Lets use AC at EVO Worlds. You know, SBO style for AH. >.>
And the alternative is probably to have GGXX as a whole take a backseat to games that actually exist for the whole season. I’m not trying to be mean or anything, but it’s a competition just to have the game in evo, and I can’t see them choosing a game that isn’t going to exist until midway through the season.
Maybe they thought it would be like brawl or VF5(360), Tekken 6, etc…, none of which are actually going to come out in the middle of this season, so there’s no debate over versions.
I think some GGXX players feel that the engine alone is good enough to make it a main game forever and that there’s no real choice in the matter.
I, OTOH, think GGXX got incredibly lucky this year that the AC situation came up late, and that the question in the future, is not going to be “AC or slash”, it’s going to be: “Why is the GGXX worth planning a long series around? is there a possibility that the players could just stop caring and bait everyone into getting some new version and ‘adapting’ mid season?”.
Why wouldn’t you want AC to come out? Sammy has had a history of releasing quality games and this seems to be no different. I vote for AC.
I don’t think that the Guilty Gear scene should be punished for getting new games more often. Considering that Evo is now a six-month season (From March 'til August), by saying that anything that comes out mid-season shouldn’t be considered for Evo World, you’ve essentially doomed any game that updates regularly, as that’s fully half of the year. Really, we should start treating evo world as what it really is: The main tournament. The majority of the scene (and I say majority because AC has 75+% of the poll) clearly doesn’t mind playing a game on two months of practice, and cutting out GGXX from Evo entirely is a nice way to alienate a decent-sized section of the fighting game scene for no good reason.
With two qualifiers already in the books, it is impossible to change games mid season. Guilty Gear at Evo will be Slash.
