I’m pretty sure A&C hosted other events in the past. That being said, has this happened at their other tournaments? Somebody must have brought it up before as well. I’ve never been to a tournament with no pay-out to 2nd/3rd before; in any game.
I’ve been going to tournaments for 8 years now. The only time I have ever paid a fee was to cover venue costs. The A&C tournament is held in a venue they are granted for free from UofT. I’m not paying someone a fee if they didn’t pay out of pocket to get the venue.
not to mention that they’re making money off the tournament entry fees as well if there are more than say…12 players.
rules have been updated as per the AC games website.
looks like they are giving store credit for prizes.
$70/$35/$15 = $120 pot = 24 players
So that is their break even number. Anything more than that and they are making monies from the pot.
So let me get this straight. The players put in real money and can only win products from the store? What if you don’t live in Toronto? Now I definitely know I’m not going.
The only time I paid entry fee is if it was a Regional for Soul Calibur seeing that the money goes to POT for nationals.
I guess if the Stores Prize is decent then it’s worth a checking so this leads to my next question: what are the prizes?
Please give us more incentive to come.

SCAM!
So player money goes into a pot…
for STORE CREDIT!
So basically A&C is forcing the winners to buy products from their stores with the money given to them by the players. Which means they will make a profit from the games sold because they don’t sell them at cost.
Therefore, 24 people are chipping in to buy a $120 gift certificate from A&C, in order to further support their straight “fuck you!” to the Sf Community.
Boycott.
/facepalm
Another fail by U of T, thankfully not by UTSC for once.
