There will be the $5 admission fee (not venue fee) and you still get a $5 coupon with admission. We wanted to do an event soon we chose April, so we can do another one in June or July. Any suggestions would be great.

You are charging what you like to call an “admission fee” of $5 to all players. Generally it is frowned upon if the “door” fee (admission, venue, or whatever you want to call it) is not used to offset the money required to rent out the room/lecture hall and/or other associated overhead costs. But you are going through the trouble of bringing all the equipment + TV’s + games so that there will also be casual stations available too (big plus) … so I can live with the fee.

You are charging a $5 (pot) fee per tournament but are not distributing the pot many BACK TO THE PLAYERS! (prizes are still TBD at the time of me writing this post). This is a very big no-no. The pot money for each game should always be distributed back to the players who place (top 3 in this case).
An option would be to use the first $60 from the pot to cover your cost of the free game (current 1st place prize) and to take the remaining money and split it among the top 3 (maybe use 50/30/20 split since 1st place is already getting a free game!).

I haven’t tracked this tournament much. The 2nd and 3rd place prize situation needs to be addressed before I even consider coming down with anyone though. The admission fee is a joke IMO but if the players aren’t being reimbursed at second and third place that’s ridiculous.

Remember when Tournaments were run by players FOR players?
Now, because of the sudden popularity of SF4, we have tournies popping up everywhere, being run by greedy corporate pigs, trying to make a buck by exploiting OUR love of the game for THEIR benefit.
You know what’s funny though? Because there are so many tournaments nowadays, we now have the luxury of picking and choosing which ones we go to.
On that note, I am boycotting this tournament.

I’m boycotting this tourney… simply put you need to reward 2nd and 3rd. (split pot would be NICE).
Somebody post this thread on there forums, and explain why what they are doing is shady as hell.
