About the "EVO Badge" to watch games on Sunday

Nothing is getting over analyzed. If it were free, then you’d have a rash of people suddenly taking up the free spots; if you charge for it hardly any random people are gonna pay the money and then not attend. The money puts a barrier of entry where you really have to be interested in the tourney to pay the extra money to watch the finals as well as raise more money for Evo which cost a lot of money to throw as an event.

To be clear,

Would this be 100$ just to watch the finals live for me and my GF? Even if not playing?

Could we watch them anywhere else if I DONT pay the 100$?

And people wanna talk about “growing the community”. Who do you think the community is going to grow towards? The players? No, because the players are already heavily vested in it. It’s those wives, girlfriends, kids, and friends of people that the scene is gonna open up to, if it’s actually gonna grow (if that’s what people genuinely want). Again I don’t think people mind the fact that you have to pay that much, at least no me, but rather the timeliness of it all.

I’ve known about Evo for years, and always assumed that you got charged to spectate, but when I finally looked into the info this year, and found out that it was free, I was a little stunned. I just hope that everyone who pays to spectate will be able actually spectate, and that they don’t overbook to a point where the fire department doesn’t shut it down, or people get turned away. From a business standpoint it wouldn’t look good, let alone on the personal level.

Streams? that’s what I did last year. 3 days of waking up, getting breakfast, coming to the office and planting myself on the futon. It was pretty magical.

Like I said, you could easily reserve the 3000 seats and the rows for those corresponding seats for tourney players, and have the rest be on a first come first serve/sign up basis. Again, me and the other fellas point is, you wanna charge cool, just make it clear from the beginning.

Well, ofc but I mean at the venue, if the flights/rooms are booked already.

Ohh I see this now - so there will still be a seperate free finals room? How will this work? 2 rooms, one free, one paid?

Yes. The paid room will be ‘live’ so to speak. The free room will be streaming the finals.

The main room is for people who have a badge.
The reasoning is that the players alone will meet the capacity of the room.
The other room will have the stream on a big screen for anyone without a badge.

I’m sure it’s going to be than that though.
There’s many things that can be done to make interactions between the rooms, there could be cameras on the spectator room with an announcer that will interact with the crowd in the main room as well.

I think it would be really cool if the spectator room could have a couple of well positioned mics that capture the sound of the crowd and project it to the speakers at the main room. That way you could have the announcer of the main room call for the other crowd, and have everyone in the main room hear them. I personally would get really really hype. I know it can be done through the stream, but well positioned mics sound so much better, and enhance the experience that much.

Lol. There’s is no way that reserving spec should have been $50. I can’t even believe some people here were so willing to be reamed via their wallets and were defending it . Historically it’s always been free, $10 spec passes is understandable, hell even $20 I couldn’t complain, but $50 just to spec??? C’mon no, way get real.

I for one am glad the price has been lowered. See y’all there!

I’m coming all the way from NZ to the US for a heap of reasons. That Evo happened to be on whilst I was there… awesome. When I checked and saw spectating was free… amazing. How could I not detour to Las Vegas? Booking three days accom, internal US flights and then find out I’d have to either fork out $50.00 US to gaurantee I could spectate and be a part of Evo Moment 1337 or take a risk see how many people turn up…

Well guess you can see from my banner what I chose. No brainer for me.

When you say “Guaranteed seating in the tournament hall on Sunday for the tournament finals” do you mean chair seating or floor seating?

Everyone should get a chair. We’ll be checking badges at the door to make sure no one sneaks in without a badge.

This is awesome
