About EVO representation

…um…I don’t see what any of that has to do with the topic.

Yeah, it was. The problem is that a game has to get big numbers regularly and BBCP could not.

The other problem is that BBCP 2.0 happened and a lot of Japanese players didn’t like the balance changes so they dropped it.

Because that’s like saying Basketball sucks because Tae Bo came out.
Just because it’s an old game doesn’t mean it doesn’t change.

Real sports evolve every day, week and month because they have players and coaches that think about the game constantly and try to edge out the opposition.
Same goes for old games like Smash.
The game is not stagnant as long as it has a competitive community trying to edge each other out and improve themselves.

I mean you even bring the worst example comparing Smash to Anime Fighter ABC.
Here you got a 15 year old game that is still fucking growing, which has both the admiration and the envy of classic fighting game scenes like 3S and ST, who wish they still had such a thing going for them,
and then you compare it to an anime fighter that isn’t Guilty Gear.
Anime fighters cannibalize themselves just as Street Fighter, Tekken and Mortal Kombat do.
Nobody gives a fuck which one is the best, everyone is playing the latest version because that’s where the competition is.

Smash is like the one exception to the rule. One game among many that gets supported by fans for over a decade instead of getting abandoned, because it’s the best in the series.

I tell you we would have that much better Street Fighter games nowadays if our community was as loyal to good game design as the Smash community is.

Smash is the sf2 of a whole gen of kids. They donated a lot of money to cancer research then showed up in droves to the tournament. So now they get seats on finals day to watch all the games they dont really give a fuck about.

Smash loyal to good game design? Lol. There’s 4 games in the series. The first is full of ToDs, the second is solid, the third has tripping and the fourth has dudes crying over rules. We have more versions of SF2 with actual nuance to them than they have different versions of their game. I’m not taking away from all the skill required to play high level melee, but nigga be real with yourself.

More like talking about melee players.
The people I know who play that game don’t give a shit about the other games in the series because they feature dumb mechanics.

As a Blazblue player, I can safely say I’ve been trying to push for local people who play it to stick with it too. It’s just a matter of how with airdashers, people tend to have the feeling that they’ll just be one person trying to do things, so you have a lot of people who just go to the newest airdasher game out of worry of not having anybody to play with. I do think it’s true that release dates on things sometimes don’t help, but it’s just how people are.

It’s sort of different than comparing it to SF, because Street Fighter has such a history with it that if any city has a fighting game scene in general, chances are it’s going to mostly have an SF one, or a Melee one that’s around the same size. The result is that sometimes you get people feeling like they’re pigeonholed into having to go from one game to another, even if they’re different series’.

Like someone stated earlier it’s about consistency and demand. blazblue had a good showing at Evo in 2014, but in 2015 it’s numbers at Tournaments were pretty poor, where as other fighters still had consistently much higher numbers in terms of views and entrants. the BB community didn’t support the scene enough to warrant another spot at Evo, plain and simple. Can’t just put a game on the main stage just to be nice o fair or whateves. Gotta present the games that’ll bring in the most traffic. And the two Smash games have shown that they’ll bring in much more viewers and entrants than Blazblue. If people want BB at Evo, when it comes to tournaments, people need to show up or shut up.

You ever tried to play BB online? That shit is dead. You can play like the top 15 people on the leaderboard and nobody else. I highly doubt the offline scene fares much better. In Japan maybe but not elsewhere.

I mean seriously more people play SkullGirls than BB. And BB is 3 games into it’s continuation while SG is a majority crowd funded indie game as it currently stands. WATCHING is a different thing though. I know a lot of people who like to watch BB but fucking hate playing it. I hate doing either. The cringeworthy amount of Engrish fucking infuriates me. Excuse me, “Rebel” 1? Are you trying to say “Level” you stupid bitch? If you’re gonna do English at least get somebody who speaks it natively or dont do it at all. I’d much rather listen to the original moonspeak.

smash has a legit dedicated scene willing to travel, which is more than blazblue and (it hurts me to say it) MvC2 does

Stop spreading bullshit, is because BBCP2 doesn’t have an american port yet

Yup.

Everything I know from the people that I’ve known for 18 years now is that Evo is all about the community and the players first.
