About a new patch to SF3

posted in capcom unity i put it here to ask your support and opinion …

I know that this matter has been dicussed but there are points i want to say…so plz listen to me.

I’m a guilty gear player and though that GGXX AC is more thar 6 years old and the announcement of the new sequel (Xrd) … ASW release R+ patch which revived the love for the game…my friend in japan told me that this ver game is played so much… i wouldn’t be surprised if it were from the most 10 games played in japanese arcades right now…now Street fighter title is so more famous than Guilty gear …So it would be big impact if there were new plans for the game…

If you don’t think it will be a good idea for arcade then at least make it in the console ver…

Other points :

1- Unlike 2 and 4 the game has a Unique system which has no equivalent in any other fighting game …it would be waste IMHO not doing some tweaks that might lengthen the game life span…not all poeple likes 4…and even some (or even a lot) 4 fans who hasn’t purchased O.E would try and buy the game…

2- Regarding the game life span …please note that than other patching the game will be a factor to players to returning the game…the more balanced ver means more characters would be played and chosen…and even where there saying that the game is balanced at casual level …(that what they say…not my opinion) also lot casual players are judging that the game isn’t balanced they are saying that because they see top players only playing high tiers …they would change there opinion with the new ver…please think about this point…

3- The patch will be of course optional…the guys who want to play the old ver they can still play it if they want even if the guys who said before releasing EO that they wouldn’t buy the game if it were patched. are already bought the game…so you wouldn’t lose these people anyway…

4- If you think that SF2 HD remix wasn’t succesful title (and fear that the same would happen the to 3) i believe that there were 2 reasons for that :
A- The biggest reason that i’m sure about is the graphic change…not the game it self…you don’t have to change the graphic in SF3 case…it still good even now in 2013…
B- All 2 characters are already in 4 with nearly the same and improved (new moves…combos) with more system options… but in 3rd strike the roster is at some point diffrent with diffrent system and if you see that there characters might play the same you can adjust them by a way that make them has a diffrent style if you want .

5- At least why don’t you doing a vote of the patch and see the result ?? or would you want from us to do a petition ?? we are ready for that… you have nothing to lose…

i’m an african fan for the game (so i’m sorry for my bad english )…what would be the opinion of japanese and american and whole world fans ??

PLZ think about it…

(If you would do the patch …please…don’t just nerf the top tier…nerf what makes them overpowered then give him new tools…like make there other supers more usefull in somematch ups or any thing else…somthing like the changes of Gulty R+ or KOF 13 from the first arcade ver to climax…)

this has been discussed to death so I’ll just say a few quick things and leave it at that

the balance is good enough, and you risk destroying the game by tinkering with the characters. especially since it would be modern day Capcom doing it. balance is also only one consideration in the overall picture, and 3s is a pretty sick game in that overall picture.

the playerbase wouldn’t change. there’s not a huge chunk of people just waiting for Chun and Yun to be worse so they can start playing it again. anyone who loves the game is playing it already.

it’s better for players of this game to think about how they can build local communities than to worry about changing something that at this point is 14 years old and still plays well at every level.

If you were to patch the game, you’d effectively split what little of the community is left. When the general consensus of 3S players agree that the game shouldn’t be changed, to suggest otherwise is a bit short of blasphemous to their ears.

The patch that doesn’t change the balance for the game takes this long. We are still waiting for a patch.

Any more patches will cost a lot of time and what is most important for these companies, money.

Making the game to bring in SF2 and SF4 players means making the game more like those 2 games.

Rather than, them wanting to play SF3 because its SF3. All games don’t have to be the same. SF4 took things from SF2 and SF3 and its still its own game. It is all over the place though. This probably isn’t the place to discuss that, my mistake.

While we do appreciate your enthusiasm, 3S isn’t a game that would stand up well against N.Capcom’s balancing and balance-testing. Along with everything that has been said already, I’ll say something that has been left out: if you patch the game now, you’re not providing 3S. You’re providing a revision. A +R, like GGXXAC. This carries with it a requirement to somehow update the arcade units as well. Capcom doesn’t have the time or money to attempt something like this, which falls back into everything mentioned above.

Why are we talking about an update patch to the game when the patch to fix OE hasn’t even come out yet?

The OP has been spamming balance patch posts in other sub-forums too.

I’ve thought about this and the only way 3S would get rebalanced and probably not split the community is if Capcom goes ahead and releases an updated arcade version. Which would probably never happen because they would have to start over from scratch because of the CPS3 hardware.

Won’t happen, I doubt Iron Galaxys patch will ever make it to our hands, we’ve waited so long for the very very minor tweaks, theirs even been a post from the company on here asking what the fans wanted fixed, that was a while ago though, and the patch is presumably in limbo until further notice. The best thing you could do is like someone above said, build the community up near you, get people excited for 3S.

Shitty thread.

Only faulty shitty games need patches. This is 3S.

I see where OPs coming from, as GG is the only fighting game I enjoy besides 3S…
GGAC is far from a shitty game, and the updated AC+R didn’t divide the community, the Japanese AC players have been playing the updated +R for the past year or so in Mikado/A-CHO tourneys and such…it’s basically the same game with updated moves and balance tweaks. It’s kind of like if that piece of crap 3rd strike 4th down or whatever it was called that failed game that guy made with all the ridiculous new shit in it…if it were a legit and actually a good updated patch, then maybe everyone would start playing that version but…not needed for good ol 3S, I’m fine w it staying as is

Community already split.

This would just bring some ggpo players onto the xbox as well and help some xbox players make it to the arcades eventually.

I’m all for it. Just do it already.

3s is broke yes, but I’m fine with the way it is personally.

close thread pls

I saw David Lang from Iron Galaxy at CEO Never Sleeps (smaller scale CEO tournament here in Orlando) a few weeks ago and asked him when the 3SOE patch was supposed to come out. He said they sent it in to Capcom months ago and Capcom still hasn’t tested it. He sounded disappointed and said it is “taking fucking forever” which we both agreed and laughed at. He was actually a really cool guy and I made small talk with him and another Iron Galaxy employee (don’t know his name). Take that for what you will, this patch may come out much after Ultra Street Fighter 4 is released

Shut up foo! And give me some choncho.

Yeah i’ve sent Dave a few friendly emails, he seems like a cool guy, pity Capcom are absolute divs. I doubt Combofiend is really doing anything to push it either because he hates 3s :’(

I recall Combofiend being an enthousiastic Orocombofiend. Changed his mind?

Can’t remember who told me that, to be fair they might have been full of BS

I’m pretty sure he doesn’t like 3rd. cvs2 players have a reputation of not liking 3rd. Bas, Ricky and buktooth to mention a few.

Having said that, it’s nice not having to defend 3rd to players nowadays. Even though this is just because 3rd isn’t a game in the mainstream eye.

Just for fun, here’s the key things people dislike about 3rd and how you can explain it.

  1. parrying

People dislike that off of 1 parry the momentum can change so durastically. people think parrys also have minimal risk to it which is a dumb myth. parries definitely can carry risk, with high and low mix up, especially if the opponent can punish the wrong read correctly. only a throw beating parry attempts is also false. Delayed attacks can beat parry attempts depending on how the parry is used. Multiple hits can also punish people trying to parry.

  1. anti air

People dislike that anti air is not guaranteed. This also goes back to parrys. they hate their shoryu gets parried and the eat a fat punish. they haven’t realized the better options for anti air like walking/dashing under, jumping back (w/parry or w/attack). Basically there are a multitude of answers to anti air and anti air shoryu or ground normal is not the only one.

I guess the only other things people commonly dislike about 3rd is chun and her super, yun because genei, and mak because of w fukiage?

It’s wise not to try to defend these 3 points because they actually are debatable. your answer to these if you absolutely have to comment on them should be 1) “yes chun li is very strong. if you want to fight her and have a good chance you may want to use the upper half of the cast” 2) “genei jin is strong. However it requires a lot of skill to make yun a strong consistent character and he is also very frail in terms of HP” 3) “yes w fukiage is super strong but fortunately there aren’t many players who can do it with a super high consistency.”

not that Kurodas opinion is always correct but he feels that “most match ups in this game are 5-5”. even non 3s players respect Kuroda so that’s a statement you can throw in.

Either way, it’s not in your best interest to argue and explain 3rd. you shouldn’t have to in person either these days but if you ever need to in person, those are some things to say. if you have the knowledge to find flaws or questionable aspects of their game that’s also a tool
