About 2 buy my first hori stick

I was on play asia the other day looking to buy myself my first arcade stick (getting fed up of the black ps2 pad)for my PS2 fighting game collection(Tekken 5,CvS2,SF3:Third Strike,Arcana Heart,NGBC,KOF MIRA etc) but right now I’m torn. The stick I want is the HORI Fighting Stick 2 since its the cheapest I read the reviews and some people say its a good stick and that the negative reviews it gets are false.Should I buy it? or look else where for a inexspensive HORI Stick?

P.S do the japanese ps2 controllers play-asia sell work with a american ps2 system?

You should get a better stick. When it comes to sticks you usually get what you pay for. HRAP sticks or customs are usually the way to go.

Also, yes, controllers are region-free.

Fighting Stick 2 is sub par, IMO.

Save up some extra money and get a quality stick.

agree i had a hori fighting stick 3 and it just doesnt compare to my new custom. Save a bit spend a bit more cash and get urself a hrap 2sa or if u play on a ps3 hrap 3

Don’t settle for less. Save up a little more cash and get your hands on a better stick.

I’d recommend the Hori Real Arcade Pro 2. It’s a great stick and you can swap out parts pretty easily with a tiny bit of know-how. Or if you’re feeling really froggy, get a custom. There’s people on these forums that do great work.

What about a Mayflash or Saulabi?

I just did a search for that stick on Play-Asia and its out of stock :shake: what 2 do now?

Learn from my mistake. I own one of those and I do not recommend it to anyone.

Ebay or post in the Trading Forum here on SRK. Sure someone has one that they may be willing to let go.

Just wondering, is the joystick/buittons used is the Hori Fighting Stick 2 the same as the parts used in a Hori Command Stick?

the fightstick is well, if u want something cheap, it’s worth it
(it’s a 80$ stick, but sold at 30-50$)

The Mayflash stick is good for modding, but it’s layout on PS3 is kinda messed up.

Stock, it’s complete garbage.

The stick on the Command Stick is the same as the one in the Namco/soul calibur/tekken4. The stick on the HFS2 feels similar, but it’s octagonal (though it really is designed very differently if you look at it from the inside.

IIRC the Command stick has soldered buttons, while most HFS2s use rubber contacts. While the soldered buttons feel a lot better, both are pretty unreliable.

Oh interesting, thanks for the info.

Then in my opinion the stock Hori joystick is not THAT bad. Though of course depending on your taste, authentic Sanwa/Seimitsu/Happ joysticks most likely will feel better. The stock joystick is definitely better than the stock buttons.

I’ve never used rubber contact buttons but on my Hori Command Stick the buttons are indeed soldered. The buttons are definitely not the best quality. They’re actually pretty bad compared to authentic Jap/American buttons. You just won’t get the same response/accuracy from stock Hori buttons…

Like other people have suggested, save your money and buy a good joystick. Minimum of at least a HRAP.

The step above that would be a custom joystick but that’s gonna cost you more obviously.
