Hey guys, I’m relatively new to the Abel forums. I just picked this character up a few days ago because I felt he suited my style better over Fei Long. I’m already crushing opponents with his constant use of great option selects that I looked over on this thread.
I’ve noticed that the meaty crouching light punch/light kick OS Dash is one of the more difficult ones to use so I didn’t really use it and just opted for the sweep OS instead.
Then I found out that a number of characters can actually block (Pesky Chun and Rose) after backdashing. I now do the dash OS using a meaty crouching medium instead and I’ve found it much more effective. I actually input three forward motions as soon as I hit the Cr.M punch and I found that the dash comes out close to 90% of the time if they backdash, and never if it lands.
If anyone wants me to upload a video demonstrating the timing I can.
The notation: Meaty Cr.Med punch (OS Dash)-> TT
If you do late crouch tech medium punch then the OS you’ll catch alot of jumping attacks to because of the auto correct dash and landing on the other side of your opponent. I’d say it’s good for those characters that the cr.Hp won’t hit because of their jump arch.
Yeah, Chun has a quick as hell backdash. Though, I’d suggest using either c.lp OS breathless or c.lp OS dash TT.
c.lp OS breathless (:lp::qcf::qcf::3k:) is so stupid good against backdashes. And if they decide to neutral jump, you have enough time to just react and hold the kkk.
c.lp OS dash TT (:lp::f::f::qcb:) seems to be what you’re needing to do, though. If they backdash, you dash up and TT. If they neutral jump, your dash under and FS.
The OS breathless is disappointing to me a lot of times because who cares about jab-short. If there’s a way to make it more damaging without upping the execution difficulty that’d be excellent.
In other news, some new Sakura OS. I’ll fill in the details later.
IMO that’s better off of stepkick. Stepkick, lowjab~OS throw, OS EX Skyfall. It’ll lose to jabs and flamekick, don’t know if it hits backdash. Even if he blocks or gets hit what is your payoff? Low jab?
For wakeup I posted a anti fei OS earlier in this thread.
Hunter, I know I’m not as good as an Abel player as you, but an ex FS IS better. Yes you are left with an ambigious mixup with close standing FP, but nothing is more ambigious than a knockdown. With a cl.s.fp into Marseilles roll they are left with the question “is he going to mk roll and get on the other side of me or a lk and stay on the same side?” Both are dangerous but one is significantly more. When you get a knockdown they are left with the question “is he going to mk roll or lk roll, is he going to cross me up with a jumping mk, is he going to tick throw, is he going to read my jump?”. Every option in the game is available on a knock-down, but only two options with the cl.s.fp. It’s a lot like when people said Gief’s ex hand not knocking down is a mixup and a good thing, but nothing or more of a mixup than a knockdown.
I was practicing some OS’s the other day when I inadvertently stumbled upon this. I do the standard step kick OS with an extra :f: to get the dash to come out in the event that the cr. st/jab makes contact via FA or block, if they block and neutral jump in anticipation of the tick TT the auto correct FS should come out, don’t quote me on that though I haven’t been able to test it live, record will not auto correct.
The st.mk has to be done immediately after the throw. The neutral jump is the same requiring you to hold up in the animation of the st.mk, to make sure you jump as early as possible. The nj.hk has to be done as low to the ground as you can make it (bit of practice and i was hitting it with good frequency).
The sweep is the tricky bit you need to delay it enough whilst holding down back to cover the reversal but to be honest its very quick anyway between button presses. As long as the safe jump timing is right in the first place its hard to mess up the sweep timing.
Note: They cannot DP between the nj.hk and sweep its a block string (based on me mashing like shit for a good 30 mins and getting nothing).
Another 3f Safe jump.
Cr hp, lk roll, sweep, hk roll, nj lk
Not managed to get a step kick to combo AND be safe yet seems very tight, but it does block kens hp upper!. Hardly something to use a lot but nice to have in the ol noggin.
Thanks. I was thinking of switching to Ken but his knockdown timing is hard to get used to. For some reason fierce srk sets up different timings depending on how it hits, drives me insane
