Abel Moveset and Attributes

I got an option select for you guys to catch backdashers.

fwd mk -> cr.lk (cr.lk~cr.rh), cr.lk, cr.lk

Now, if they dont backdash the string will just be cr.lk’s (which you can use to tick into TT or w/e). If they do backdash, a sweep will come out and punish their dash.

I’ve found that it works on everyone except chun li, (i haven’t tested it against console characters though).

Finally, we have something to stop backdashing without having to predict it

I’ve been using that one to great success… the c.lk OS dash TT is a nice one too, I think busta explained it. if they back dash, your dash will come out and the TT will punish the back dash. Otherwise you just get a c.lk tick into TT like normal

^ TT wont punish the back dash actually. they have enough time to do something im pretty sure.

should have added, the lk has to be meaty otherwise ya they will get away… off a f+mk that one won’t work. and it doesn’t work against everyone… fuerte, rose, gen, vega, chun will get away every time

it will work if the mk hit, so its perfect if it hit a crouching opponent. They can escape that off a blocked mk, but it has to be frame perfect and they have to be holding db before it ends…

I play a very good Blanka who loves throw ultra and if he does it perfect I really do think that there is nothing you can do

So how exactly do I do this/ replicate it in training mode so I’m sure that I’m doing it right

fwd mk -> cr.lk ~cr.rh (as if i was plinking?) cr.lk cr.lk

cr.lk then cr.lk cr.rh at the same time, but you have to do it right after the first cr.lk so that if they don’t backdash it comes out as a chained cr.lk.

Can’t seem to find Abel’s option selects…

Does he have anything besides teching throws? (DB, jab+short)

the posts before you are talking about Abel’s best one
I abuse the c.lk, sweep OS. I will OS sweep off a jump in as well in the matchups you can get away with that kind of thing in…

Option Select: c.lk, c.lk+hk, then c.lk, c.lk…how exactly does this work?

is this the sweep OS Sakeido is talking about?

^
Go to training mode.
Throw the opponent to the ground.
Run up, crouch and mash out lk, lk+hk, lk, lk,

All that will come out is four crouching lk .

Now record the opponent backdashing.

Throw the opponent to the ground [so that he will backdash on wake up]
Run up, crouch and mash out lk, lk+hk, lk, lk,

When the first lk whiffs out comes the hk.

It does this because lk, lk is a combo.
So when the first part of the combo whiffs the system stops the second lk coming out leaving you with the hk.

i think instead of “combo”, should be more detailed using “chains” or “links”…
since if im not mistaken, only chainable moves can be used to set up the OS… im not so sure though because i was told by someone last week but i didnt have the time to actually practice/test it…

but yeah, imo its about time ppl start to discuss OS in a more technical way… we need to catch up with other chars applying OS too (like ryu, boxer to name a few…)

oh one more thing, how reliable is recording the dummy to backdash compared to recording the dummy to do the OS? I was wondering because if you just let the recording play and then throw the dummy, the timing of the backdash might not be correct to achieve the OS effect?

I really wish i have the time to test this but right now my studies are calling me more than ever with assignments and shit. :frowning:

^ yeah it’s better to record the dummy doing the throw, walk up, crouching lk, lk+hk, lk and then do the back dashing yourself.

IMO you can practice that option select without needing to do any dummy recording. Sit within lk range and try the option select… if you do it right, your lk will land, your hk input will be ignored because of hitstun, and then your next lk will come out as a chained combo.

Then back up out of lk range and use the exact same speed and sequence of button presses. Your lk will whiff, then the sweep will come out because there is no hitstun, and your chained lks won’t come out.

You don’t hit lk+hk together, you stagger them slightly. Its a fraction slower than a plink.
So its lk, (hk~lk), lk, lk

thanks for clearing that up.

oh and I also just learned from a more experienced player last week that the system in sf4, you can cancel into a special from a whiffed air attack. i cant figure out the use for abel yet, but for ryu it can be pretty good OS…

HAV and I had a brief talk about this a little while ago somewhere on these forums… You can jump in at Sagat on his wake up with j.hp ~ lk.roll – if the hp hits, he goes into block stun, pressure as normal. If he back dashes, you’ll roll with him… you could probably try different strengths to try cross him up or whatever… the uses aren’t completely practical though, and I haven’t actually used this in a match… may or may not be useful

I’ve been trying c.hk (block) xx lk wheel kick as a zoning tool, and it’s working pretty well atm, has anyone else tried this?

cr.hk is slow, lk wheel kick is unsafe on block at some spacings, and you can be DP’d in between the cr.hk and wheel kick.
