I figured out a (semi) useful option select on opponent wakeup. I say semi useful, because it involves close standing jabs, which whiff on most crouchers if Abels close standing short was chainable, this thing would actually be WAY useful. It goes something like this…
cr.lk xx f+lp+mk xx f+lp
On block you get cr.lk xx st.lp xx st.lp – you can (read: must) tack on a st.lk here… the reason for this is so you cancel out of the second hit of st.lp, which is a huge pain in the ass. From this, you can mix up into f+mk, lk wheel kick, sweep, you know… normal shenanigans
On backdash, you get whiff cr.lk, f+mk xx dash. Normal shenanigans apply
This is really easy to hit confirm, and can be useful when trying to put on the pressure. No one likes to be up close to Abel (except maybe Gief) so naturally they should be looking to jump or back-dash out… This finally gives Abel a decent way to get in on back dashers without having to guess so much… Tested this on Chun (f+mk connects, no time to block) so I can see this becoming useful, at least in a limited sense
Any of the senior Abels care to share their comments on this ?
My initial thoughts are that it’d be quite limited in use, but could be useful on the taller guys, as crouch blocking essentially gets people out of jail for free… if close st.lk was chainable, I could see it being a REALLY good option select… SSF4 buff please ?
If you land l.lk you can combo st.hp, if its blocked you can go for a tick TT attempt or w/e. Really good jump move in some matchups (specially fuerte)
Why can I not evade Blanka’s ambiguous ultra after a forward throw with EX roll? I get the reversal message, I lose an EX stock, but I get hit. It’s happened a LOT. I know sometimes I may get EX wheel kick because of the change of sides, but surely at least ONE time EX roll would come out.
From my experience, if the blanka is good enough to time that ultra, you can never ex roll out… so i’ll try to not get thrown when i dont have enough health to eat the chip damage.
I think the problem is the game prioritizes wheel kicks over ex rolls, and that ambiguous ultra sometimes seems to almost hit on both sides, so it’s very difficult to get a roll. Sometimes I’d pump the EX roll like mad, I see reversal and I lose a stock, so that means I got a wheel kick instead since EX roll is 100% hit invul throughout its duration.
The trick to getting the EX Roll is to input the qcf before they even cross you up. You can input the qcf hella early and then do KK later. I abuse this with Seth so that if you ever cross me up/ambiguous crossup on my wakeup, I teleport away.
thanks for the tip, i’ll try to ask a local blanka player to do the throw meaty ultra thing(cant use training mode because no matter how hard I try, its never as meaty as i wanted it to be)
