not a very good outing

^ already posted those in the page before this.

oh really :wow: I didnt know that heehee
what does ex beat then over fierce?

man the ryu zoned him good then at the end of the second round he decided to play all or nothing.

that

focus back dash-> ultra attempt was cool

did they qualify ?

For anybody that ever wonders what the hell I’m talking about when I mention baiting DPs as the key to Abel’s rushdown… which allows him to do more…

That’s exactly what I mean.

so wait… you want me to blow 2 ex bars baiting a ryu NORMAL srk? and if they do the fierce SRK they will be out of range to counter (other than if I use ultra)

i think ill just eat the fierce srk

can someone help me out with vega?

this guy is on my friend list and i cant beat him for the life of me.

Stop playing.

the hell is wrong with you?

Man that’s some robotic, hypnotic, futuristic-George Jetson type shit. Man Shiro reads opponents really well. I wonder how Abel would be in Daigo’s hands…

EX has hit invulnerability and normal TT’s have throw invulnerability – it’s been covered before

What ex kara stuff are u talkin about Busta?

This I believe.

Oh cool. Once they start to catch on, what other ways of baiting their DP becomes viable?

Once they start to catch on, you won’t have to bait their DPs. The whole idea behind baiting the DP is that you punish that shit hard, so they won’t DP anymore. Once you’ve got them afraid to mash reversals (if that’s possible in SF4), then you can work Abel’s mix-ups without them DP’ing out.

Now you still have to account for jump-outs and dash backs, but the whole idea is that your offense needs to cover them all, so you can work freely.

Most (all? except Justin) Abel’s I play against just try to work what seems to be Abel’s normal offense. The reality is that Abel’s “normal” offense (step kick-> throw, jabs, whatever) doesn’t work unless you discourage reveral/dashback/jumpout first. Otherwise, those three things own him free.

So you work to get in, discourage those three things, then you can apply pressure more freely.

EDIT- Using that match as an example, as soon as Shiro punished Fuudo’s DP, Shiro just got in his shit for the kill. Fuudo had a bunch of life left, but he didn’t protect any of it after he got scared. In the 10 seconds that remained in that round, there were 5 spots where Fuudo could have done a reversal, dash back, or jump out.
[]Waking up when Shiro did meaty focus
[
]Waking up when Shiro did meaty Step Kick
[]Directly after the Step Kick when Shiro did TT
[
]Waking up when Shiro did Roll-> low jab

After the jabs when Shiro ticked into TT.
I don’t know about you, but every one of those scenarios are ones that I’ve been DP’d/mash jab/jumped out/dashed back on.

Shiro mindfucked Fuudo at that point, and essentially took away those options for the next ten seconds. He then used that time to kill him.

Now, as that match demonstrates, the mindfuck doesn’t last that long. The reality is that Fuudo doesn’t have a whole lot to fear as Ryu against Abel, if he can keep his composure. That’s why it’s our job, as Abel players, to make the opponent lose their composure, and second-guess their options.

EDIT 2- I’ve mentioned this kinda shit before. I actually made a post earlier today:

And in a post from a few weeks ago, with a Marvel analogy, that (if you understand Marvel at all) REALLY hits the nail on the head:
http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=6597056&postcount=1371

i guess it is just my lowly g2 ranking but i do NOT run into a ton of shotokans that reversal my 3rd hit.
its usually the lesser used classes like Vega/Gen and gief who use reversal on 3rd finish of rekka

At least stop posting?

HAV!!! you won my internet like in the 2nd round i honestly see that shiro did mind fuck him a bit and i do get what ur saying cause i too am a victim off random dp when your trying to apply pressure on a shoto but i do get what your saying & the fact how you broke it down like that, that’s what’s up & kraiden i’m not going to say nothing or trying to say nothing negative all i’m trying to say is keep on practicing and playing as much as you can and you’ll get it and stop discouraging yourself dude

Oh I see now, it’s all about making them lose their cool.

Thanks, HAV. Hopefully this’ll improve my game and success with Abel.

c/s what HAV said regardin putting that fear inside of your opponent so they’d stop doing what they’d usually do. ive never baited a srk like shiro did in the vid though, i either empty jump in early and block or empty crossup block. though against good players, they’ll just throw me, but yeah, mind games. thats why sometimes i dont play 100% in my first round, to see what kinda of players im playing…
