abel player starts at 06:28

dunno who it is, but very solid abel

enjoy ^^

LOL@at the last match ending edit. That was sick.

That dude in the violentJ vid is good but he’s also clueless in some aspects. Why doesn’t he ever punish Blanka just sitting there electricity’ing?

Weird, because he has the blocked ball dash into fwd+mk combo down pretty good.

inconsistant was the word that ran through my head.

Inconsistent in his knowledge of some matchups I guess.

inconsistent, yeah, but it has some examples of good punishes such as the dash fwd after ball. just something interesting to watch. Abel videos are always far and few in between

OK i am a noob and not a good player… but like i said i am working hard to get better.

I took this with my digital camera today

so many things to say … so little time?

i seem to base most of my game off guessing what other people are going to do and that leaves me open to tons. like at the end of the bison video I knew if I walked forward he would eventually teleport behind me . so i tried the jump back and medium kick… right guess but it wiffs.
I also need to get better at knowing what you can tornado throw and what you can reka reversal.

oh and the day i learn that busta bus combo where you cancel your reka into a popup + ultra i will dance naked in the streets of brooklyn.

You didn’t look too bad at all kraiden3. I’ve seen a lot worse. I’m actually surprised you labeled the videos as ~1000 bp matches, because I’d say everyone in the vid was more around ~2000 bp level, especially the dictator. I’ve played a lot worse at the ~2000 bp level.

I’m glad you beat the cammy. I really dislike those 30 sec round bp farmers.

It still baffles me people pull this kind of cowardly shit. They should just lump these queers together and let them duke it out they should make it so that ranked matches are a minimum of 99 seconds anything below that are just player matches.

i watched the vids, you try to sweep to much. try to cut back on the sweeping or at least cancel it afterwards with a roll or wheel kick or somethin.

ok so sweep less? I had no clue you could cencel low sweep with a wheel kick or roll… i gotta try
F+med kick is what i would LIKE to do but im always on the defensive and scared to trade.

i want to get like busta and be able to dash forward then do medium kick and then cancel it with a dash forward… but im a long wasys from there.

nah im a 1000 bp player. I lose and win and stay around that level if I keep playing as Abel.
i need lots of work on my midrange game and how to punish. my way of punishing is to Cfp then change of direction.

Pop up Falling sky needs lots of work.

i think i should just quit it and start to do pop up into terry kick.

I will do more fights, and work on not jumping and not sweeping and post more.
but the rest of the vids will be the low quality since only thing i have is a 7 year old digital camera.

kraiden3

Definitely don’t do this. Just practice in training mode until you get it down. You can’t do hk wheel kick on a lot of characters, so it does less damage, it always does less stun, and you don’t get a good wakeup situation. This would be a bad habit you’d have to correct later on.

well you can always add &fmt=18 at the end of the youtube link and it will automatically make it in hq. also dont think of bp as a skill level, bp means nothing really. how i see it, its just a point system nothing more nothing less.

While we got you here Busta, any plans on releasing vids of you playing online? I’m interested to see if you change up how you play at all due to lag. Also, do you feel any difference in the feel of Abel on the console version?

I have been playing in the arcades in Japan for the past 3 weeks and just got back and started playing on the ps3 using my new hrap3 stick and found the timing for cr.fp -> ultra to be a little more strict. It’s still not too hard, but I found myself actually doing it early and having my ultra go underneath them before they hit the ground when it almost never happened to me in the arcade. Anyways, just curious on your thoughts.

edit: I should mention I play on a crt television, so nothing to do with tv lag. Although I was playing on high-def cabinets in Japan, so maybe that had something to do with it… Still interested to hear your thoughts on if the console version feels different at all.

how do i learn to beat throws and tec?
diago said thats the key to sf4 is throwing war and as a grappler i should know how to work the inside game

i play at the arcades and console and i dont really have that problem, maybe because when i cr.hp into ultra, i didnt do it by muscle memory but by paying attention to the character getting launched and time my ultra based on that. i play on both hidef and crt cabs and crt tv on console. regarding lag, i only play minimum 4 bars so i never really have to deal with lag (except when im playing friends who live far away and only 1-3 bars, but those games i dont take seriously that much)

tl;dr do a neutral jump.

There are a few ways to beat throws. In SF4 (do not try this in HDR), neutral jump is one of the best way to punish an expected throw, because it’s easy to do (just hold up) and it leads to good damage. You can do a neutral jump which makes their grab whiff, and then punish them on the way down with jumping hk ->cr.mp or cr.fp xx Change of Direction. You can also beat throws with Tornado Throw because Abel is throw invincible during the move, but if you’re already being thrown when you try to do TT, it won’t come out.

A tip: While it is good to have the block -> punish mentality versus ken scrubs, you need to learn blockstrings. For Abel, your best blockstring is cr.lk xx cr.lpx3 -> s.lk. The advantage of this blockstring is that first of all it’s a combo that starts off a fast low move. Second of all, this actually forms a blockstun combo (except for the s.lk I think). This means that you cannot be shoryukened during this. They have to sit there and block it. It’s a win-neutral situation: Either you reset the situation or you hit them with the blockstring and get free damage. There’s more to it, especially when you incorporate tick throws, but I’d suggest just getting the cr.lk xx cr.lp x3 -> s.lk combo down first. You can also do cr.lk xx cr.lp x3 -> twds mk xx Forward Dash into ANOTHER blockstring, which is a great way to keep up the pressure.

Your execution is pretty decent. I would suggest working on cr.fp -> ultra. This is huge for Abel because it’s basically half their life there. Don’t want to give you too much advice, so I’ll leave it there.

Again, I come here for advice. Anyway, my choices with Abel are pretty limited me thinks. I can’t do the fwd.mk --> hp link yet, and I have trouble doing the rekka cancel, so there’s only so much I can do ;-;
