Abel Match Videos

Demon flip for free all day.
How are you supposed to defend against that since abel has no True AA?

Not to be disrespectful to anyone but I didn’t think that Ryder Damdai match was that good a showing.
In that particular match abel was so over reliant on the step kick - fp link it was near comical.
Even a simple whiffed dp was punished by a step kick - fp.
Abel has so many great links into his bnb combos to see one goose stepping around like that was pretty painful!
And he never capitalised on any of his knock downs [but that’s understandable given the opponent/tourny].
If Abel didn’t have his ridiculously brilliant ultra or if he played that way using any other char [bar sagat] then that game would have been over a long time ago.

Again not trying to be offensive to that one player it’s just Abel has a big bag of tools and it’s pretty frustrating to watch players always trying to land a 7/10 difficulty step kick link ALL THE TIME.

In regards to the Cammy match up a lot of what she does is similar to Rufus: it’s just obfuscation.
Not a lot of it is very effective it is just a bit of a whirlwind when it comes at you that, if you don’t play a cammy regularly, it’s very confusing.

But just block. SF4 having no guard crush you can block cammy all day and not worry about it.
Keep in mind Cammy can NOT cross Abel up with a dive kick and to block it you hold down back [which also guards against her somersault throws which you can also shortcut air grab her out of from crouch].
Then all your worrying about is teching her throws which, well teching online on reaction is basically bullshit, but it’s immeasurably easier live.

Err this might seem a bit obvious but if you don’t have a cammy to play vs then take it to training mode note down what messes you up, record it and start working out a way to get out of it. As stupid as it sounds I progress [my admittedly shitty always high half asleep text messaging abel] more in training mode then I do with online play. Just get real nerdy with it but make sure no one is watching you as it’s pretty hard to explain to other people what exactly your doing.

That post was longer then I intended.

I regards to the comment about the vid against damdai, I believe that you have a legitimate point. But I don’t think that the forward kick -> s.HP xx (insert finish) was overused in the punishment scenarios. Ya, its a one frame link… ya, it may be more difficult of a combo than many others of Abels, but the fact of the matter is THAT IS Abel’s bread and butter. Its great damage that you can hit from range, with a fantastic amount of time to hit confirm off of the forward kick. And even if you chose to FADC the rekka, by the time you finish your c.hp xx roll xx FS you’ve already built another 3/4 bar. The net cost is only going to be 1.25 bars, plus great damage, and an untechable knockdown. If landing a forwad kick combo at every possible opportunity is wrong then I definitely dont want to be right!

Lol, if you could hit that link every single time then that’s what you would go for.

lol yeah to be fair most, if not all the punish involving f.mk dash s.hp in that vid against Ken were the best option imo… im not digging the f.mk dash s.hp he kept doing on crouching opp though, but yeah the f.mk dash s.hp aint that hard and if you got it locked down, nothings wrong with applying it any given chance.

I agree completely with you hfz, would have liked to have seen more c. lp-> cl. mp xx rekka after the forward kick in to stand his little bitch-shoto-ass up (not damdai, fucking midget characters in general just piss me off)

Good point that. I wonder if they’ll address this in the new one. Pleaseeeeeee.

I dont think they’ll change the fact that cl. hp whiffs on half of the cast when they’re crouching, all I want is to be able to link forward kick -> c. lp -> cl. mp/hp… that would solve SOOOOOOO many problems with characters with 3 frame jabs, that cl. hp whiffs on… eff shotos!

i agree with you destruc but i wouldn’t call it abel’s BnB. to me a BnB should work on every char reguardless if they are ducking or not or you are to close(honda) to me his best BnB is cr.mk cod

anyone got vids on just ur standard abel player doing some championship mode?? preferable G2 or G1?? i can watch all these pro vids but seriously i just dont have the technics to do what they do at the moment so i kinda want to take it one step at a time and just watch ppl better than me but not ppl at an almost unattainable level compared to where i stand right now

I know and understand exactly what you’re saying, I’d rather not play symantics over the definition of a BnB, cause you and I both know exactly what I meant

lol i have a lot of old G2 vids if you wanna watch

edit: most vids in this thread are of beginners/mid level/non-pro abels , so yeah take your time exploring this thread

I was a bit uncomfortable with the tv they were streaming on so i may have missed that link once or twice but generally I hit this 95% of the time. I’d love to see your excellent abel at work, post some vids.

Yeah, you got that link down for reals. I enjoy watching other Abel players play Ken cause it looks really different from how I play against Ken.

btw way destructive, have you played joonthebaboon? he’s my ken sparring partner, lol.

I’m just start reading sonichurricane.com’s Footsies Handbook, and I’ve found many footsies elements in Ryder’s videos.
Ryder’s videos really did great help for me, and I look forward to see more of your great videos! Keep up the good job and big thanks to you!!!

striving to do that stuff that seems impossible for you to do can really get you better trust me…

Step kick into close fierce combo is Abel’s strongest punish if he has meter. Without you are better going for c.fp xx falling sky but you don’t always have time. Who cares if the combo is hard… if you can do it, you should. It is a very good combo. What other link would he use? c.lp, s.fp so that his combo gets scaled?

Damdai is mash happy so you can’t mix him up too much after a knockdown… Ryder did make a good play at the end to bait the shoryu and he missed one other opportunity, he cross up rolled to TT when a roll, roll would have made damdai’s srk whiff. But roll, roll loses to throw, so again you have to play pretty conservatively against those kinds of guys. In matchups like this your best option is a step kick combo and lots of footsies… safe hit confirm. TT is too risky. Playing bonehead Rico style might give you a fluke win here and there but to seriously compete, Ryder’s more Japanese style is the way to go.

You need to play a good Cammy… dive kicks can cross up. They usually hit in front, but Cammy won’t necessarily land there. On wakeup I am almost positive it can cross you up. Like I said, the mixup between throw/dive kick/srk is tough to stop… moreso than it is in the Rufus matchup because her srk hit confirms into itself for huge damage and she is -2 after a forward dash, so you can’t roll out and your only reliable option in that scenario is standing close fierce. Really we are talking about a matchup against a character with a tenacious pressure game, srk, good backdash, dive kick, and a large number of deadly hit confirm combos… no matter how you slice it, it is a bad matchup for Abel. possibly worse than vs. Rufus.

played a good cammy at tourney on Sunday
i was fuckin lost with all them TK drills, hard to build an offense
and at the end of the day she has a DP to beat out anything Abel can throw out, besides EX roll

Lol Ryder played very well in the match/matches against Damdai and I remember thinking whilst watching the stream that I prefer Abel’s more ‘japanese’ I guess and not Abels who mix up all the time his execution was on point I can’t see an argument against using it other than it whiffs on Ken crouching.
