I guess it was more of a video about shoulder tackle than a video about Abel.
Still pretty surprised they skipped so much. I mean, he can chain into standing or crouching roundhouse for unreactable high-low. Probably quite unsafe, but it wasn’t an option at all in SF4, so you might as well mention it while skimming over mixup.
This is something I saw occasionally in videos but I don’t think a lot of people realize. After they removed far roundhouse -> tag via mashing the button, everyone assumed you could only launch from proper chains, but I’ve seen recent videos where players canceled raw close fierce into launcher, or crouching medium straight into launcher. I assume you have to actually input :HP::HK: now to cancel single normals.
Are we sure s.HK still works the same way? Especially when chained into? But yeah, if that works, it will be quite dirty. 50/50 if you get a knockdown or a link to a combo of your choice.
Can anyone confirm whether or not Abel’s tackle move has armor while charging, or if it’s only once the super activates? I haven’t noticed the charge get hit in any video, and no one has mentioned it as far as I know, but it would make sense to me for it to have armor, considering the nature of the move.
Someone’s got to finish the Abel trials and upload them here on youtube. I’m stuck on 18. For some reason I can’t get the c.H after 3 EX shoulder tackles, but you can do it off 2.
General Thoughts/Differences:
Pokes:
st.lk is still great. st.mp is ok.
Tornado throw isn’t as good
cl.st hp isn’t great anti air anymore
ex falling sky feels stronger as anti air
wheel kick animation is different. Not as good
Combos:
Off st.lk best I can see happening is cross rush so that’s going to be the bulk of his damage so far it looks like. Note that the distance will most likely be too far to do cr.hp or for cl.st.hp to work so no special cancels.
cr.lp links into cr.mp. So cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mp, CoD is a viable meterless combo
after step kick on hit- close st.mp (2hits), cr.hp(1 hit), ex shoulder, j.hp, cr.hp(1 hit), falling sky. If you need more hit confirm do st.lp first
on block do cr.lk string or whatever
Anti air stuff-
On CH trade cr.hp leads to ridiculous damage (ex shoulder etc)
cr.mk CH leads to good damage
TT does less damage IIRC and startup feels longer though I may be wrong about that. It feels like tick TT setups aren’t as good. Not sure on range yet.
Step kick combo is a chain yes.
Also forgot to mention his regular dash isn’t as good/fast anymore.
Still want to say I feel he’s a very strong character so far.

Startup isn’t as bad as I thought. I think you get more hitstun off normals now so landing it on hit is tricky though who needs that if you get a full combo.
Even though I never mained Abel in SSF4, the time I spent with him when compared to SFxT, I feel that TT has a pretty long recovery and the startup of Wheel kick is longer =[…So far I found out that if Abel is second on the team, you can actually juggle someone with COD. For example, if I do a basic L>M>H>launcher into Abel, Abel can do H>COD>COD follow up while the person is in the air and all of the hits will connect. I know its simple but I didn’t see it mentioned
Few things i’m hoping you guys with the game early can test for me.
Step kick, dash. Do speed gems increase his dash speed even after a step kick? As this could give him some nasty block-stun to work with.
Can you do Step kick, St hp, Cr hp? Pretty sure I cancelled st hp into cr hp by accident when playing an early release but never did check it out properly.
I can’t find any way to land c.fp maybe with a gem the link will become possible?
in any case he got a whole bunch of new links. he seems to do low damage to me right now, compared to easy shoto juggles… I bet Abel will open people up like crazy in this game now though.

looks like you get a safe jump setup off a chain canceled sweep. f+mk c.lp s.mp xx c.rh could be pretty sweet.
c.fp xx lk roll I kept crossing under Kazuya… this is probably better than not crossing up because they are so close to you, you could probably get some nice juggles with this. the only consistent way to land c.fp probably is by chaining into it, so you’d have to learn some combos after c.fp xx EX roll but even then, damage scaling is so severe… might not be worth the bar
anybody with a guide. how safe is CoD on block? advantage on hit? might be new links there too, it was +3 before. any special moves that cause floor bounce or something? Abel doing such low damage seems weird to me haha
i feel like falling sky is very high damage, much higher than SF4, gotta figure out more ways to get to it(other than the obvious cr fp)
also his cross assault which is like Heartless is SO GOOD as an anti air
I’ve been using F=mp,cr. lp, cr.mp, cr.fp, EX tackle, cr.fp, falling sky. Can’t access the game right now but how much is that version with the jumping fp, cr.mp, falling sky?
Also I’m trying to figure out who would be a better partner, Gief or Marduk, not sure who can get more off of Abel though.
Also anyone else find any combos into super, kept trying to do it of of cr.fp
You cant combo into his super since its a grab. But theres some interesting things you can do with it.
I’ve been using one bar after knockdown to charge EX shoulder tackle into Super for that 50/50 wake up.
He has 1 hit of super armor and you can cancel it if need be and its tricky because you can still
charge it after its activated.
Sort of like the ultra 2 in the corner trap for Zangief
400 dam for one EX is low damage for the meter spend… even on day 1

c.fp seems to me like you need to spend a bar to get any damage off it, if you want to hit confirm into c.fp. using it as a tag swap to your other char looks like the best way to maximize damage off it.
