Abel General Discussion

End of Kaz chains and other Tekken chains. Having problems with these, I need to sort out timing on alpha counters.

Just block the attack and as soon as you see the blue force-field thing that happens when you block something and smash dat stick forward and hit hp+hk. You can visually confirm it relatively easily, only slightly tougher online. Kaz overhead groundbounce thing is always EASILY punishable on block with s.lk so you can usually just wait until they throw that out if they’re scrub. But yeah, Alpha Counter is the most important thing to learn because that is a free s.lk combo once you figure it out. Another thing that is good to learn is to ex-TT out of frame traps. I’m pretty sure it’s still hit-invincible, haven’t done any real testing since I mostly play KOF now but it sure seems like it. Might have to test if the invincibility is in the start-up frames because with a 5(I believe?) frame startup it’s not the fastest. But that’s only 200 damage for a meter and an alpha counter into s.lk launcher combo is much better use so in almost any situation your best option is alpha.

Holy crap manual launcher is the schnizz. St. short xx Launcher(90 dmg), Step kick, st. FP(both hits)xx Launcher(210 dmg). Goodbye cross assault. Hello shorter combos and less scaling.

How do you anti-air with him? I just got beat by basically nothing but heihachi j.rh

I went into training room against the same move (heihachi j.rh) literally no buttons beat this? cr.mk gets stuffed st.mp gets stuffed, cr.hp gets stuffed/trades…only ex skyfall beats this. Also on crossups his st.hp just whiffs now so abel can’t do anything to contest like jab jab crossup x infinity? I really don’t want to only have to rely on performing reversals or jump away hp.

You don’t have to anti air him, just roll out of the way.

if they jump right next to you, st.HP “kinda”. It tends to work well but sometimes it trades, I always OS it with Lk roll just in case.

Any tips on how to avoid getting the EX Shoulder tackle out when trying to do a EX (Tornado, COD, Falling sky) from block? I’m having BIG problems with this situation on defense and giving the opponents free damage.

Damn I really like Abel this game. I just started messin with him, and I think he’ll make a great teammate for Guile. Those alpha counter setups are very interesting. With him coming in with a lot of meter that Guile’s gained for him, I can see him being very dangerous. And after spending some hours with him in the training room, I already thought he was great before I saw this nifty trick.

from my experience… i’ve only been able to get around this problem by letting the stick go to NEUTRAL first before going into TT, COD, FSky
Let’s hope that they decide to change the tackle command to :3k: next DLC… then he’ll feel even MORE like urien.

There’s also another layer of mixups he can do off a regular cr.lk hitconfirm, but I better record them on vid since its easier to understand like that. I havent had time to do it due to work stuff (real life sucks) but I’ll do my best to finish it this week.

Not sure about you guys but I feel like Abel has one of the best charge supers in the game. You can bait out a LOT with it when you have them in the corner. You can charge and backdash or you can charge and let it rock, absorb 1 hit and hit them with Breathless. It surprises me how many people online literally sit and hold downback as if they can block it. I think i’m going to stick with Abel, he is just fun as hell to play.

Also is it just me or does his light TT look like it does 0 damage sometimes…or is taht a glitch online? I notice sometimes I won’t get any damage (or what looks like no damage) from the light version.

Who is everyone using as Abel’s partner? I’ve been lost since I started playing this game and I need some ideas.

I was messing around in the lab the other day, looking to make use of Abels overhead. Well, I was a little inspired by Clakey Ds new tech in the recent cross counter video, he stops his Hugo combo early to charge up to level 2 while the opponent falls to the floor, this lets him go for the overhead, which on hit will lead to a crumple and massive damage.

Now, Abels overhead on counterhit cause a groundbounce, the unfortunate thing is that trying to charge up to level 2 with Abel isn’t easy because of it’s slow startup…even if you cancel cr.hp into it you won’t have enough advantage to go for the mixup. I found that the only way to have enough time is to use EX charge, but of course this uses a bar. It’s definitely worth exploring more, I just couldn’t find any setups without using meter, sad times

My set up has basically been cutting my juggles short by one step kick, then finishing with both hits of cl.HP. Allows you to start charging lp tackle right before they hit the ground I believe.

You can either let it rip if they quick tech for a meaty tackle that is + for a grab set up, or if they miss the tech charge it up for a ex tackle/super/dash, roll into overhead set up.

Not the best set up probably but it’s been working for me so far.
