Abel FAQs + Hitbox Videos

Although maybe its not that practical to practice it off of a point blank neutral jumping zangief… since in a real match he could catch you with neutral jump headbutt etc if youre not blocking properly (buffering the TT) and if he’s going to land into U1, maybe its me but its kinda harder to time the TT to catch the ultra (gotta be quick to react to whether he neutral jumped attack or whiff attack or empty neutral jump)…

A simple question.how much positive does abels is when he does the mk dash foward? Thanks in advance.

This isn’t specific to Abel, but I am having trouble teching throws especially when my opponent tries to throw me off of a blocked jump in. I usually go for the crouch tech but it doesn’t seem to work. Can that not be teched using the crouch tech OS?

Thanks in advance for the help.

you need to tech Later, jump in’s are like +10. If you tech too early, you’re still in blockstun, so nothing comes out. This may help: SF4 Game Mechanics: Frame Traps

Thanks for the link. Very helpful. time to hit the training room.

So is the frame data that is in the first post still accurate for 2012?

any advice on how to get the post TT mixup timing down? I keep getting thrown out of the lk or mk roll a lot when playing online (could be lag)

Which set up are you talking about?

it seems like if they cross up ex cod comes out instead of ex tt

sorry I meant his ambiguous roll set up.

I randomly decided to go look up some hitbox data last night and when it came up to Abel I noticed something I hadn’t before…
Abel’s cr :lk: has a FanTastIc hitbox…

I went to training mode and played with it against ryu’s low :mk:
It’s range is VERY close to that of standing :lk: but the difference is, It NEVER trades!

It does only 20 damage so it’s very weak, but it’s +4 on hit…
Being that it’s incredibly reliable it’s a decent tool in footsies and can open up a step kick and or other mix-ups opportunity…

now that’ we’re on the subject of him hitboxes…
I hope the cr mk hitboxes is improved.

The amount of pure, invincible hitbox on it is relatively small…
It’s still a great anti-air no question, however it’s “decent” hit-box/hurt-box ratio makes it vulnerable to certain jump ins

So a nice buff I think would be to take Abel’s cr :mk: and improve it to be like makotos
WHICH ambiguous roll set up? Just write down what you are doing man, if you are thrown out of your rolls, you are obviously doing it totally wrong, because even after the roll you should be in massive frame advantage, so that you can hit a cr.hp meaty after a lk roll or a close standing mp meaty after mk roll. Just go into training mode, choose Abel as Player 2 !! Record your setups and try to counter it with player 1 (Ryu for example) by mashing throw or cr.lp, if you can defend against the mixups on wakeup, you are doing it wrong with Abel.
Vega player here practicing abel for ultra…quick question…on characters where step kick xx Cs Hp whiffs on their crouch…is there another combo that I can sub in there after the step kick xx that will connect??

Afraid not…

Don’t worry, neth… I think the hitbox on that Fierce will extend lower in Ultra so Abel will be uh… able to hit the crouchers. Someone correct me if I’m wrong…

I just look for the counter-hit and cr.lp, s.mp, cod, whatnot. Or you can confirm the s.hp once you get an eye for it.
