Abel’s defense is ass. What are his anti-airs so I wont have to FS all jump ins?
2/3 screen to half screen use a combination of s.mk, c.mk, J.hp and on some characters s.HP. I usually stick with c.mk. I lowers Abels hurtbox while raising his hitbox. It has a weird timing to it but its quite effective. Inside of Half screen I almost always go with cs.HP, it has a ridiculous hitbox, it stops some crossups and its cancelable into roll. SO you can turn one good defensive attack into your party starter if you cs.HP xx HK roll, EX Grab (it crosses up) and you’re off and running. Since you typically want to be in step kick range you should find yourself using cs.HP more and any other anti air. Falling sky scares me, I only use it if its a meaty jumpin as a surprise counter.
Abels defense is fine, your command of him is just lacking. Honestly though, he’s not the kind of player you pick up as a backup, he requires ALOT of practice and understanding because he has a lot of options for most ever situation. Best of luck. This forum is awesome
falling sky against meaty jump in? i dont think that will ever work. ex TT, yes.
… far s.mp is awesome too. works against most if not all the cast. i once beat a fei long using mostly s.mp.
neutral jump lk, hk, hp (and sometimes mk) can be useful as AA too.
(hahah i have a feeling that ive written this post plenty of times already)
I feel like a lot of people end up writing the same posts plenty of times in the Abel forums. Or maybe that’s just all of srk…
And double f… A little tip: Just about anybody can auto correct a dp, whether or not they’re knowledgeable enough to be doing it intentionally or not, sf4 just makes it really easy. Don’t be scared to not cross up on your opponent’s wake up. If they’re going to mash out a dp, it’s probably because 1) they suck and that’s just what they do, or 2) they’re scared because they don’t know what you’re going to do once they’re up (that includes not knowing what side your going to end up on).
Them being scared is good. Scared players make more stupid decisions and are easier to toy with. It also signifies that you have an element of control in the match. And the truth of the matter is, the fact that Abel’s rolls after fs or tt are ambiguous (very difficult to tell which side he will end up on) gives him much of his mixup potential. To me, that’s one of, if not the scariest things about Abel. Remember when everyone was freaking out about Abel possibly having more recovery on his rolls in AE? That’s because it could’ve potentially fucked with his ambiguous roll setups… A staple of Abel play. No one actually cared that they’d be easier to punish cause nobody was rolling across the screen like a fool in the first place.
But I digress. My point is don’t ruin his rolls ambiguity by ALWAYS crossing up. If anything, it’s less safe because you have less frame advantage after the forward roll than you do the short. But all that really means is that you can’t meaty cr. f, which doesn’t matter. I’m a pussy and like my hit confirms.
And to be honest, you really should have many more than 2 things you do after a tornado throw. Again… you don’t have to cross up. You have plenty of options, and you have the benefit of having a brain (I’m assuming) that allows you to tailor your options to your opponents tendencies.
hey all, I was watching a video of Abel in AE and on wake up he did a tornado throw that had armor

what? That move doesn’t get armor as a reversal does it? I don’t play as Abel, or against him much really, so I’m just not sure. What I’m guessing is it’s kinda like gen’s parry and the taunt focus glitch? Any one have some info on this?
that, my friend, is an armor cancelled TT.
ex CoD xx TT.
its not new, ever since vanilla. its just you dont see many videos of people doing it in a real match.
abel can armor cancel into all his specials(except cod i guess), and ultra. (not sure about super, pretty pointless if you ask me)
so yeah
against balrog… EX COD against his dash punch xx into ultra! If that doesn’t get you a pat on the back from you opponent nothing will!
You can armour cancel into both ultras (has it’s uses) as well as super, but like you said, armour canceling into super has little to no use.
ehh
armor cancel into U1 is not guaranteed because of how slow it is. armor cancel into U2 is a lot better.
armor cancel into super is pretty much 100% guaranteed to work because of how fast it is
really… it’s cancelling the EX CoD before it uses up a stock? weeeiirdd
thanks for the clarification!
What I was getting at was that armor canceling into super gives you no added benefits over jab (hit invincible) super
Armour cancel -> U1 in between Guiles sweep works, but yeah - still pretty useless
A random trick I saw written on Shiro’s guild section…
“(gimmicks) as abel, disable taunt and on wake up do 41236 mp+hp+lk+hk and if the opponent lands in front - you’ll get ex roll, if crosses up - ex TT will come out.”
i havent test it though. 41236 = HCF. So I guess ex roll has priority over ex CoD? hmm
Kicks have a higher priority than punches, so that makes sense IMO
so yeah i just got the new AE guide with frame data, might update the frame data or ill just edit and save as a different version.
though its fucked up that they have breathless havin the same startup and everything, that the only thing changed was the damage(maybe not the only thing but im too sleep to double check at the moment). wut? haha
ill read it later though cuz i lack sleep at the moment its givin me headache lol
New to Abel, attempting the c.mp cod fadc c.hp ultra. In practice mode I have super on refill and I correctly input the ultra but super still comes out (won’t happen in a match). Can’t figure this one out. Anyone else have a similar problem in the past?
well… you do not correctly input the ultra.
Check your inputs (training mode options).
It happens to me too, i am so used to plink HP that some times i plink HP while pressing the HPMPLP.
Training mode, input display. Make sure all your motions are very clean and concise. A problem that I notice a lot of players have is not going to down after the first quarter circle so it looks like
:qcf::df::f::3p:
when it should obviously look like
:qcf::qcf::3p:
I can’t stress enough how important actually looking at your inputs can be.
thats what the caps lock button is for… lol
I figured it out, my problem was I did it just before the recovery frames finished and the only thing that can come out is the super since it’s being canceled.
