Also I assume you meant crouching fierce not crouching forward lol?
Low forward is one of Abels best anti air options - so yes, he does mean crouching forward. Although in some situations, low fierce is also a good AA normal.
Strange, i’ve never heard this abreviation before. I guess everyone refers to the attacks differently, I assume low forward is the same as crouching mid kick?
In which case, I am suprised because I thought this AA was only effective if they’re jumping in from a large distance, not up close.
Try it in training mode. The hitbox will surprise you.
Keep getting wrecked by decent Gen players Is the timing for the crouching medium kick quite strict or something when they’re up close? And by close I mean they’re so close that they’re sliding down my face when they jump in. Gen has a weird jump arc, what can I say lol.
I managed to stop a few attempts by doing jumping fierce, but that require me to anticipate the opponent and it’s impossible for me to react in time during certain situations.

c.mk hitbox.
It’s not strict. But, you can special cancel c.mk. So, if the c.mk lands, you can cancel into an roll for a mix-up. Just practice.
Nevermind i’ve found a way to deal with it, I try and keep them within crouching mks ideal range if I know they’re prone to jump in alot and jump fierce backwards when up close.
People love to jump in online, so as a result I’m taking off about half their health now just by doing anti airs lol.
Haha, I also got hatemail from a Ryu player earlier because the first time we met he’d constantly run away firing hadouken before quickly switching to offense and catching me off guard. But the second time we met, I got the life lead and then simply neutral jumped over his fireballs until he was force to charge at me and he was like puty in my hands lol.
I don’t see why people get so frustrated over this game, atleast not to the extent that they send other players threatening messages lol.
Heheh, welcome to zoning. This basic idea frustrates the HELL out of shitty players online. 90% of online shotos are so gimmicky, jump back jump back fireball, and then jump forward roundhouse when you jump towards them. You can see their brains falling apart when you refuse to jump at them, and just stay in one place.
The funniest thing is he played exactly as you described BUT in the hatemail he sent me, he called me a “runaway scrub” xD. Never seen such a hypocrite before lol.
If you have life lead, don’t play cat and mouse. Make him make the error, and punish the fuck out of it. Most shoto will handle rushdown characters in different manners, but the good ones I play usually wait for you to make a mistake, don’t give them that chance. If you get a good life lead, theres no fault in waiting it out!
Oh, and for my abbreviations, it’s called forward because if you notice, he does a kick with his leg forward. All characters do this, Fierce Kick is called Roundhouse because everyone (I think except duds and boxer) do a roundhouse kick! It’s universal stuff dudeeee
:S
I played some guy earlier and he beat me with about three different characters because I just couldn’t get within forward MK range without him stopping me. He was very defensive and just poked away at me whenever I tried to get within range, but he kept me at a range that even if I tried to counter poke I couldn’t follow up with my forward MK because it lacked the range of his pokes.
I’m fairly competant at breaking through my opponents defence when I can get up close but this guy was effectively keeping me out with about half the characters he played.
So what options do I have open to me to work my way in? Aerials resulted in AAs, dashes resulted in pokes. The only other option I can think of is FADCing the pokes, but can I rely solely on that for getting in? It seems pretty risky.
great story
Well I could give you good advice if you were a bit more specific on which characters but from what I can gather, your opponent knows that you’re desperate for that stepkick and is exploiting you for it. Tip range wheel kicks over predicted low pokes, cr mk xx rekka / sweep over high pokes, FADC through slow pokes and frustrate your opponent with s lk (which aslo serves the purpose of opening up step kick opportunities).
You gotta play super patient and with smart footsies with someone like that or else you’ll just chip away at your own life also, you cant give away that you really want that step kick since it’ll be really easy for him to keep you out once he understands that. Thats another part of smart play, keeping your intentions hidden. Sure, he knows what you ultimately want to do is get in but at neutral state, there are so many possibilities for him to watch out for and react to. Limiting yourself to counterpoking with stepkick makes it easier for him and harder for you. You’re playing abel son, gotta mix it up!
Hope that helps
Thanks I never even thought of using crouching mk in that way, I always believed it was only useful as an anti air lol. -_- I can’t help but feel that i’ve been getting worse this week, initially I had roughly about 2300pp and now it’s down to 1400 and i’m losing a ton of matches.
I have another question lol, if I somehow find myself hitting an unguarded opponent with a blockstring is there anyway to guarantee a decent combo from there. The only one i’ve come across is cr.lp, s.fiercexxCoD but this hardly gives me chance to confirm whether or not the opponent is guarding or not, not to mention i’m actually finding it harder to pull of than step kick, fierce punchxxCoD for some reason.
If a blockstring is composed entirely of crouching jabs and low kicks can I only special cancel from the very first attack of that blockstring? I’m not sure if this is the case or if it’s just me being unable to special cancel once the stick is already down or not but I can only seem to special cancel the first hit.
I’ve watched numerous videos, been getting tips from here and generally just been playing the game for ages now. But I don’t seem to be getting any better, if anything i’m getting worse.
Would anyone with xbox live be willing to spar with me and tell me what I need to work on/how I can improved? I’d post a video if I could but sadly I have no way of getting one on the net. You can give me feedback over mic, through a message on xbox live or even on here i’m not particularly fussy.
Just a heads up though, my dog has chewed the actual mic itself so it won’t pick up what I say, it just comes out as muffled noise.
updated the frame data info with range of TT
based on the latest version of the technical guide (the latest being the 4th revised edition), range for TT are as follows
LP - 1.3
MP - 1.1
HP - 0.9
EX - 1.2
dear lord i havent posted here in forever, i have to pretty much start from scratch now since i havent played in forever
I’ve started plinking, and while it is incredibly useful, for some reason every now and then when doing the f.mk into fp an ex cod will come out instead of a hp cod.
Anyway I can fix that?
/checks the QnAs template
Practice more. I sometimes cancelled the hp into mp cod instead since somehow i felt its easier (to just release the mp button after plinking the hp)… but yeah if you insist on using hp cod + plinking, practice more is the only way you can fix that.
Practice. mmkay
goood dang it… it’s training mode…
make sure the inputs are right and just do the combo over and over and over… it’s as simple as that.
I’m not an idiot…i’ve obviously been to training mode and the inputs are perfect…
