Abel FAQs + Hitbox Videos

So i know thats a hit confirm, but I don’t think I could verify the cr.lp hits and choose to link the S.mp or not. Do you guys do cr.lp , st.mp (now you can tell if it hit) xx nothing or XX CoD accordingly? or are you reacting fast enough to the cr.lp block/hit before you even input st.mp?

Well, before it’s asked.
c.lp > s.fp is a 3-frame link
c.lp > s.mp is a 2-frame link
c.lk > s.fp is a 1-frame link

But, you need to try that out yourself, bro. Go into training mode and set the AI’s block to random. If you can cr.lp, st.mp and tell it’s blocked or not, it’s a hit confirm for you. Obviously, if the st.mp lands, you can go into a strong CoD. Same shit with cr.lp > s.fp, except with fierce CoD. Sorry I can’t help out much.

^^ That’s not what he’s asking.

Willy, while it’s pretty hard to hit confirm the st.mp xx CoD off of one cr.lp, it’s doable in certain situations, like if the cr.lp is meaty and you’re actively watching for it (which you should) - otherwise, cr.lp, st.mp (hit confirm) CoD is how you’d want to do it. You use st.mp because even on block, you’re only left at -2, which means it’s mostly un-punishable.

sometimes i do cr.lp s.mp without confirming the cr.lp hit/blocked, i guess it isnt that bad since cr.lp on block is +3 and s.mp has 5 startup, i guess its a frame trap… only shoryu/quick reversal with invicibility etc can beat that i think.

though most of the time i try my best to react to the cr.lp hit or not, that kind of stuff comes with training (training mode and sparring with real people)… all of this reaction stuff imo can be trained. sure some people are gifted with good reflex and all, but dont let that stop you.

yeah and what electric said too

i think i wanna test vs every character this combo : f.mk dash cr.lk cr.lp s.hp/mp (note: the f.mk and cr.lk doesnt combo though, it just sets up the distance where the combo will work - more hit confirming time though wont work against everyone)

So you answered my question. The reason you would do a weaker one is because the same strength isn’t guaranteed to connect. I’ve never had the same strength CoD miss but, because the difference between HP and LP CoD is only 10 damage I’ll go with LP for here on out.

Abel only has two hit confirms into rekka off of normals, from my experience.

Just do low jab -> cl.strong, and low short -> cl.fierce. I’ve had my OS low forward -> CoD jumped and punished in footsies. It isn’t a fun thing to deal with. Gotta know when to not do anything or when they’re gonna run into it (as far as the OS goes).

Also, after TT…you can’t get close normals with the regular setup on Balrog. So with characters like him (I believe it’s Honda and Vega?) you gotta find a way to land your mix up again. I usually do short short OS, or strong TT. I don’t go for a big combo until after I land another mix up.

SO yeah, I decided to translate the frame data from the Technical Guide, i figured the numbers are probably gonna be the same as eventhubs/wiki etc…

Thus, I translated the “notes” section first since I dont think any sites with frame data had them translated yet.

I’ll try to answer any questions regarding the translation.

Here’s the link to the frame data (workin on the data, notes section done)

Abel Frame Data (with notes)

Good shit HFZ - those notes look pretty interesting - when you’re done I’ll get that stuff added to the Shoryuken wiki

Translated a table from the Japanese SSF4 wiki. Good stuff imo.

F.MK dash (point blank) CR.LK CR.LP related stuff

Their wiki is fuckin impressive, imma work on translating stuff there and share it with people here. Not saying they are always 100% correct, but hey nothing is stopping us to retest everything, no?

edit: the Hit/Blocked in the table refers to the F.MK

edit2: Okizeme Variation

Second link is really cool shit. Are they okizeme post-f+mks, or are they okizeme OSes?

nope, if you read carefully - from TT, FS, throws, sweep (all hard knockdowns)

and you have no idea how the first link is pretty useful to know too.

No, after a f+mk you can link c.lk, c.lp, s.fp/s.mp. Character dependant.

3 posts above you, ive translated the compilation of post f.mk (hit/blocked) dash shenanigans against every character

**

and is it me or people be throwing the term OS like crazy now? everything is fuckin OS now wut?

It’s a craze. A lot of scrubs think the difference between a good player and a decent player is knowledge of OSes.

I’ve NEVER used f+mk cr.lk, cr.lp. But shit seems gold.

Are we just talking about CH links for the Forward MK? Or is that table of F-MK to cr.lk LINK st.mp useful for block string type stuff to bait a counter hit? I understand the data, just trying to determine why they made that chart

well CH is a different story, the point of the chart is to know against who will the cr.lk cr.lp s.mp combo works at point blank(this can be achieved from doing f.mk dash in, be it hit or blocked, hit stand/crouch or blocked stand/crouch)…

after the cr.lk cr.lp, next move come out as close version or far version. this knowledge can be applied to improve your blockstring game imo.

i think its really useful.

alright, so the F-MK was just a way to say “you are at point blank” instead of actually using F-MK to begin some hypothetical combo? Because the links people were describing (cr.lk after a F-Mk hit) I believe are only possible on CH.

Info is good, but i thought they were saying these were combo setups, which is obviously not really what the chart is trying to show us, just pushback.

yeah if the f.mk is a CH, the cr.lk will combo, makin the hit confirming easier for those who wanna play safe and cant react to counter hit well… the chart is basically data that can be applied to your game in many ways, how you wanna apply it depends on you.

Updated first post. It’s real messy right now, i’ll try and organize it better when I have the time.
