Of course it won’t work. Most of the people on kaillera lag. Especially the people that post on this forum that play on kaillera. Once someone loses to a scrub just because of lag, they tend to just drop out of the tournament. After this happens once or twice, everyone thats even halfway decent realizes how stupid these tournaments are, and everybody refuses to enter it.
People that win with their lag refuse to believe that other people can’t play in it. I get some severe delay along with the lag with some people, where my moves are delayed by a second or more. I’ve been told some people actually have a way to do this on purpose. For instance, even with a ping of 30 I’ll have what feels like 200 ping against certain people, whereas a ping of 30 against others is playable. It has nothing to do with wins-losses either. I can lose the majority of my matches to someone without having this ridiculous delay, and I won’t complain. In fact, I’ll actually be happy to keep playing the person. However, there are those others that win soleley because of the lag, or I have to struggle to just barely win more. Those…are not fun at all. Of course, none of these people will ever stop to think that they’re winning because of delay or lag, they all like to think they’re just that good.
Now, you take these facts and put them into a kaillera tournament. Unless you can somehow screen for lag, and unless the players know and trust each other enough to restart because of delay or whatnot, the person thats winning or won the matches will demand he get credit for it. Theres also the distance problem. EC vs WC just doesn’t work for either player. Getting the pings closer together while both higher doesn’t make it fair, it just benefits whoever can play with higher ping. I’d much rather have two players playing at their best than one playing at a mediocre level and winning because the other can’t play to even half his potential.
Look, if you guys really want to play ‘competitive’ SF online, atleast play on ZBattle. It’s not arcade SF, but it is WORLDS better than kaillera. I wouldn’t take ZBattle seriously either, but atleast its 95% of the time going to be better than kaillera. Seriously, get zsnes, get zbattle, go and play guys like DGV and Jumpsuit, etc.
Yeah, Kaillera can be frustrating. I’ve never done a kaillera tourney before, but I figure that most of what serpent is going to say happens. Oh well, It’s not like anyone takes it seriously anyway. And Zbattle doesn’t have A3, does it?
