A3 Ken's combo (am I timing it wrong?)

OK first off, I quite a newbie to fighting games in general… I decided on A3 to get into it, and I took Ken because Ryu seemed like the guy every newb would take and I thought Ken would be about as well rounded as Ryu…

In a combo guide I downloaded, one of Ken’s combos is listed as:

Z: Jab hadouken-> mid air tatsumaki senpuukyaku-> standing jab x2-> level 3 shinryuuken.

First off, what does Z mean? Other combos are prepended by X and A also so I don’t think it’s ISM stuff…

I can do jab hadouken -> tatsumaki senpuu kyaku, but the first jab is always too slow to add hits to the combo (so I presume I screwed up the combo). Is there some tricky timing for tatsumaki senpuu kyaku -> jab? I just do the tatsumaki and then start hitting jab as much as possible.

That’s all for now, thanks.

out of curiosity, why in the hell would you want to do that combo anyway? 50bucks says youll almost never land that combo even against a 5 year old thats deaf, blind, crippled from the neck down, and has to use his tongue to move the stick. pretty crummy combo and waste of your time if you ask me

I’m too new to the genre to evaluate the usefulness of specific combos I guess. I just saw it listed in a text file and decided to try and get it down pat.

To figure out the game, all I’m doing right now is practicing the moves, trying to figure out the info in the system doc, and working on combos (all with ken).

I’m hoping to progess from there once i figure it out.

Z is an ism, Japanese… A=Z, so use A for it. tatsumaki senpuukyaku (qcb+k, quarter circle back with kick…) should be fine, are you using the LK version? If not, that may be your problem.

I guess this combo has to be in the corner since hadou ken hits the enemy too far away to use tatsumaki sempuukyaku.

I’ve tried it in a corner but I always get something like,

[nothing] (1 hit)
4 hits
2 hits

Doesn’t look like a combo to me.

well i would guess the air hurrican will wiff, it just gets you to the opponent really fast if you do it fast enough so you can combo the jabs after the fireball.

I’m assuming that you’re referring to the All About Zero 3 Ken combo translation. Well, at the time I just wanted to make the combos known as soon as possible and never really bothered to explain how the combos were performed.

So without further ado…

The Ken combo:

Z: Jab hadouken-> mid air tatsumaki senpuukyaku-> standing jab x2-> level 3 shinryuuken.

Note: this combo must be performed against a cornered Zangief who is recovering from a double lariat.

Hope this clears things up.

Enjoy the second combo
Now that’s worth learning.

im glad some people know that ken’s j.fierce is extremely good. pops em up so high for death combos
