A Team I'd Like To Call: Team Noob

tl;dr: How do I beat a spamming Cable/Sentinel/Blackheart?

Team Noob, a name I came up with, which I also tend to call, Team Scrub 2.0 or Team Scrub v2. I used to beat my uncle something terrible in this game with most of the chars in this game, yes, low and high tiers, but this was due to me being able to constantly combo him into supers constantly, but after he decided to go online and play, he realized that he wouldn’t be able to win…unless…-revelation music plays- he uses the cheapest chars in the game, Cable-AA/Sentinel-G/Blackheart-AA. See, his strategy is this: spam fp with Cable, ending each burst of shots with a viper beam while also spamming Blackhearts assisst(occasionally using Sent’s to mix it up), then tossing in a Hyper Viper Beam when he feels it should be used(i.e. thinks I’m going to bring out an assist or thinks im going to try and super jump over to him).

Now he uses this strategy to keep me away from him as long as possible and to chip damage me as much as possible or punish any assist I dare bring out, though recently starting to use Cyclops assist helped me alot as it went through must of his bull crap, but anyways, After all my characters lose half their health Cable finally dies, or is exchanged with Sent once his health nears 0, I have to face a keep away Sent and his array of super combo into fp into Rocket Punch. If I am lucky enough to fight him long enough for him to bring his Blackheart out, I have to find ways to attack him while not being hit by his constant super jumps into fk, which leads to a painful super.

I’ve been able to beat that team without it being, because he “messed up” or “a move didn’t come out”. This was with a seemingly, well at first seemingly cheaper team consisting of Blackheart-AA/Cyclops-AA/Iceman-Projectile, and yes, I spammed super jumps into Blackheart’s fk while spamming cyclop’s AA and then spamming Iceman’s downward ice beams from air while still spamming Cyclop’s AA, only using cyclops when the other two were about to die. Eventually, though, he beat that team and now I can’t beat his team again, so I guess I just got lucky.

Now, after all that rambling on about being a noob and losing to a spamtastic team, all I really want to say is how do I beat Team Noob? Meaning who do I use/How do I use them/How long does it take to learn?

Easy cakes…

2 Things… both simple as hell.

1.) You describe him has ending cable’s shooty fp spam with ground viper beam. That move recovers slow as all hell. Anything that can punish full screen will punish that just fine. Most good cable’s will not do ground viper beam.

2.) Blackhearts assist is great to stop certain things… but its terrible against rush down. Just keep moving fwd and the assist will always hit behind you.

Basicaly use a character with a fast fwd air dash… and just sj. airdash fwd. Doing it right will get you by either assist.

Cable/sent/BH is not a great team at all. It’s the one scrub beating up on another scrub sort of team.

Thanks alot, bro. You actually made more sense than anything I’ve ever thought about. I will certainly have to try this.

Would you say Cyclops is pretty fast and can rush in on him to beat up on his blackheart? His Mega Optic Blast should also be able to punish his ground hyper viper beam, right? I’m having trouble thinking of people to party him with, maybe Sentinel with his ground assist? Doctor Doom and his AA assist would also be a good teammate, I imagine.

An air dash is better than a double jump, but cyke’s double jump will work… just jump up/fwd and quickly jump up/fwd again… if he called his BH assist it should go off behind you… at this point you can drop in on him and attack. If he blocks… finish out the combo in a block string anyways… then call your AAA. It will stuff any attempt to recall BH or sent for that matter… and you can continue the attack…

He could start doing scimitar once he see’s your past BH AAA… but he shouldn’t land this more than once. Once he shows you he’ll do this… you can just come in blocking and let him whiff scimitar… b/c its easy to punish.

mega optic blast starts up pretty slow… I don’t think it will connect… to punish g.vb…

you could probably do optic blast xx super optic blast… or optic sweep xx mega optic… to punish ground viper beam.

doom and sent are both good but not great against BH’s AAA. Cable can use it to stuff your assist fullscreen… and then proceed to hyper viper them to death…

Pick a good anti-air assist. It’s key… cyke’s is good… but if your talking about using him on point… you might want another char with solid AAA. It’s not just for anti-air… it’s to stuff their assist call at close range so you can keep the pressure on.

Rather than thinking… how can I beat him with spam b/c he wont let me near… you need to be thinking how do I get near and stay near. You’ll find 100 times the options this way… …you’ll also find that the godly cable is all to mortal when he is actually within combo range…

You can’t really call his team Noobish if he is owning you with that team. It means you haven’t thought hard enough or aren’t good enough to capitalize on his mistakes and flaws. With that being said…

My buddy Joe can play ANY Cable/Sent team with ANY assist and put a whoopin on many a marvel players. Add BH to the mix and he is far from spamming anything. If he decides to up his game then you will have a much more formidable problem to deal with. Storm pretty much counters everyone on that team. add in a Cable and keep Cyclops and you should deal with that team easy if you have the time to put in to learn the characters. He is playing with Cable/Sent which is dangerous enough in the right hands. As you get better he could potentially get better. But back to the subject. Mad Titan has the right idea. You will NEVER outspam Cable/BH. Or at least its unlikely without a spiral or strider/doom team. So get in there with Storm or mags and get dirty. Do you want to go God Tier or do you want to use characters you know? and what characters do you play btw?

Eternal here is a good trick with cyclops that might help you vs Cable. When he does a ground laser or ground Hyper Beam use cyclops optic beam then IMMEDIATELY cancel it into his small optic beam super.

This will give him one more thing to worry about dodging and will make his Cable more 1 dimensional.

Also Strider Doom teams should mess your uncles one up

Total noob to mvc2… only been playing since its release on psn

but wouldnt captain commandos Anti air assist completely fuck up this strategy, asuming you get up in cables shit. And once sent is out CC’s assist can make him less spammy with his rocket punches.

I only call it Team Noob, because he decided to use that team after discovering that he’d never be good at comboing, not to mention setup/combo artists tend to win more matches than spam/projectile artist. =/

The characters I use are usually Iceman, Cyclops, Cable, Iron Man, War Machine, Blackheart, Silver Samurai, Sentinel, Charlie, Psylocke, and Guile; I may be forgetting a few others, but those who are I USUALLY use, I play with every one though. I can play a pretty good Mag and Storm, but I won’t learn Mag’s rom or many good Storm combos without an arcade stick. =/ I plan on getting one soon, however.

And Titan, thanks for the help I will take you and mkeller’s advice on the optic blast - super obtic blast thing. =)

Jarekov, man, I love you for that. Through all the rage I was too blind to see that Cap Com’s assist will be perfect for me to keep him in a corner while fending off his assists at the same time. Thanks a lot.

Also, Ryan, I see you are from Nap too, we should get together and play some Marvel some time. =D I’ve been looking for Indy friends to play with!

Oh, and I know some of you probably don’t care, but my uncle is a regular here he goes by the name Nairdas I think, some of you might know him? <.<

Now you got it.

This thread is ironic, since I was just using this team last night. The way I see it (and I’m no expert by any means), but Cable/BH/Sent is so ridiculous because you can use the team in any order and go nuts. If I know I’m going against Mag/Storm first, I don’t mess with starting Cable since they’ll basically drop in from on top and eat Cable alive. If I see Sent or Cable, start Cable all day. Anyone else, and you can literally start whoever you want.

Although, Silver Samurai does put a dent in this team…god damn lightning super. >.<

just glad i could help, capcom is pretty solid if you ask me for not being a god tier character, his assist is hands down my favorite in the game… it stuffs everything.

good luck in kicking his ass, i know how hard it sucks in fighting games to have a person whos a wall. Just remember even though mvc2 is a very fast game to stay composed when shit hits the fan:wgrin:.

see above

I was able to start beating him more using everyone’s suggestions, and now my main team is Spiral/Cable/Cap Com, though this will change soon since they are not the most effective team.

Also, Ryan, why did you quote that instead of posting it regularly or was that originally a post made to another player by someone else? <.<

This is a terrible idea unless you DHC away from Cyke or unless the small beam super will kill Cable. Cable can eat the small beam super and AHVB Cyke back. Maybe his uncle won’t be taking hits and doing reversal AHVBs, but it’s a bad habit that will get him killed if he ever plays other people.

Oh… well i quoted it intending to edit it and keep the stuff that referred to me. But then i got lazy and just thought i’d do it like that. And good job taking out your Uncle. Now you need to get down with us and really step your game up. We gonna be playing Monday if you are up for it.

From the sounds of your uncles cable… you could probably just play defensive and bait a bit… and he’d waste his hyperbars… cables love to ahvb… a bit to much sometimes.

Heck I’ve ran into decent cables who are still prone to occasionally mashing their AAA and instantly starting up ahvb w/out hit confirming anything… hell… I’ve seen vids of pro’s playing pro’s and still doing it.

cable/sent/bh is a solid team that has a lot of good matchups. it does well against almost any storm/sent/aa variate. it is pretty good when fighting cable/sent/aa variates. it has a weakness against magneto (or since you say you dont play magneto, any character with good mobility with fast dash, morrigan and wolvie come to mind for low tier, but im sure there is more).

once you snap bh in (which should be the gameplan, unless you got some type of one hit kill setup with a low tier squad), his defense are almost none. he has cable for an anti air, but cable should probably already be at 75% life from the snapout combo and random stuff. if you bait his cable to come out after a snapback, you could kill it or make it unusable (to where he KNOWS cable will die if he calls again).

you dont want to have to fight sent/bh/cable because those are some great assists for sentinel to hide behind, not to mention, if you dont have experience against it, they can do the psuedo trap with sentinel’s rh drones and bh’s assist. if he does this against you, the secret is dashing underneath the rh drones, he will have to start dropping them short, therefore making the trap not work.

something else to make note of in the cable/sent/bh fight is that cable doesn’t have an instnat aa (even if he has sent-a). so that means you can just keep the pressure on him with strings you can relayer. he will have to pushblock and sj out.

key to victory = snapout whoever and kill bh

thats how you kill team scrub, and this fight isn’t much different. bh not being an instant anti air helps magneto to get the snapback easier once he gets in.

Where are you guys playing and what time? I ask, because my phone won’t be back on til Monday, but I don’t know exactly when. =/

And thanks 50 for the advice!

The first team i picked up was team z ( tronne, Dr doom, and Juggernaut ), even at a low level this team is very good and fun as shit, you can slowly pick up stuff like combos and fun combinations of characters and their assists. plus theirs videos to help you out on youtube which is really helpful.

i used this team for a while and learned alot of shit about the game through them and eventually started figuring out other things that would work well. I would say try them out just for fun and watch the videos which are in the video thread.

We’ll be playing on the south side of indy. idk where you live but if you send me a PM here i’ll get it on my email. Let me know whats good!
