A question about DVD authoring

I am trying to make a DVD of a few match video, but I am running into a puzzling problem. I have never done this before, so this might be just the way it is, but I thought I would ask because it seems a bit out of whack to me.

Ok, I have a 4.7gig (Single layer) DVD. I am trying to put about 25 match videos on it, with none of them being over 11MB or so. The thing is, I didn’t want to just throw them on the disc, I want to make an actual DVD out of it, so I started up Roxio MyDVD and started making menus and such. But as I start adding the videos, it’s not going up by the size of the movie, it’s going up quite a bit more.

It came to the point where I had about 8 videos in the program, which I thought should have only been about 88MBs or so. But it was telling me that the disc was half full. So basically it was telling 88MB of video was taking up about 2 gigs of space on the disc.

I thought that seemed kinda odd, so I loaded up Nero, and it did the same thing. Is there something I am missing here? Or is this a normal thing?

Thanks in advance for your help.

to play in a DVD player, the video and audio have to be converted; with standard encoding, you’re looking at about 2.5 hours for a single sided disk. You can change the bitrates with some encoders to put more in, but quality drops pretty hard. THe main thing to remember is, 11MB avi’s, especially Divx/MP3 encoded one, are a LOT bigger when reencoded to DVD’s mpeg2 and audio (AAC? I forget the audio method).

There should be a quality setting somewhere. I had this prob with a diff program before. After I changed it to a lower setting I was able to fit more videos on there. It shouldnt matter that much since your gonna lose quality from converting the your .avi’s already.
