A little fighter I'm working on: Ultimate Head Stompers

Hi all, I’m working on a super simple 2D fighter that is kind of like Dive Kick meets Smash. It’s a 4 player, party fighter with 1 hit kills. The goal is to simply stomp on your opponent’s head to win. To keep it interesting, there is no floor. You can do 5 aerial jumps before you have to touch a wall to reset your jump counter or you will fall to your death. It’s pretty early in development and I’m just looking to get some feedback on it. Here is a link to a gameplay video with a download link in the description http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mjKyKPlhnQ. While it is for PC, you will need a 360 controller to play.

Edit: 360 controller no longer required for single player. However, at least 1 is required for multiplayer.

Why?

As it’s local multiplayer, I haven’t figured out a good way to determine when player 1 is using a keyboard vs using a controller. I do plan to add keyboard support.

Looks fun! The splash effect when a player gets stomped is pretty annoying though. Might be more visually stimulating and fun to have them explode into pixels instead. Maybe you could add a bit more depth by having players be able to charge there jumps by holding a button down. The longer you held it, the higher the jump.

Anyway, good luck with your game!

Added some new graphics and updated hit effects.

Looks way better than divekick

Pitch this for UFGT mystery game tournament!

Thanks for the suggestion. I pitched it to them, but they seemed concerned that it was still unfinished :frowning:

I made a new video though. The menus look a little nicer now.

So I’ve been working on making the characters all play a little differently. Can’t really show that in a video, but I’m also up on Greenlight now, which has a link to a playable version in a browser.

Not only does your game look pretty shoddy even for Newgrounds standards, it completely misses the point of Divekick and you’re expecting people to pay for it.

It also irks me because it costs $100 to put your game onto Greenlight.

If you have any specific criticism, I’d be happy to hear it. UHS also doesn’t really have much to do with Divekick. It wasn’t inspired by it nor is it trying to be like it. It just happens to be somewhat similar so it’s a good way to describe what the game is like.

I’m also curious if you played the demo at all. Visuals aren’t everything and I think it’s pretty fun to play. I also got all good feedback from 2 separate game meetups when it looked like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mjKyKPlhnQ and I think it looks a lot better now. I even got some requests to put it on Steam, which is what I’m trying to do now that it looks much better.
