Let me repeat, in case you guys forgot. I’ll use all the cool things to make it more obvious, because its the central point of why this became a big news story.
Aris said that sexual harassment is an integral part of the Fighting game culture and that it would be ETHICALLY WRONG for him not to harass Super_Yan
I hope the bold, italics, and underline help with that.
It absolutely doesn’t matter if you met him in person and watched him give a gold watch to your grandma. That’s what he said in response to her complaint, and that is ONLY deserving of scorn. In fact, its utterly insane. It’s insane as a joke, there’s no reason to give him a pass on that lame old excuse.
I should add that knowing a person shouldn’t mean you forgive them doing something awful.
PS: Freaking SRK is so crappy today, its hard to get anything to post, so you’ll probably have to do without me for a while
Actually he said sexual harassment (mind you, that you of all people should know he didnt mean “sexual harassment” in the way most people believe the meaning to be) is an integral part of the FGC and that it would be ethically wrong to try and change something that has been an element in the FGC for 15-20 years.
Jus thought I should clear that up. Also he said that in response not to Miranda’s complaint, rather to Jared’s complaint ( more specifically him complaining about people screaming “rape that bitch” to Pheonix in MVC 3).
Your last statement implies that we shouldn’t forgive Aris, really?
You know what I want you to forever live your life in all ways denying the belief that we all make mistakes. Because it seems to me that because its a mistake that offends you more than another one you in your twisted ass mind feel like its less deserving of forgiveness than another one.
Dude I’m gonna jus be straight up, get your head out your stuck up ass and realize who you are. I’ll tell you who you are, you’re nothing special. Just like the rest of us. We’re flawed. And if we’re gonna keep living in this society that continues to become more and more oversensitive, then you’re gonna need to start harboring more capacity for forgiveness towards people.
So you can keep being a bad apple calling other bad apples bad in an attempt to make yourself good in comparison but reality is we’re all bad apples who all make mistakes.
Advice: Go outside, look at the sky or some stars and sht. And realize how small you really are. As for now I’m done with this sht.
Whether or not he cares, xaesie or whater the fuck just likes to look for arguments and pick up Forum wins to boost his ego or some shit. If there is an argument anywhere expect him to be there.
Aris fucked up. He put his foot in his mouth, hurt his own reputation and the FGC reputation.
But I wouldn’t ever want Aris to leave, gods no. He’s always had a passion for the community and adds colorful commentary. I like his humor and style.
He apologized. Superyan is okay. I don’t see the need to keep verbally beating a dead horse anymore, it’s not like he can go back in time and rectify the things he said.
Well this is honestly an issue I care a lot about, my sister has been in a similar situation, and I’ve heard all the shit people are throwing out in defense here.
Beyond that, I’m a compulsive replier, I feel this weird responsibility to reply if somebody posts to me. That’s why my response to people complianing about it is always the same ‘just quit talking to me, I’ll quit talking back’. People NEVER listen though, they just keep posting back to me and then complain about it.
Anyways, I agree with what the guy meant. There’s a lot of “shit talk” in the fighting game community and it’s been going on for a while. Newcomers don’t know about it and get offended too easily.
Where’s the lie in what I said? He did say that harassment is core to the FGC and he said that toning down the harassment would be ETHICALLY WRONG. I had it slightly wrong in that the second part wasn’t explicitly directed at the victim, but otherwise it’s 100% accurate.
Even having dropped discussing the larger issue of sexism, I just don’t see how you can claim calling for accountability on this is lying or especially trolling.
This isn’t about ‘shit talk’ this is about a specific case of sexual harassment followed by both the aggressor AND parts of the community saying there was nothing wrong with it.
You want this to go away? Just admit that he was being fucking awful and his statements at the time are entirely unacceptable.
I wouldn’t even still be arguing with y’all if people would just admit that.
Putting aside the specifics of this, the FGC (or any other community) doesnt get a special free pass when it comes to unacceptable behaviours.
If its inappropriate in normal society, then its inappropriate in the FGC. Sure, its a free country and you can do what you want, and maybe your peers might find it acceptable or even entertaining. But that doesnt make it right, and dont complain if most people revile you for it.
eg. Soccer hooliganism may be a traditional part of soccer fandom, but that doesnt mean we should just go, “oh ok then” when they go on a rampage.
Aris’ main mistake is that he tries to use some BS excuses to justify it. He should have just said, “i know its wrong, but i like it and i will continue regardless.”
Yo, everyone here except a select few know that what Aris did was wrong. Not commenting on his character or something cause i don’t know him, that would be stupid. It’s just that some in the community took offense when the media (well gaming media) started blowing up the FGC making huge generalizations. I didn’t give a fuck, until inkblot started letting that pressure affect his descisions. Why should the whole of the FGC be accused for the actions of a couple of people. If they wanna make rules limiting disrespect (I don’t know where the hell they would get the money to control it but ok) than whatever. But at the end of the day, they went to the extreme way to quickly for something extremely EXTREMELY light. That is what made me worry.
I really disagree with the Evo points being removed, since it punishes other people a lot more than it punishes Marn and ETR. Justin, Online Tony, Floe, Hugo101, so many players put so much effort in, and yet now one comment by someone who wasn’t them has got it all removed from them. How is that fair?
