A.I.M. Labs: M.O.D.O.K. Video Thread

He showed me something interesting about that. Apprently when you opponent is in blockstun from an assist, on a lot of characters that normally won’t have the puddle go over them, the puddle will actually go over them even while standing. Of course, some characters are still too large for this to work. but he showed it go over a standing captain America. I never know that such a thing was possible beforehand.

Here’s the full list of characters that allow cr.M to go over them while in standing blockstun that I posted awhile back.

(lockdown, dash in, hold back for a moment, cr.M, fly, j.L/H) works on:
Akuma, Arthur, Cap, Chun, Dante, Deadpool, Felicia, Firebrand, Frank, Iron Fist, Jill, Phoenix, RR, Ryu, Spencer, Spiderman, Strider, Taskmaster, Viper, Wolverine, X23, Zero
For Ammy, Chris, Hawkeye, Thor: Don’t hold back for a moment.
For VJoe: The high attack pushes him into the low.

cr.M can go over Morrigan, but it’s impossible to get the unblockable. You can get a high -> low with it midscreen, but it isn’t worth it.

Yeah my tech wasn’t working 100% this weekend under the pressure. I should be able to convert off of any time they get hit off of missiles, and micro-adjust any time they push block at weird times. I’ll keep working on my setups to make them unbeatable. I didn’t get a chance to show my fulls screen HPB/missile conversion either. :frowning: Hope I can hit up a runback soon and show you guys.

For the slime over blocking hitboxes I have spreadsheets for who it works on and distance you need to step back. I can try to organize it better for you guys want the data. It works on over half the cast, and it’s a true unblockble. Definitely the way to go.

It was certainly entertaining to watch! Good stuff. And I’m always interested in any Dok tech. Did you have any luck getting the point blank cr.M unblockable working on a standing Morrigan? I couldn’t get it to work the way I wanted it to. And I tend to use j.H instead of j.L for the overhead in those situations. I find that j.H works out better midscreen (so there’s no chance you’ll accidentally IAD over a crouching character). And I’ll be trying to recreate your fullscreen HPB + missile conversion when I get the chance lol.

Thanks! Morrigan is to slim to make it work standing. She’s just a pain… I generally fuzzy her low to set up the unblockable, and even then it’s difficult. For Morrigan or anybody too tall to set up the unblockable, from the end of missiles I’ll call Ammy + 2C xx body splash to fuzzy low with enough time to set up. It beats pushblock too.

One thing to note though is that if someone is mashing pushblock on the ground, you generally get a free unblockable, even on Morrigan (need to retest to confirm).
Pushblock animations make characters duck and push forward, which shifts their hitbox down and forward. During pushblock you can slime over standing Vergil and Dorm’s heads, then they slide back into the low slime while you overhead. It also means you don’t have to adjust your aim, since they push you forward perfectly… so cheap!

Midscreen unblockables I’ll always go for j.A if they’re tall enough, but I forget sometimes and fly over them like you said. :stuck_out_tongue:
j.C is only unblockable after it fuzzies them high and lets you push them into the slime with the dash j.A afterwards. I use that for my corner forward tech roll reset as well.

During the hyper battering ram setup, for people that manage to stay airborne via pushblock, it’s possible to press 5C + Ammy xx battering ram to bring them grounded with enough time for the setup. It’s definitely not a safe way out.
You have to improvise your HBR timing based on your opponent’s behavior, but I’m confident that once it’s mastered there is no chance of escape without XFactor.

back to the lab with me…

Nice! I haven’t tested out pushblock, so that’s good to know. That’s a pretty cool reset you have with j.H as well… I’m going to have to test that out, though I’m not quite sure what you’re trying to say about using j.H for the point blank cr.M unblockable. I notice that using j.H has the low hit first, then the high, while using j.L has the high hit first, then the low for the unblockables. That’s just for the corner though, since midscreen has the highs pushing the opponent into the low. For the IAD j.L going over characters midscreen, I know it’s possible to fix that on at least most characters by jumping back before the IAD, instead of the intuitive jump up.

If they eat the HBR super, how do u convert? HBR U,D,U,D ?

I actually have a team based question regarding that makeup. Do you ever use coldstar assist for combo extensions or is it solely there for lockdown?

REason i ask is because I think Modok/Doom/Ammy shell might be better for me vs a certain opponent who runs Morri/Strange/Doom.

i think modok vs morrigan is pretty even, but if i lose modok having access to THC is just a huge asset.

Thank you for that tip for midscreen! I’m going to to try that tonight. I know sometimes if I wait cold star does it for me, but I never found a reliable method.

For j.C I never use it for corner unblockables, just for fuzzying high and negating pushblock while I airdash them into the slime. Sorry I did a bad job of explaining. Maybe I can make a video since this shit always gets so wordy. :frowning:

Here’s my corner tech roll reset for example though:
The setup is from a corner combo ender - j.psionic blast, airdash Down S for hard knockdown. Full backdash, slime xx fly and wait to see how they tech roll.
Tech forward: j.C (fuzzy high) xx airdash forward (negates pushblock), j.A into the slime to confirm into lower rom.
Tech back: airdash into j.A for confirm.
Neutral Tech: It’s tough to react and make it a perfect unblockable, but most people have trouble neutral teching and blocking low, so low/high is good enough.

To beat hard tag you need to call an assist with the right timing, but I can’t quit make it guaranteed with Ammy (maybe with eye)? I also generally stop using it if someone shows they can wakeup invincible though. Overall it’s pretty good for most of the cast, and it’s the reset I go for if I don’t have meter to set up something better.

For corner unblockables I always go for slime xx j.A. It’s almost always a true unblockable if you get the timing down. I rarely get bad results unless I miss my aim with slime.

If they eat the first hit in the HBR setup, steer the first U/D with lots of delay, then the second U/D much faster, then super jump BB psionic blast, air dash down S, launch j.C psionic blast, air dash down S, ender.
If they get hit at random times in the combo, generally if you just finish the HBR low you can j.A xx S or j.BCS depending on their height.
It doesn’t do much damage, but you gain about 90% of your meter back to do whatever you want for a reset.

I rarely use cold star for combo extensions. It’s there for lockdown and setups mostly. Anytime someone blocks missiles you can lock them into Ammy for free, so that’s her main purpose.
I only use her for extension if doom is dead or I confirm off of a random missiles. It’s very rare that you don’t get to use doom assist in a combo, even if you set up an unblockable off of missiles, you still get to use him as an extension in the combo.

I’m sure there’s awesome optimal stuff out there I’m not taking advantage of though. I haven’t had too much luck with full team combos outside of the corner since Ammy is affected by hitstun scaling. You can do the moons Ammy extension into HBR early in the combo, then go into the baby feet missile extension right afterwards. But with spear flame as a DHC I didn’t find it worth it unless you’re trying to use 3 meters for Haggar or something.

And yeah follow my lead is a good plan B. :stuck_out_tongue:
Though it’s tough to use follow my lead vs. morrigan since she can unfly cancel everything.

Sorry for the wall of text…

Pretty cool kind of reminds me of a skrull setup I did early in Marvel, but Doom/Skrull is pretty weak. (Skrull/doom was better but Id lose the level 3 nut factor)

don’t remember all the modok matches at hadocon, but u can catch hiro rocking dok/dorm/doom at 3:37:21

Here’s my video on the Nova matchup.

I made this about two weeks ago, so I didn’t add as much as I would’ve liked. Namely, I would’ve liked to show how to beat Nova’s box dash or slide + beam assist.

Even though Nova crouches under st.M, (st.M, L blaster) will combo even when Nova is crouching. Thus, you can just do (st.M, L blaster) to punish Nova and the assist, and you can cancel that into HPB into XF if you want to. If Nova decides to box dash instead, you can do a flight cancel on reaction to his jump and either grab Nova if he is close or punish with (j.M, aduf, j.LS) if he is farther away. Both of these options will let you avoid the beam assist.

On an unrelated note, I came up with my own variant on Hitbox Dustin’s HPB + missiles confirm. This is what works for me: (call missiles, HPB, grounded aduf, adf, fly, adf, j.S, etc). On another unrelated note, I’ll be repping Dok at Defend the North next weekend! Hopefully I don’t choke too much lol. I’ll probably be sticking to my Strange teams.

I ran into this guy online a while back who ran a real interesting team of Chris/Dok/Strider. Seems like he frequents the marvel reddit. Found a bunch of his matches in an online tournament.

Time Stamp? Not looking through an hour of low tier heroes for Dok

he is in the majority of the video. if you just pick randomly you’ll find his matches.

I got an hour of casuals streamed at Defend the North by chance. It’s the first hour of the archive. I’m playing Dok/Doom/Strange the whole time, I think.

I also got a tournament match streamed against Coach Steve, but Dok didn’t do anything. It’s at 1:14:14.

So ya I entered a 24-man tournament in Winnipeg, MB, ended up coming in forth. My two games on stream are at 2:15 and 2:36, feel free to let me know what I should work on, I’m pretty happy with my performance all around tho.
