A.I.M. Labs: M.O.D.O.K. Video Thread

just seeing someone pull it off is really inspiring. wonder if he is using flight cancel glitch to get the relaunches on the infinite. (not the relaunch but the jL on first frame)

very awesome play. his skrull is pretty damned good

EDIT: watched a lot of the videos from SSBR5 or whatever and dude, Rubeks leveled up ALOT. his conversions with skurll and spencer were on point most of the time. I was really impressed how he forced synergy. Very creative!

Can MODOK even do the flight-cancel glitch, cause I can defiantly see that’s why Rubeks can do it so consistently. Either way Rubek probably just practice the infinite a lot and got down the timing.

Got 5th at our ranbat/hAZbat last night. The archive footage is up here http://www.twitch.tv/teamhazmat/b/378569060 Watch as I land some of the hardest Dok combos I can do and then drop the easiest Doom/Strider combos =P I promise to level them up in the coming weeks.

I play some casuals before the tournament starting at 5:58:00. to around 6:15:00. First match was against a new guy off stream.

My first streamed match is at 7:13:00 against the guy I was playing casuals against.

My second stream match is around 8:14:00 against my pal Diego (Fizzykups). I feel like I had a few moments to win this set and got some bad execution errors which cost me two of the games. Like a random ragnarok instead of Orbs and a random teleport instead of a bird. But that match was the most fun I had all night as I got the crowd hyped up with some MODOK combos.

Third was around 8:43:30 against Devil May Stride.

4th game was around 9:16:30 against my pal Nam.

Last was at 9:30:00 against my pal Angelic where he pretty much rapes me. I personally think his team is the strongest anti-modok team you can make which he just coincidentally created. I ran into some odd situations that have never happened when we practice together and I failed to capitalize… and subsequently paid the price.

Going to try and really iron out some problem points in my game this week because I think me and a few guys will be competing at a tournament in San Diego next weekend.

Good stuff brainpipe! I was actually watching most of the stream live for dat MODOK lol  It’s good to see that you have that j.H relaunch.

I do have a question though. What are you going for when you call plasma beam, cr.M, H cube midscreen after a knockdown? I know there’s a fairly easy midscreen relaunch with plasma beam (cr.M, L cube or body attack, dash, S, I believe). You can also do j.MH, delay, j.S to make the midscreen relaunch really easy (dash, cr.M, S).

I’m normally just trying to get a F+H after they bounce off the cube. normally when I don’t think I can’t get to the corner for an optimal kill combo I try to do that one to either get a reset in the corner or snap them in the corner. But I was dropping it a lot last night so I’ll try I’ll try some of those other relaunches you mentioned. I remember seeing dire do a body attack one a long time ago but I couldn’t remember what it was. I’ve been so preoccupied with figuring out an optimal corner combo that I I’m still not sure what my best options are midscreen.

On a separate note, my friend Tsumuji has been out in Hawaii on work recently and he ran into a MODOK out there that goes by Slain. He was telling me to try using some specific stuff with cube zoning that he did a lot and it has really improved my ability to rushdown, pressure in the corner and zone while airborne. Getting people to chicken block into a cube so that Strider can pin them for a moment was really flustering a lot of people.

damn all modok guys got goatees and glasses. except flash!

I just want to second what brainpipe said about cubes. They are great at controlling space in a lot of different situations for offense and defense. MODOK has horrible options once people get in close but he honestly does have some good tools to avoid it. Not only can he lame people out in the air but you cant approach MODOK straight forward on the ground or the air cause of slime, cubes and blasters. AND cubes give you combos on hit and access to the super barrier to further complicate things.

I had always forgone using them due to their low durability. I felt like they would always get blown up and not do much so I tended to stick to bombs and blasters. but after reexamining how to space them and use them in conjunction with my assist calls, it feels like it has opened up whole new worlds for modok’s neutral game. particularly in regards to stifling chicken blocking.

Hey guys, I participated in an online Reddit tournament a few days ago, was wondering if I could get some feedback. My matches start at around 42:30 or so, and go until the end of the video. It was online so I dropped quite a lot, hitconfirms were wonky and I went for simple stuff, but I felt my movement was pretty good. Thanks!

The main thing I recommend doing is when a character has XF3…run! Do not bother trying to fight a Sentinel, Vergil, etc. If they burn XF3, and run away let them lose their X-factor. There is no reason to bother to fight them. Just super jump, body attack, body attack, and flight. Even if MODOK dies, you want to reduce the amount of time the opponent has to use x-factor

Not sure how practical this is but it looks hilarious at least.

I’m stealing that lol. I love doing obnoxious combos when I can.

That was hot!

Another video! I finally tried my hand at Dok’s TAC infinites, and came up with consistent ways of getting it started with the up and down TACs in the corner. I have something for the side TAC, but it’s not as good as I’d like it to be. I also included Dok’s XF2 infinite in the video, and a way to go into it solo from an HPB (but this won’t work full screen… you can’t dash after the air series if you want cr.M into the groundbounce to connect). The rest deals with random stuff with Doom and Strange.

Moons coming into his own with this character. Like the meaty unblockable setup and hey he did that tech ostrich just posted at 14:26

Can u provide notations and pointers on how to do the infinite variations?

Also I know this might not be optimized but I think it’s pretty cool looking. Modok with doom missiles and strange eye,
Opener sj mmhs land cr m+ missiles, s, sj mms, land backdash f+h l bomb, f+h sj adf js, land f+h+ eye, qcb+l x3, super

Moons was beasting on predator in that set. His Modok is getting pretty sick now. Im glad that he saw the potential and kept him on the team

Infinite: j.MH, L cube, up, j.MMH, L cube, up, j.MMH, L cube, j.H, delay, adf, j.LM
Down starter: addf, fly, j.H, L cube, (j.MH, L cube)x2, j.H, delay, adf, j.LM
Up starter: addf, j.H (whiffs), L bomb, j.H, L cube, j.M, fly, (j.MH, L cube)x3, j.H, delay, adf, j.LM
Side starter: cross up j.H, delay, L cube, j.LM, L blaster, addf, j.MH, L cube, fly, (j.MH, L cube)x3, j.H, delay, adf, j.LM

For each of these, I’m neglecting notations for being at the right height. The right height for the j.H, delay, adf, j.LM, into the infinite is when the bottom of MODOK’s blue flame is just above the ground. You can control height by moving slightly between the j.MH, L cube reps and by adding an extra j.M to float the opponent higher. For the down starter, you typically only need to move slightly downwards between one the reps. For the side starter, you typically need to move down forwards between two of the reps. For the up starter, you typically need to move down after two or all three of the reps.

The up and down starters are pretty consistent. The down one is because it is fairly simple, and I believe the up one is because, to my understanding, bombs send opponents into a soft knockdown spinning state where everyone falls down at the same rate. That’s just a guess though, but it definitely works better than using blasters to move downwards, since different characters will fall at different rates in that situation. Speaking of which, this is also why I don’t really like the side TAC starter, since it is not as consistent as I’d like it to be.

And I guess that combo would be optimal after an anti air confirm from full screen. I’d probably go for a reset in that situation or jamming bomb into snap in that situation, if I can’t kill.

Moons winning zoned out.

Just picked up Dok this week, playing Haggar/Dok/Skrull (was playing Chun-li in the second slot before)

First i gotta shoutout LTP your guide has helped me alot!

This is what i’ve figured out so far!

I’ve noticed that i get two balloon bombs after the haggar assist, but that was after i recorded this!
