Learn terms like frame data, hitbox (not the controller), mix up, okizeme, and punish. Also cancels, chains, links, hit stun/block stun, footsies, spacing, and zoning.

Notations can be game specific. Games like Street Fighter are usually notated in a way such as cr.strong(medium punch)xxqcf+fierce (heavy punch), whereas most “anime” games (guilty gear, blazblue, etc) the directions refer to the number pad on a keyboard, so a fireball motion would be 236P. Tekken’s buttons are notated as numbers so a forward forward left punch move would be “ff2”.

This is the main one, you can try eventhubs or various subReddits, if you’re looking for local comp (you should be) try searching Facebook for groups in your area.

There’s locals and other majors literally all over the country. I THINK Facebook would be your best bet to find out about those, though you can look in the matchmaking sections of Shoryuken to see if there’s any postings in your area to get started.

It’s really a good idea to let losses make you angry enough to want to get better, but not so much that you just rage out. Embrace the competitive spirit and let it motivate you. Watch tons of videos.

Basically The motivation has to come from within.
