Please forgive me various typos in previous posts, as I had typed those out on my iphone and that shit sucks.
@lil666 I got your text but it is hella late so instead of texting you back I will reply here - The tournament will be round robin. In the event that there is a ridiculous amount of players attending the qualifying event we will attempt to save time by setting up 4 pools in which the top 2 players from each pool will form a top 8. This will only happen if we feel that there are too many players to do a huge round robin and the number is big enough to justify 4 pools. The top 8 will then reset and those 8 players will then again do a round robin.
The top 4 of this top 8 will then be on the team. Please remember there is a max of two character doubles on the team. This most likely will not be a problem. However if it does we shall discuss this scenario now:
Pretend the events top 8 looks like this:
Ryu
Boxer 1
Boxer 2
Boxer 3
Rufus
Gief
Guile
Honda
The top 4 is obviously a problem where there are 3 boxers. Unfortunately the 3rd boxer is not eligible to qualify for that spot. He is not allowed to switch characters. This means he does not make the cut and his top 4 results do not matter. The 5th place spot was a Rufus player. Due to #4 being ineligible to play on the team #5 will fill his place on the team.
Taking two from each pool and resetting the top 8 will result in the best possible outcome as it greatly reduces unlucky seeding, bad match ups, etc. I have not done that math as I am lazy - hopefully everything will work out conviniently and we’ll get a top 8 from this however I am sure there is a narrow possibility of having people tie - however, we’ll settle those with FT5 or something if this occurs.
Redundancies on redundancies.
Remember: We are only doing pools if more people than expected show up to this event. Bay Area regions have had up to 16 players pop in to their qualifiers. However, I am going to make sure we have a plan in case we double other regions’ attendance.
This is still open for people from Reno to come down and compete for spots, yes?
If so, I’d like to know exactly how this is going to be run and how long it’s expected to take. Futurechamp wants to come down and compete for a spot but needs to leave at 7PM at the latest.
The big thread has Davis/Sac/Reno listed as one region, so I guess yeah, you’re free to come down and qualify.
Not sure if the whole thing can be done in 5 hours, though. Ideally the final 8 round robin would be as many sets as possible to ensure that the best players come out on top.
So it’s guaranteed to be some kind of round-robin format now or is it just round-robin if there’s a small number of entries?
If it’s RR would it be possible to have our matches be played first or ASAP?
(Looks like there’s some kind of final RR or something. I’m only expecting one or maybe two of us to make it to that should that be the case. Not saying who for my own safety.)
Hrmm… Do I want to fight balrogs and honda’s till my eyes start bleeding on a Saturday afternoon. Decisions decisions. I’d rather just fight the team captain… He’s free in tourney ?_?
There is a FFA round robin if there are a small to mid range amount of players at this event. If the numbers of entries are too high we will set up four pools with 2 spots of each pool qualifying out. At that point we will reset the top 8 round robin.
This will almost surely take forever. We may get kicked out of droms and need to finish the qualifiers at my own house.
Mike, I wont’ really be able to be there tomorrow except to open and setup for a short time. Mekye will be there running the store. I’ve got to paint 5 apartments this weekend…
