i like a2 over a3, but probably due to the lack of exposure to a3. however i agree and know enough about both games to know they’re completely different animals.
psx: what’s the news on the st cab? did they find your board?
When I spoke with Justin in person about 2 weeks back I had mentioned to him the ST he said they would look for it and install it. It’s a Japanese CPS B board and A board kit donated when Watts first arrived in Hawaii. I think it got replaced by Snk vs Capcom.
Derek: Can you remind Justin that ST would be nice to have at Brians again. Or even Vampire Savior (darkstalkers series) something I know Brian’s used to have.
Derek/Pretzels: Can you ask Justin if they have Vampire Savior in stock still? If not I would be willing to purchase one and lend it to Brian’s if there willing to install it on one of there cabinets. Can you let me know if Justin’s ok with the idea? I will purchase the board tomorrow and hopefully have it by Monday. If hes ok with that I could also purchase an Alpha 2 board.
There was a bunch of V.S machines on Oahu. I remember the first location to get V.S was Tilt at Pealridge. I used to catch the bus there on the weekends to play it. it was on a medium size cabinet and had a good amount of people playing the game. HBB also had the game on a big screen but its popularity was hurt because at the time everyone was playing Xmen vs Sf / Marvel vs SF. A few other places like Market City Fun Factory had the game also.
If Justin is ok with the idea then I will order it asap just to have something new at Brians to play.
It sure beats only having GGPO and PS2 Darkstalkers Collections as my options right now to play it.
Update: Derek informed me that Brians may have Alpha 2 but doubts they have Vampire Savior.
I plan to order a Vampire Savior on Saturday. Im going to purchase the A and B board under the assumption that Hawaiian Brians does not have the A board. Hopefully if everything goes as planned I will have the game before Friday of next week and in Justin and Hbbs hands.
Nismor: Good news I got the kickharness in the mail today for the mvc2 cabinet.
I’m wondering if you guys use the RSS feed on the page with your personal scores on it. This is some research I’m conducting for a project I’m working on.
I ordered the board late last night from Arcade Shock. Its a complete B kit comes with B board . For those that don’t know the B board = the game and the A board = Motherboard to run all CPS2 games. I am going under the assumption that HBB can provide the A board as they have a slow of CPS2 games that come with A boards. The kit comes with B board, the large marquee, etc. More details on the kit below.
I am expecting to get it on Friday as shipping says 3-5 days.
Derek: One small request. I know Justin said it was cool to install Vampire Savior. Could you ask him if he could pull one of these boards to go with the Vampire Savior.
Brian’s should have a lot of those in storage as all there CPS2 games will run off that board. The boards name is CPS2 “A” board. I will have the Vampire Savior kit this Friday for Justin to view.
Yea no problem with getting things moving. The kit costed about $240 +50 with express shipping to hawaii for a total of about $290. The hard part was just getting a hold of Justin and making sure it was cool with him to do this etc, etc.
I spoke with Justin about 2 hours ago on the phone. I asked about droping the board off tonight and he informed me he might not be in but to leave it with management for him in the morning.
I inquired about how long it would take to install the game and have it up and running and he informed he could have it done by tomorrow (Sat). I also asked about what cabinet it would be installed in and he informed me it would be either a head to head or showcase cabinet. ( delux cab used for cvs2,mvc2 etc).
Also on a side note dont be surprised to see Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition installed at Hawaiian Brians tonight. Justin informed he needed to have a cabinet installed to HBB and mentioned installing SF2 CE. I got a feeling its SF2 CE rainbow edition.
If everything goes smooth with Vampire Savior , I would like to do Street Fighter Alpha 2 or something else if the cost is reasonable.
Why would Justin “need” to have CE installed? (That’s a bit strange.) And rainbow edition …
Anyhow, wow that’s a bit pricey for an old game like VS. I’m gonna have to compensate a part of it next time I see you. I’m not sure how much you’re expecting from me so I’m gonna check in with you next time I see you around. No worries though.
I’ll probably head down sometime next week so just notify me when you’re coming down either here or through PM. Thanks Matt.
Edit: Oh and also, this game needs to be one token. Aside from the unfamiliarity of it discouraging ppl to play, the game ends much too quickly for it to be two tokens or more.
I think it had to due with wanting to remove that cabinet from the warehouse. He mentioned needing to have it installed and the choices he had were Champion Edition or Metal Slug. I asked if there were any other options and he said no. As for rainbow edition I can’t confirm that but the last time Brians had C.E installed about 3 years ago it was a rainbow edition version where the power stone 2 used to be.
The kit was a bit more for a cps2 game thats been out for about 10 years because it was a brand new kit. I bought it from arcade shock. The kit is linked below with pricing and contents. I spoke with Vinh the owner of arcade shock and was informed that the suicide battery was replaced and shouldn’t be an issue. There was a used kit for sale thru gamegod.com ( Fun Factory) for about $100 but when I called they couldn’t assure me the kit was still working and sold as is with suicide battery not being changed. So rather then risk having a suicide board thats ready to die I went with a new kit.
Used CPS2 game prices vary on rarity. For the most part you can buy most CPS2 games with Phoenix (suicide battery removed) installed for about $199. The more rare the game will translate to a higher price. Super Turbo does not show up on Ebay often and is a bit pricey. I purchased a new Super Turbo for HBB when Watts came for about $150. The cheapest I seen ST on ebay in the past few weeks is around $200 used + shipping.
You would hate to know what KOF 98 Ultimate +Taito hardware is going to cost. Another alternative could be buying from coinopexpress as there prices are very good but the problem is the shipping from Hong Kong to Hawaii might be pricey. If anyone knows a good alternative let me know. For now my sources are Arcade Shock, Shoryuken.com Buy/Trade/Sell forums, and ebay.
As for chipping in I am not to worried about it. If people want to donate then thats cool but I bought the kit with the assumption that no one would. So if anyone does not want to it don’t bother me much. I just wanted something new to play. I go to HBB and just go thru the motions on CVS2 and get bored easily so its nice to have something new to do at HBB.
I should be there a bit more now that Vampire Savior is getting installed.
I can’t promise anything on pricing but I will see if Justin can hear out my suggestion. I’m going to pitch 1 token = Start and Continue and explain the speed of the game etc to him. Not much I can do other then try to voice my opinion and see what Justin says.
Just spoke with Justin and he informed me that the games been wired and finished. Hes currently moving it to HBBs game area. The game is currently on a single NEO 29 cabinet. Hes looking to clean up the wiring on the CVS2 (extra cabinet) and remove the token plate and move Vampire Savior to there later this week. But wanted to have this game up and running asap so for a few days it will be in a single Neo 29 cabinet.
Pricing… Justin was very cool and went with the 1 token to start and continue pricing. He informed me the sounds etc everything work fine on the cabient its in now and he will let me know when Vampire Savior is moved to the big screen cvs2 cabinet this week.
Good question… I don’t know. I donated the ST board around 2002 to HBB before Watts arrived the first time. When I left for California I was informed the board got removed. When I returned and asked for it to be installed again it was done. Around the time the cabinet became a Snk vs Capcom the game was removed and put in the Soul Cal cabinet. After the Soul Cal cabinet with ST disapeared I got no clue. They told me they got it somewhere in inventory and have to look for it.
