"66% of Capcom doesn't think continuing SF is a good idea" - Ono interview

Sure, I see what you are saying man.

I hope that all of what I posted comes with the understood caveat that I’m still a new player by SRK standards. I only started going to tourneys recently, and while I’m doing my best to learn everything that I can, and I’m working really hard to get solid…I know I have SOOOOO much to learn.

:china:

Actually, the folks at the old 1UP (I think it was Milkman and everyone who was good at Super Turbo) got interviews with Ono and the development team a few times during the production of SFIV and HD Remix, and made a few suggestions after playing early builds that the SFIV team ended up implementing. If I remember correctly it was how they should properly implement revenge meter, and comments about the hit detection that cemented the decision to switch to 2D hitboxes.

Capcom doesn’t give two shits about what the players want, they’re a bunch of suits trying to run a video game empire. The same can’t be said for the development team, which is run by a much more passionate bunch of fellows.

Parabellum…your post was still rather thurough at showing that Dictator does have options for most situations and that is why he is a solid mid tier. He’s never SOL if you know what that stands for. He’s just not good at making other characters SOL and I think that’s why he is usually dropped for a more “hype” character that can truly take rounds and matches on a dime’s notice.

Yeah, I think your reasoning on why he gets set aside in favor of characters with bigger comeback potential (sagat roundhouse ultra juggle, boxer going from jab to headbutt ultra, ryu with dp juggle, etc…) is probably 100% correct.

:china:

I would assume the budget of SF4 eclipsed Bionic Commando by a wide margin.

Watching the videos just helps to prove my point more. Solid pressure but Dictator had to force a ton of mistakes out of Ryu. So technically mentally SpiderTao was winning for a long time during the fight. The problem was Ryu was given a bunch of time to still comeback and win off of just doing a few things right after SpiderTao was done doing a TON of things right. If a character like Gief, Akuma, Viper or Rufus forced that many mistakes out of Laugh’s Ryu they would have already won 2 matches in a row.

Not to mention Fighting Games were a genre somewhat on life support, it was harder to know how well it would be received.

One thing I don’t believe is that Capcom really has any large contingent against the game, why publicize that? I think it’s more just a thing to toss out there to keep people talking. Seth also said an interview, “You haven’t seen the last of Street Fighter”, so while he could very well be part of that 34% that is in favor, I kind of don’t buy the statistic.

Yeah probably (almost certainly) so…which does enforce your point about why people pass over Dictator in favor of those other characters.

I did have a ??? in my head about Viper though. I know she dishes out a ton of stun, but is she really in the same class as Gief/Akuma/Rufus in terms of punishing mistakes with ridiculous damage?

My local set has no viper players (one guy is learning her but he isn’t there yet)…so this is a matchup (along with Gen and ELF) that I hardly ever get to work on.

Hp Ex seismo sjc BK into ULTRA

Since a potential SF4 Dash will just be an upgrade, not really a continuation and neither SF4 or that game actually take place after the events of SF3, change 66% to 100%. SF’s not really continuing. :clown:

J/k SF4 is my favorite game in the series and I will be sure to buy another. :lovin:

I mean you can just go into training mode and set it up. Well…you have to know how to do Viper’s more advanced combos too. Not as many people mess with Viper in the US as they would simply because of the execution required to do her high damage stuff. Once you get the execution down it’s pretty much if you touch the person you can set them up for high damage.

Like take this scenario. You’re a Chun Li player and I’m Viper. You’re beating the crap out of me with 2 or 3 combos into EX legs and I’m down to 30 percent health. You are trying to zone me with your pokes and decide to throw one fireball to mix things up. I react to this and super jump reactively over the fireball and hit you with j.HK, c.HP, EX seismo then SJC FADC (no meter focus cancel) into Ultra. With one EX meter (and a full ultra meter from taking all that damage) I take your Chun Li down to the exact same health. That’s right…one mistake and I bring you down 70 percent. Crazy but true. If I only had half of my Ultra meter full I still would have taken nearly 60 percent off of you. Even on buff health characters like Rufus or Sagat they are still guaranteed to lose 55 to 60 percent.

The only character that is never afraid of Viper’s damage output is Gief since he negates the majority of ways Viper is able to land her big damage (well he does that to most of the cast actually that’s why he’s ridiculous). Luckily Viper’s seismo zoning and AA game is strong enough to keep Gief out for long period of time and she can play the Dictator style health lead game against him. If she didn’t have that the match would be ridiculously difficult.

Wow shit…yeah…I knew she had some good options, but that is very good right there.

SJC FADC

can you point me to where that is explained properly please.

ps
sod it, this idea can slip in here.
in next sf how about custom training regime?

you set up a list of moves and a number of repetitions.
it then works the same way as the combo trials (but with your own combos)
that would be much better for me to practice.

Kinda comes with being a charge character. Look at honda or balrog.
Out of those, I like watching him the most.

The Viper forums don’t have every single strategy outlined obviously but the idea is basically cancelling your focus cancel off of a super jump. Meaning you need to do it off of an attack that can be super jump cancelled AND focus cancelled (most of Viper’s grounded normals and her seismos). The AND part is where people mess up cuz they think just cuz they can focus cancel a move it means they can SJC FADC it. So even if you hit someone with a MP seismo you can SJC FADC afterwards since seismo can be both super jump cancelled and focus cancelled. So with that ability you put both cancels into one and it tricks the game into thinking you are super jumping instead of focus dashing. Yeah you still get a dash forward (slower than a focus dash but quick enough) and can Ultra.

So the idea is basically do a move that you can super jump AND focus cancel afterwards (seismo/EX seismo/most ground normals) then do a super jump then while you are still grounded during the super jump motion do a focus dash. Which tricks the game into thinking you are only super jumping so the dash is registered as a regular dash and costs no meter.

The command can be done as d,u+MP+MK, dash or d,uf+MP+MK then hit f again to dash.

Yeah I mean he’s no Guile (the only thing I like about watching him is when he backbreaks people) but overall he’s just spamming the same low damage stuff on people creating knockdown after knockdown. He’s just not exciting or varied enough for me. His pressure is either normal spamming or random cross up into more normal spamming into low damage bnb. Just don’t got that umph that I like. His Ultra looks wicked cool but he never gets to use it so that takes some of the hype away for me too.

66%?! You Kidding me? I say we start a petition or start sending mass e-mails to capcom stating that we want more street fighter games.

Ugh…I remember when people did petitions in the past to try to get Capcom to fix the dropping issues in CVS2 EO online. 2004. What a good year.

I say the best thing to do is just post on Capcom’s forums if you really want to get heard that badly. If anything the less hardcores (who still post hella much on GFaqs and Capcom forums) are doing the work for us. It wouldn’t hurt but…you have to remember it took less of a percentage for Capcom to make SFIV in the first place. Obviously we don’t need a 100 percent of Capcom approving of SFIV or SFIV would have forever been a distant thought. Let the sales and scrubs do the work for us.

Skullomania for SF4 Dash.

^^^ Oh lord yes, I second that!

fuck dat, Canadian Street Fighter, and that bear that Sagat/Gief fucked up. Maybe Oro too (since he can be in the game and it won’t fuck up the timeline)
