(604) BC players, marvel/cvs2/third strike tournament thread!

LOL japanese sticks suck

that fucking idiot who wrote the article was just making excuses cuz he lost

japanese sticks are SHIT
PERIOD

ESPECIALLY for playing third strike. i admit, playing anything other than P groove and marvel, japanese sticks are fucking tight as fuck. but P groove NEEDS precise timing. and japanese sticks don’t feature that. simply because you need to reset the stick into neutral MANUALLY

that jackass just went to explain everything that’s different about the japanese playing style INCLUDING the so called hardware. bottom line, when the japanese players went to nebraska, they said that AMERICAN sticks are the superior when playing third strike, SIMPLY due to the reason as stated above. american sticks (the proper kind) when pushed to one direction IMMEDIATELY spring back to neutral when force is no longer applied. NOW, there’s some shitty sticks out there where after they reset back to neutral, they press back… so if you press down, and let it go, it goes into superjump. i’ve played on those before in toronto are believe me… the SUCK. however, the ones at johnny zee’s, if you parry down, you DO NOT high jump. which makes it IDEAL for playing third strike.

LOL don’t think back to the console tourney sooo many years ago. frankly, you were the only players that were somewhat used to japanese sticks… no one else there was.

while true, the small balls result in less time to imput an action. the difference in time from highblock into low block is substantial. while american sticks are circular in motion, japanese sticks have a box set motion meaning… well… far greater distance.

tariq, lol that article is OLD news… that guy who went to japan’s views are OLD

console tournies are hella gay… if you wanna play on jap sticks, still go to an arcade… lester’s has jap sticks and so does space rush in richmond. we’ll all go play there.

in reality, bottom line is that whichever stick you first use, you’ll like it more so yeah…

i personally do NOT like jap sticks. they’re TOO loose. same thing with the buttons (well the ones that i have played).

i feel that I have more control with american sticks, but that’s just me i guess.

nah, its not just you… i find American sticks to have better control as well… im sure the majority of BC does as well.

It depends on what you practice on. I have an Agetec so I love playing on jap sticks. I actually like the looseness as opposed to you guys

i like loose sticks too. but i also find control much easier on american sticks. i especially like the sticks on the 3rdStrike cab @ movieland.

regarding console tournies, i don’t care about the other games, but if you’re gonna wanna have a console tourney for 3rdStrike, that = :lame:

3rdStrike on DC isn’t arcade perfect. there’s some significant lag on moves. only reason i’d play 3rdStrike on DC is 'cuz you get more colors for the characters .

jzee’s on monday afternoon!!! between 5 and 6.

RedTide, i wanna play you for money since you said all Alvin plays against are scrubs. i’m a scrub.

Agetek.

i tried Jap sticks, but it took me lots of hours before i got used to it. I dont’ mind Jap sticks. Once i got used to it, i kinda forgot how to use the American sticks, and i had to get use to the American sticks again… But i still prefer American sticks because i practice with it and i started using it.

haha! LOL! you ain’t scrub MIGUEL? if you’re talking about scrub, then that’s REDTIDE! he does Shoryuken from nowhere… lol!

it’s ok REDTIDE, i’ll teach you KEN… just emulate PONTI, he’s getting better with YUN. You’ll be Above-Average-Scrub when you start getting the feeling for KEN and getting wins from other scrubs

My friend who plays the really awesome guy on the East coast told me this stuff about Ken and gameplay in general:

  • parry low is when you’re waking up… or when you see them dash in towards you… if you see them dash, and they don’t end up adjacent to you, 90% of the time, a low attack is coming right when the dash ends.

-another time is when you jump in towards them, but don’t land on them, instead you land just inside their sweep range… then parry low right away

-crossup mk, dash back, c. mk->super is actually pretty hard… the dash has to come out right away or else you’ll get hit. but it’s so useful.

-another form of the bait out parry is you do something that you know can’t be punished, but it looks like it can be… like if you do a dp right outside their range so they have to walk up a bit and then c. mk… then you can parry low and crush them again

-dash back options:

  1. after crossup mk (blocked), dash back, c. mk->super (will beat ANYTHING they try to do) except dp.
  2. on wakeup, dash back, c. mk->super will beat the same things.

-after a you do a blocked crossup mk, you can throw, dp, c. lk-> tick throw, dash back c. mk->super

-throw stuff

  1. when they’re waking up, throw
  2. when they’re waking up, c. lk (blocked) -> throw (tick throw)
  3. when they’re waking up, walk back a few steps then walk forward and throw (zone throw… it’ll beat them if they’re trying to tech throw you on their wakeup… you’ll actually see their throw come out and whiff.

That’s about everything he told me.

I was referring to the Akuma scrubs actually

Anyway, I suck worse at 3S than Alvin sucks at Marvel.

haha

well i see ive garnered quite a response hah either way tho, in the ends its not what stick is in use so much as to who is using it, you guys can do your combos on american sticks, i can do my combos on japanese sticks if we switch sticks we will be in trouble but if we use our own sticks we will be fine, the worst is whiffing combos and moves in high level play because you cant use the damn stick im sure everyone has gone thru that

case in point

i have noticed doing tackle combos is easier on american sticks, and on the arcade it seems as if everything slows down and u have more time to charge, rather when i play the dc version its fast

again theres no proof behind that its just somethin i noticed while playing if anyone can verify…

and i kno kal el mentioned there are probs with the dc version

parrying times differ on the DC than on the Arcade… the DC isnt arcade perfect… lets just hope the XBOX LIVE Version is… (or they make a patch to make it arcade perfect or some shit like that)… anyways, yeah, i got an interview at a place… so when i get the job, ill play for money against you Tariq! hah, then we will see who’s “scared” =D j/k

FEAR NUT GRABBING MAKOTO hahahah

RedTide and ponti:

time for you 2 to change your avatars,. marvel’s dead. and ponti, that Ken you have is a chibi of the Alpha Ken. not 3rdStrike Ken. so get rid of it :p.

Tariq:

i’m fine with either Japanese sticks or American sticks. just that American sticks are my preference. but my execution is roughly the same with both. the last time i played 3rdStrike on DC was like, over 2 years ago though. all i knew were Shotos . you should go to JZee’s this Monday. between 5 and 6. i’ll play you.

avatar change comin up once zenpuken’s done with it

haha yeah redtide’s random shoryukens are funny lol. we should learn third strike together man haha it’ll be tight. we got pretty good comp here in bc so we should be able to get pretty good if we practice enough.

and that shit that your friend posted doesn’t work against alvin haha i parry low on wake up
and he NEVER throws out a low attack.

Im learning 3S too yea!!!
But u can’t forget about marvel no way man that game is too fun
I tried switching from my agetec to superluu’s ghetto homemade stick at his house and i couldn’t even do a super cuz the buttons were so dam far away hahaha
I find it much easier to do uppercut on american sticks than jap sticks so hopefully i still remember how to use them and i can actually do midscreen genei-jin instead of finding a way to push u in the corner lol
Last time i played marvel on american sticks wuz on chq and when i try to do rom infinite i always dash down instead of down/f but the jap IM setup is easier on american sticks too i think

Woot I might be able to make it on monday
we’ll see:D

I need a higher paying job :frowning:

Here u go ponti

i will blame my bc loss to tao on the jap sticks… j/k

(but it’s true though… wtf is wrong with the button layout? and the sticks are little balls on little sticks… it’s seriously weird to play on…)

ponti & RedTide:

parrying on wake up (whether it’s high or low) is not really a reliable (or smart) thing to do. if your opponent plays a pattern-based game, then parry all you want . but if he’s like Alvin, you’re better off blocking on wake up. if you guys watch high-level play, you’ll see that hardly anyone parries on wake up. parry-happy people can seem impressive and difficult as hell to beat, but once you learn anti-parry tricks, they’re the ones who lose most often.

basically, parry if 1) your opponent does the same stuff over and over 2) if the reward outweighs the risk and 3) if you’re down to nothing and your opponent is gonna cheese you .

hey REDTIDE, about that tips for KEN, those are classics tactics, good stuff;)… PONTI and REDTIDE, you guys better listen to MIGUEL.

Done mig:cool:

thanks tony
