Looks like we have a venue right off of 95 w/ plenty of hotels this shit is gonna be hype. Got area for a projector and will prolly record or have a live feed since it has free wifi. Spread the word to try and get out of towners in. More details to come. This is a strictly non-smoking environment though. 500 dollar fine if someone does smoke. There is a full bar so alcohol is allowed but we reserve the right to remove you from the grounds if your out of hand. More detalis to come from Renegade :). We will be using a rockband 2 instrument to test all tvs too. Right now looks like will have about 10 to 15 set ups of lag free fun :)!!!

Rockband 2 test is based on an individuals response time. The best way to do this is to obtain a lagless TV that has VGA in and a computer that can output to two machines and run a stopwatch program that shows milliseconds. The lagless TV will show the actual stopwatch time and the other TV will show the delay that TV has in milliseconds.

Don’t do the Rockband 2 test. It’s based on your reaction time. Hook up two TVs to a computer: one you know does not lag, and one you want to test. Run a stopwatch program. Figure out the difference between the two in milliseconds, that’s how much lag is on the other TV.

17 milliseconds = 1 frame of lag

34 milliseconds = 2 frames of lag. This is when people who pay attention start to notice lag. Most players won’t even realize it’s lagging. Up to 34 frames is acceptable. If you’re blaming 2 frames of lag for your loss then you’d probably lose even if there was no lag.

Any more than that and I would say the TV is unusable.

Rockband 2 test (with rockband 2 instruments) is automatically done. No reaction time or anything.

Sorry you’re right, I’m thinking the Guitar Hero 2 one, which is delay in milliseconds from when a button shows up on screen and you push it.

The New Definitive HDTV Lag FAQ

You have to have a Rock Band 2 guitar and the game. The guitar has a small optical sensor in it. You hold the guitar up to the TV and the screen flashes white multiple times.
The game then checks the time difference between when it flashed white on the screen and when the guitar sends a signal to the console saying “hey, I saw the screen flash white”.

The Rock Band test takes measurements and then averages whatever variances it sees. So in theory, you could have a set that fluctuated wildly in lag but gives you a lower number than the worst case. With a CRT test you take individual measurements and it will show high/low numbers for each picture.

It’s not as good as doing the CRT monitor test, but for most people it’s going to be fine. The most important thing to remember is
A) You should do multiple tests (at least three, but ideally as many as you can stand)
B) A good set should consistently test well under 16ms of lag (16ms = 1 frame). Anything 6 ms or less is golden, anything close to 16 or higher becomes questionable.

If people can actually feel 34ms of lag then that’s pretty spectacular on their behalf, but obviously less is better.

Hav is right. Sf4 is slower than cvs2. Slow walking speed, low damage, no jump distance, short ranged pokes etc. BUT it’s still a good game. Just different than what we’re used to playing. The only problem with it is that it’s just to easy mode with some stuff like inputs and other system based mechanics. As far as cvs2 offensiveness goes, don’t you guys remember wc/japan n-groove cvs2 early on? So it wasn’t ALL turtle friendly.

About the tourney, will there be enough SDTV’s/pc monitors to play on?? I’d rather play on one of those than an hdtv. HDR team tourney??

Yes, there will be but I tested out two TVS today with the rock band 2 lag test. My Emerson from Walmart on 3 different tests tested on average 4 milliseconds of lag. Impossible to notice by the human eye. This is less than one frame. The Samsung with game mode however tested with 1.5 frames of lag. So it will be easy for us to get TV’s with 1 frame or less of lag. So far we should be good. Remember though, bringing a whole set up will get you into the venue for free.
