I think this needn’t be such a huge issue. Everyone is fighting over what exactly, the chance to get bodied? This is unofficial anyway, so does it really matter who is team WC? It seems sort of pointless to have a million separate tournies for 5 spots that no one is going to agree on in the end anyway. Furthermore, it seems like most of proposed teams WC are based on chemistry/comradery with little overlap, while the EC team we’re for the most part just going to send who we think are our 5 best. This is similar to the difference in sbo qualifiers for 3s even, in the way that the ec/wc teams were chosen differently in the past couple years. So why not go a similar route?
All your teams just play team EC, and pay $100 a person. These don’t all have to be in a row, I dont think there would be more than 5 WC teams, so I think 5 5v5s is doable with the current evo schedule, especially considering most players should have already qualified for their respective pool games come evo. How long does a 5on5 take anyway? Shouldn’t be more than 2 hrs right, thats 10 hrs of mvc2 over 3 days? Shit that’s easy, I PLAY 10 HOURS A DAY!!
Jokes aside, I think this should be doable, especially if we cut down on the first to 10 and first 7 money matches. Imo this would be more interesting and entertaining than those, and eliminates a lot of the problems. And I know this runs contrary to preppy saying I dont want to see a random 5 vs the team from EC, but I don’t think any team willing to put up money will really get bodied any worse than any other team from WC. This gives incentive to players actually forming a team that they believe can win. There’s tons of players on WC that are comparable in skill level anyway, and its pretty hard to justify one team being better than the others anyway
The amount could be lowered to 50, but I think 100 is better. I mean most of the WC players will only have to put up the money once, which is good for them since they’re underdogs anyway, while the EC team, who are pretty objectively the favorites, probably won’t have much problem putting the money up more than once.
Basically, if your team wants to play, play for real. We know that most likely this isn’t going to get up on the big screen, and who really cares when Preppy is going to record it anyway. We can agree right now to just say f the bigscreen, f waiting for people to tell us we might get up there and wasting time, and all that stuff. If you really think your team can win, put your money up. I think if you aren’t willing to put that up then you are going to be a waste of time on the team anyway. You have 6 months to save 100 bucks, you could save all this money that you’re spending on tournies to try and get on your team anyway and put it towards that.
Personally I think the only rule should be, if you’re going to be on one of the teams WC you can be on one only, maybe two at the most, otherwise it’d definitely get a bit out of hand. And maybe if you are going to be on a 2nd team, perhaps that whole team should have played once already, I think it’d run contrary to this idea if you just float a couple people back and forth on every 5 man team plus give an unfair advantage beyond the fact that every team beyond the first will have the benefit of watching Team EC play prior.
So yea, thats my suggestion, basically let the EC Globetrotters just play their 5 (give them maybe 2 alternates at most), decide on maybe 5 teams from WC, and put your money up. Just throwing it out there.
