3SOE dead?

Honestly I think 3S is dead because of the community and a shitty port. It’s easy to blame 3SOE, it really is easy to do that. But I think the community shares a lot of that blame. Not so much because of the reaction to the port but the reaction to new people and (again) elitism.

This is how I look at it:

3S is a hard fucking game. Why is it hard? A combination of radically different play styles from player to player, parries, and Chun/Yun being top and very difficult to understand how to beat. Along with other matchups of course but Chun/Yun are the elephant in the room.

New players can wrap their heads around a Hugo that turtles or Makoto’s TOD but Chun/Yun can be difficult as fuck and a lot of them ask for help. Communities’ response to this tends to be of the ‘deal with it’ kind of answer and becomes more vulgar and wigger-ish from there.

New players don’t want to pick Ken or Dudley to stand a chance against Chun/Yun because they feel those characters are overused and want to follow their muse and pick a character they like. Communities’ response is again ‘too bad so sad, get used to it’ with some sort of shout out to So Cal is thrown in (I don’t know why).

So new players think the game is good but really hate those characters and decide not to go to tournaments because of obvious imbalance issues. In addition to that attitude and Capcom being cheap, no rebalance was sadly attempted.

The other reason that new players aren’t interested are because of people like Tebbo

So a new guy comes in and posts this video and say’s “hey guys this game rocks and I still play online” and this is the response he got…

Now I’m going to be kind of a dick and quote a message I got from Tebbo several months ago. Topic was “Why are you such an asshole?” And to keep everything crystal clear this is what I sent to him:

This is his response:

Could the irony be anymore apparent? And Lazyjosh I’m not trying to call you out or anything, I think you’re okay, I’m not going to go out of my way to troll you or tell you to fuck off and I’m not going to go through your YT videos and thumbs them down like people here have done on my channels.

But I’m trying to make a point that the community is at least partially to blame for 3S dying. And people like Tebbo are emblematic of this problem. This constant elitist asshole attitude that tells anyone even remotely interested in being a part of the community that the people are assholes and they shouldn’t bother.

You cannot look the other way and ignore this problem. You cannot be of sound mind and deny it.

My honest impressions of people I’ve encountered:

Julian Casablanca: Whatever happened to this guy? He was a good guy on GGPO and he disappeared when it went down. He was one of the few decent human beings in relation to 3S that I’ve encountered.

Agumon: Another decent human being, really sucks that I can’t play him without lag.

Denjizz: I get the feeling that he trolls but he was alright to me, and he has a damn good Ryu.

Artayes: This guy I remember defending a couple of times when quite a few people would just bash him for being bad. Everytime I’ve played him he basically did the same shit all day, and I thought at first he was messing around like 2Nasty (I’ll get to him) but no, he was actually playing serious. So I don’t know what to think about that.

2Nasty: I do owe him some thanks for teaching me some Alex tricks but he has an ego, I’d play him offline for sure. Probably share some of that pot he smokes when playing Twelve and Sean online.

JustinBieber: Who the fuck is this guy?

Tebbo/Aku: Gonna’ skip that one.

Womble: He’s definitely a troll and on the GGPO lobby he would talk about his dick all day long, and if you pointed out how he wrong he was he would answer “go play with my dick” or something along those lines. He seems to have calmed down a little bit, the 4-eyed limey that he is, but it could all be an act. I’m always amused when he tries to downplay his past.

NicaKO: This guy is a damn good Yun. But those Dive Kicks are so annoying online. I acted like a complete asshole and tried to act like Dark Side Geoff and I think I went over the line. I did send a message apologizing to him because he is good and he does well in tournaments. Would play him offline anytime.

RedVenom: One of the SoCal guys. And I played him at least twice and last time I played him he was using Ken’s jHK and then throw, and I couldn’t tech the throw if my life depended on it. He beats me twice then I get a round in, and in the previous round he taunted after knockdown. In the 2nd round I taunted after knocking him down and he ragequit claiming that only Ken can taunt. He seems to have forgot that Alex gets a damage boost from taunting too. He seems very sensitive.

Metric: Complete and utter scumbag. Just as bad as Tebbo. What’s worse is that he claims to play high level So Cal players all the time and yet he’s in the Karnov Room practically every night trolling.

Myself: I think I’m partly to blame to because I blow up at people like Tebbo and Metric and I think it gives the wrong kind of impression to those out of the loop. Sure, I’ve played people online and they’re bad and they pick Ryu/Ken/Akuma and mash and I tell them ‘go back to SF4’. That’s about as far as I’ve taken it and some people don’t take it personal, some see it as a sign of trying to get better, and some flip the fuck out. But I think the perception of me being this horrible human being who stomps all day has been blown out of proportion. I can at least say I’m not like the majority of you people and stoop to your level because I will show respect where it is due and admit when I’m wrong.

Oh fuck I wrote an essay.

No way 3s is dead. You can just download ggpo and…oh yeah nevermind. It’s not on there anymore. Well you can always download it off of xbl or psn and play online because the port is accepted by the community…wait, no it isn’t. Well if you really love the game you can just travel to tournaments and play people there because the tournament scene is still alive and stro…hahahaha. I couldn’t finish that without laughing.

O I forgot to announce I don’t care. Sorry louis.

ttyl

my apologies lazyjosh, but i dont know why you’re posting vids here without any explanation. if you want criticism there’s a thread for that. or your character’s forums.

o also louis. i like how those are the people you think constitute the 3s community. cool beans.

Yeah, (part of) community is to blame: some guys try to help and then, random dude comes and says useless crap as usual, ruining previous efforts in one single post. So sad

THE ENTIRE 3S COMMUNITY IS RESTING ON OUR SHOULDERS!

You know, as a relatively newcomer here and sort of outsider to of this television drama soap opera that is the 3rd strike subforum, I really shouldn’t be saying anything, but this reminds of that picture with /v/ users categorized with numbers with one of them being about the one guy who actually likes video games. Trying to find that guy here is like trying to find an Akuma player online that does something else except roundhouse tatsu.

This game was DOA. We already knew that 3S is largely lambasted by the FGC in general. This port just worked to make sure that the 3S players wouldn’t enjoy it, either.

Some of us still promote it and A3S, but we would be fools to think that Capcom/Iron Galaxy are willing to put any additional effort into this title. It was a cash grab that worked. Some people got true enjoyment out of it (I still play, however infrequently), but it is what it is.

Yes, I’d belive the reason people are so pissed off at it is because it WAS a cash grab and it DID work. Our money went to IG/Capcom and we didn’t get what we wanted. In a sense 3SOE is a scam, it’s not as advertised and IG/Capcom cheated us of our money, and you’d think you could file some sort of report of violated consumer rights or sue them, but either there’s no contest or people don’t have the balls. Thus we have a subforum full of rage, and Capcom has however much it made from this title with no lesson learned for them, and so they’re going to keep doing it again, and again, and again. BUT, even though 3SOE is a dissapointment and I will, and have, joined into that rage about it, I still think it’s at least playable offline. It’s the best port of 3s yes, but I still prefer emulated arcade over it. It would be better for other people to do that as well.

I think this game, at least the online portion, was designed to get us used to shitty netcode so sf4 would seem like a better thing to waste our time on.

After adjusting to 3sOE, which I’m still terrible at, I noticed that I’m pretty beastly at SF4 all while playing on reaction alone. I don’t go into training mode for 120982 hours, because I don’t need three hours of the same set up to know that I can just hold down back and wait for him to mash uppercut. I don’t need three hours of the same set up to know that he’s just going to stand full screen and wait for me to do something. All I need to do is out think him a little bit and he’ll auto pilot the rest of it because that’s how sf4 players play.

I know this thread is about 3s being dead and all that junk inside that trunk but I don’t want to waste my time berating a wonderful game no matter how ugly a suit it came in. I’d rather talk shit about sf4 and how stupid it’s community is.

I still don’t know how to get out of unblockables. I guess I could just avoid them but what if I haven’t spent the 130 hours in training mode learning my opponents obvious routine?

I noticed most Ibuki players try to play like that ibui dude from g4 tv. I also noticed most ken players are stupid. And Honda players force smiles and laughs because being meek offers a smaller paycheck.

I would like to play some 3s with you guys, bad connections or not. I think I’ve gotten used to it. I THINK. Btw, I still guess a lot because I figured out how to get my instant air parries. They don’t help me much because my execution is dwindled by pad but I can still crank out a nice kara uppercut combo here and there.

We can have gentlemen matches or inter-brawls the latter of which I don’t really enjoy.

Gentlemen’s matches mean don’t abuse lag tactics, I have a few of these on my friends list, I don’t know why. And inter-brawls are basically no rules.

add me on xbox.

dander420 or inTheRoughest

I guess the analogy to 3s of this would be skipping practice moe and just stomping people with Alex like whatshisname? Which isn’t that funny that it actually works because like 80% of OE’s online players are SF4 players.

Look guys, if you honestly think I do Stomps in legit matches then get a life. Come on. .

I do it because it’s funny as hell, and it works on SF4 scrubs, nothing more.

I refuse to be the The Dark Prince of 3S.

Dark Prince was actually pretty good at Marvel, you know? People just didn’t like his attitude. In fact, I think people didn’t like him because certain people didn’t like him. He seemed to have lots of friends and very few outspoken enemies. I think group mentality played into his disappearance a hell of a lot more than him actually doing things to hurt the community or his game. Nowadays people look to create situations like the ones he’s been said to be a part of by using his methods of shit talk yet no one shuns those groups. No, they don’t. Know why? Because the community trolls itself and then bitches about it.

lol you mad? I kinda have to agree, it did die cause of no changes. the balance in power was too great for beginners, I just started playing 3oe and it’s filled with veterans years of experience ahead of me and it’s an auto loss and the game isn’t worth getting better at when there’s newer games that you can take seriously over an already dead game that just wanted to “Relive the serious” not relive the competitive aspect of the game =-d

also if he’s the reason online edition died i’d like for him to comment on skullgirls/blazblue cause both those games are yuck =d

btw “balance in power comment” i’m talking to people just getting the game and trying it out online to only get whooped easily, the only game that causes that much ass whooping is starcraft 2 and your sure to lose just as bad there. No body likes to have a disadvantage and that’s what 3rd strike online WOULD promote if it were to be taken seriously again.

whenever I play 3rd strike i just mess around, I don’t take any matches seriously =d I treat the game as a hack of some sort =d

3SOE is far from dead, imo. I stream 3SO every Thursday nights and usually end up getting a packed lobby within 10 minutes of setting it up. And this is on PSN. Everyone just comes in and they all end up having fun.

EDIT: Some folks are usually sitting on the stream waiting for the lobby to start up on Thursday nights.

I can see the reasoning, but I also don’t agree with it at all because I find it to be a copout. Whether you’re playing for fun or competitively(or both), having a defeatist attitude is always going to make things not fun. If you don’t like the game, that’s fine. It’s not for everyone. But blaming the game because the players don’t get a free ride to wins is a bad mentality. Yes, it does get intimidating, but you’re not gonna lose your house from getting beat in 3rd Strike.

People who get beaten easily is because they don’t know how to play the game or have less knowledge of the game specifics, not because of some imbalance. Once players understand mechanics and specific nuances, the “balance” issue becomes irrelevant. Sure knowing 3rd Strike is likely more complicated to understand but it ain’t rocket science.

Hell, there are not many Chuns online anyways.

I agree that 3S is one of the harder fighting games to get into. When you’re starting out if you actually play anyone good, you’re gonna get wrecked. That has nothing to do with the port or the game’s balance though. It’s just a game where it’s easy to see how big the skill gap is between two players. I see nothing but shotos and Dudleys on 360 anyway, not many people are playing Chun or Yun.

Newcomers are gonna get beat down no matter what, and some will like the game enough that they’ll keep playing through that. Everyone else will probably float back over to SF4. But they would’ve done that anyway. You could’ve perfectly rebalanced 3S and nothing would change. And since almost no one in the community wants a rebalance, might as well listen to the people who actually care about the game.

What are those games where a complete beginner can think he’s doing fine against someone good?

your not gonna beat a guy with years of experience, he will have frame data remembered, everything basically remembered which does take years to Master and get into muscle memory with. Also add that to parrying, there is some moves that you can parry and can’t punish. Just too much advantage

If it was a simpler game like ssf4 or “Smash bros brawl, lol” then it would be a little better, but 3rd strike isn’t user friendly.
