3SO awful Online?

Bro, you gotta cherry pick like me. Search for a match, wait til the ping shows up and only play what looks good. The matchmaking is pretty terrible, but the netcode has been fine for me, to be honest.

I’ve experienced the KO rollback and, while it was startling the few times it’s happened, I ignore it. I don’t stop playing until they don’t get up.

Ugh man, I do sometimes. but then it can take anywhere from 10-30 mins to get a good match. The pings dont even show up for me until im actually in the room. heck i ussually am a little picky and it takes like 5 actual mins for a decent yellow ping, thats too long for finding a game man.

I guess I have to train myself, it just gets annoying, also times like where they get hit then actually parry, especially when it comes to anti airs, etc.

The online is ok, it’s definitely better than GGPO PC when playing local people. But I’m thinking there’s a lot of noobs playing on wireless and putting the ggpo settings to 0 - which is making shit hella laggy when playing cross continent. Playing someone from another country is definitely a worse experience on 3SOE than it was on GGPO PC.

I think they possibly should of forced a ggpo latency setting a long with region selection for player match lobbies. If you choose “Same region” you get a latency choice of 0 or 1, for “World lobbies”: 2-3, this might of made player matches a bit more playable because atm they’re shit.

Having trouble finding Ranked Matches in XBL. It takes forever and when I finally play, it’s a rollback fest. On the other hand, Player Match was almost flawless. My internet connection is quite good also, so I don’t quite understand why Ranked sucks.

From what I’ve experienced:
Green is wonderful 90% of the time. Occasional rollbacks, occasional sound doubling.
Yellow is a mixed bag. Wonderful 75% of the time. Somewhat frequent rollbacks and sound doubling.
Orange I ignore entirely. Frequent rollbacks and very frequent sound doubling.
Red is unplayable. Even in the best of times.

Basically, don’t play on any Oranges or Reds and you should be fine. Even in Ranked. I know it takes a long time, but wait for the ping display to show up before you hit ‘Ready’ and it will save you a lot of trouble.

Ranked being quickmatch only is a major oversight. Please, just give me a list of games to choose from so I have some control over connection quality. It’s been 50/50 red and yellow all night. Never green. My connection is very good. I dunno what the hell.

ive def played on yellows that felt worse than red. the colors dont mean anything from my experience.

The netcode is amazing, it’s just the random ranked match selection that sucks.

This is DEFINITELY true. The colors are unfortunately a stupid guideline so you will inevitably end up in a Yellow that laughs at GGPO. Especially if they use Akuma. Akuma players seem to have dial-up, as a generalization.

Sent from my Gundam. In space. Beefin’.

Why did Capcom have to use colored dots to represent connection strength? Just give me the actual ping. I actually have a hard time physically telling whether a dot is green or yellow, and have a hard time telling whether a dot is orange or red.

I’ve found orange/red have more rollback and whatnot so, as a general rule, I just play green/yellow and it 's fine enough.

The actual matchmaking is balls though. How’s this game the “Online Edition” if you can’t control the size of your lobby outside of assigning a bunch of private slots to make the room the size you want? That oversight has forced me to play ranked match exclusively which has it’s own problems, like taking forever and only having a quick match option. So, you’re basically sitting there for five minutes waiting for a match, and when the system finally finds someone they turn out to have a orange/red connection with you and you have to start the process over again.

Yes it is awful online. I just left the game after 3 days of trying to get this game going online. Many things comes to mind when I tried to play this title.

Awful ranked system.- this is weird as even in SF HD remix ( the second of capcom’s title with online capabilites) had a better design (which I found it pretty basic but it was better).

No pings whatsoever .- this is 2011 and people know about miliseconds… colors and dots are insulting when they said it was a “love letter to fans”… well, fans plays on GGPO and they know about miliseconds.

Awful screen selection.- the name of the game is ONLINE EDITION… but if you smash A (in xbox 360 or X in PSN) after waiting for over more than 3 minutes you will get after reading “session expired” the LOCAL MATCH screen… WTF?

I read somewhere that sc2 people were demanding (that is the term when you give money to a company) that it was taking too long to find a game (less than 40 seconds) they were not accepting that kind of waiting response from blizzard’s servers… so I wonder, what would it happened if they saw that you must wait over 4 minutes in order to find a game?.. I know capcom tries its best, but this isn’t the first time they’ve tried with the online features that are now a standard’s in most titles online.

for these reasons and many more I am done with playing online … I know they probably won’t miss me but hey, I’m glad to support other companies who appreciate players and like to grow exponentially.

For me its awfull online… to the point where its unplayable.
Maybe my connection and GGPO just dont mix, all I know is the screen flicks and blinks all over the place. Anytime I get a match with someone from the UK, Ireland or Europe its ok but the ranked system keeps matching me against American and Canadian players :frowning:

oh well

Aside from the obvious ranked/player matchmaking issues, it’s good for me.

However, in terms of competition comapared to GGPO/Supercade, it’s muuchhhh less competitive on console (xbl)…

Just a tip. I thought it was awful, but GGPO delay was set to 0.

After setting it to 2 its MUCH better, they should really auto set it coz people could have a really bad experience and not know why.

Lol. Delay 2 is the default.

It’s fine for me. I don’t play ranked though. GGPO hides lag better I guess, but I’m still tempted to turn the smoothing from 2 to 0.

Playing on Xbox360, Wired connection, modem straight to XBox…
I dunno what to think of this game’s online…GGPO delay 0-1, a horrific slideshow. Set it at 2, almost normal, but many many times, as soon as the fighters are in collision distance, starts with it’s little rollbacks, with one jab sound effect repeated 3-4 times rapidly. Set it to 3, the input delay starts. Literally cannot trust what the game is telling me is a good connection…I’ll wait in the slow ass lobby for the ping indicator to come up, get a green connection, start the game, and the slideshow begins. Get back to the lobby, see another player has entered and is waiting with his shit red connection. In SSF4, I don’t fuck around, I’ll kick anyone that isn’t green, and the room gets better because of it. In this, I kick the shitty connection, everything goes green, start the match, and it’s like I’m playing the red connection guy…:shake:
I honestly dunno which is worse, do I play with slow inputs, or do I go for good response with visuals that I can’t fucking trust for a split second. Frustrating experience so far.
