You have to feel from where they are coming from (the people who dislike the console idea); the game may be perfectly the same and play the same, but playing on an arcade just feels better. It’s that sense that makes people go out to the arcade and pop in a couple of bucks to play a game that they already have at home.
The consoles will save you guys time and money but the nostalgic feel would be gone. Coming from the days of the first Street Fighter 2 tourneys, I can understand their feelings.
But hey its your tourney and if they don’t like it then they dont have to come comment is a little below you isn’t it.
i guess we’re just a little sketchy on how 20 minutes can be classified as exhaustive testing. maybe that’s the problem here. otherwise, i got nothin:)
i know i’m a smart ass. I’m sorry for making so many cracks at you guys. But yeah lemmie be frank here.
At Evo, ps2 or supergun or dc for that matter, i’ll still go. Last year was a fucking blast. When I heard PS2 3s was arcade perfect and it was going to be used for EVO, i had no problem and was a little bit excited. I mean come on. “Arcade Perfect” is a dream come true. But as stated before, 20 minutes is hardly “exhaustive testing”.
All i ask is to give more time for testing and see if it really is arcade perfect. Is that so much to ask for?
Ink, i know running evo isn’t easy, and it’s not cheap. And the History isnt stacked against us. For all those tourneys you listed, the console versions, i believe (correct me if i’m wrong), are more or less arcade perfect. PS2 Third Strike, we’re just not sure.
edit: Round Robin pools sounds awesome too. So whoever does have the PS2 version of 3s, test it like crazy.
correction… “The consoles will save you guys time and money but you will loose the arcade community.”
… i suggest u ask more ppl than just mopreme since he even said himself he played for a little bit… i know gaidan and justin wong were at E3 and they also played it… ( i mean justing wong is the marvel king, but he is also one of the best 3s players out there… and he’s been practicing his YUN!.) i think justin was saying something about chun-li’s links… maybe should should talk to him ,… or atleast more ppl… before you make the decision
I completely agree. And if Capcom coin-op still existed, or if it was at all practical to actually obtain enough arcade cabinets, we would still be using arcade. I didn’t make this world, I just have to live in it.
We can continue having arcade tournaments, only to see them slowly decay into nothing, or we can bite the bullet and switch to console, which will cause some short-term pain, but has unlimited growth potential.
It’s more like I’m throwing a pool party, but you want to go to a barbeque instead. So just go to the barbeque down the block, instead of calling me every night complaining that I’m throwing a pool party.
Canceling the pool party entirely would be taking my ball and going home.
The game was tested for longer than 20 minutes. There are NDAs involved so I don’t know what I can and can’t say. I’ll let the people involved (MrWizard, Paul, etc.) explain further.
my bad. mopreme said him and kamui tested it for around 20 minutes and i haven’t even heard from paul lee yet, so i shouldn’t jump to conclusions until i hear somebody who has extensively tested the game.
Wow ink, that hurt, you gave everyone(even thongboy) a reply except me:( That’s cold.
Oh well, in any case, I’m not against migrating to console(better than letting the scene die) and I’m only fearful of the ps2 version for new glitches or what have you(time unlockable characters that are discovered during tourney would suck, BAD, as would any new glitches). But what if the game gets delayed, will we play on DC? Surely the point of switching away from superguns would be to avoid the hassle, obviously keeping backups on hand wouldn’t be consistent with that, so I guess I’m just wondering if you’re putting all your chickens in one basket, after all, this version will have been out like a whopping 2 days(if we’re lucky and it is released on time AND you can get copies of it) I mean this IS still an early version, conceivably the final copy could be screwed even if the preview version is good(not likely, but this HAS happened before).
PS Im not anti console, just asking questions about my concerns…
It seems more like everybody wants the barbecue, but you’re serving tofu burgers because it’s better for everybody. Who would call us crazy for asking “Where’s the BEEF?”.
Why are we going through all this trouble to use PS2? cause people didn’t agree on the DC version when we had the chance.
In either case it’ll probably be close enough, the hints say that there was decent testing involved (possibly an early copy to test for evo?) and most of the things one would complain about (unblockables, combos) really don’t take more than a few minutes to test.
I talked to Vic Vance (who lives with Paul Lee) and he said that Paul noticied differences between PS2 and Arcade version, slight ones, but still differences.
