3s New Player FAQ // Directions -- START HERE

yes, as far as I’m aware you can set up unblockables mid screen using tengu or ex tengu off post knockdown. I believe it’s best against tall characters like urien, hugo, Alex, etc but I’m not 100%.

You should try Ken or Gouki. Even if you don’t feel the game mechanics, they are a fine choice. They are pretty beasty characters at high levels, as well.
I know I picked Ken.

Then, I heard this by accident:

Ken: "Alright! Time to be the cheapest, most overused bastard in the game!"
Ryu puts his hand on his shoulder
Ryu:“Yo man… There’s someone you should meet”.

Hint: He loves skateboarding…

He said he wants Oro tips, and he sounds like he already seems to have a good grip on how to play him. Don’t mess up that flow by saying “Play ___ instead”.

My suggestions were referring to Toekn3e post.

Oh. My bad.

(let’s quote the posts that we’re trying to respond to from this point on, saves a lot of confusion)

I use quotes 90% all the time. I will try to maximize it to 100% from this point on. My bad, too.

Thanks for the suggestion mpikkon. I just went browsing through all the character specific subforums to find who I may enjoy. I’ve settled on Dudley. At least, for now, unless I find something I don’t particularly like about him or there is a compelling reason to try someone else.

Duds is great fun. <3
Just to give the little input I can give on the subject, have you watched this yet? Most of the basics as well as some useful setups are covered.

(also, do you play on XBL? You sound like you might be somewhere around my level, and I’d love to get someone to play with)

Will be watching now  thanks for the link.

Unfortunately, I play on PSN.

are you that loser feint?

no?

Good, man!

Naeras, I’ll see about answering your question in a bit. I am behind on some reading.

Hey Guys,

I see Yun players do cr.lk, walk forward, cr.lk, walk forward for pressure, and it combos if left unblocked. I tried it in training but it can’t quite get it to combo consistently. What do you guys input for this? I do: down-back + lk, then push the stick up-forward, down-back +lk etc.

Thanks,
Cong

If you move forward, it should be: F-D+LK, F-D+LK (repeat)
You can combo very few c.LK together in the beginning. c.LK stuns very slightly the crouched character. If you want to combo from many c.LKs you neet to time them. If you don’t time them correctly, a dragon kicks(LK) will come out.

To compensate, you use {St MP, c.LK), a high-low mix up game.
This stuns the crouched char way better as long as you time your inputs with the forward direction. It is a combo itself when it is used an a crouched char with guard-off. A loop which can be repeated to connect other moves(c.LK, Dakai,c.MK,->Shoulder tackle…etc) and launch juggles or chain combos.

Good tips and a fun read, thanks everybody.

How can I continue improving when no one, besides my friends, locally plays? <div>Online is bunk and I’m starting to refuse to even acknowledge it.</div><div><br></div><div>I can only teach my friends so much. Plus, playing against them all the time has given me extremely bad habits, which sucks.</div><div>Seriously, the only things I can actually improve on at this rate are execution and fundamentals. But it’s difficult to figure out what I even need to improve on without having an experienced player point it out to me. Shit sucks.</div><div><br></div><div>I was going to become decent with every character in the game because it’s the only other thing I can think of that will improve my game.</div><div><br></div><div>Really thinking of starting a revival in my local scene but I need money fo’ dat.</div>

You’ll learn more playing online vs good people than playing local guys who do not care to get better/do research.

Don’t know how money can revive your local scene. You either have players or you don’t. As long as you have one person who is dedicated to get better, you both can improve and learn together.

Study videos nonstop and never stop learning. Don’t just watch but analyze decisions made by top players.

Forget the money. That wont create anything except a few extra entries that won’t take the game serious and won’t help your scene.

It helps a lot to watch characters that you play but it also helps to just watch any video. To be good at this game you really need extensive game knowledge. Check out the latest Coop Cup in its entirety. Should be a dedicated thread avout halfway down on the 3rd Strike threads.

Will do.<div><br></div><div>I appreciate the help. </div>
