Don’t you have some fireballs to spam or something? 3s=/=SF II, and yes it is a Street Fighter, regardless of how much you personally hate parrying. Get over it.
I agree with puffy on this one. There are some characters that are pretty awesome, others that are just Capcom trying to be unique and cool (but they fail miserably). For instance, Remy and Hugo should’ve never been in any Street Fighter and they should’ve kept zangief and Guile.
Where did I ever say I hated parrying? I’m thoroughly depressed it’s not an option in SF4. I gave my opinion and you clearly didn’t even read it before jumping to conclusions. Awesome!
as for mio, saying hugo is not a great character makes you the stupidest noob in the world? Why? because Hugo was actually able to fight against the entire cast save chun li. No one can ffight that dumb bitch.
this is dander btw, not lovepig.
great game, great cast with a few bad apples. Were Twelve and chun excluded, we would have had the ideal fighting game. Parry haters need to play me before they keep bitching about how top players use parry as an excuse not to block.
Hugo can beat a lot of Chun-li’s normals at certain zones. Hugo can beat chun-li’s whiffed standing fierce with his standing strong on reaction. Try it! Also, from that range low forward beats pretty much everything she has on startup. It’s a fun fight if you know your footsies and if your execution is on point. If she’s turtling (without meter) you can taunt at full screen and + defense.
I thoroughly believe that everybody in the cast can beat everybody. There are certaintly tiers, i.e. Ken can do everything Sean can do but better, but to me I think some characters are just harder to play than others. I thought twelve was pretty meh 'till I saw SBO 08. But again, Twelve just has to work A LOT harder than the user friendly Chun-Li but is very capable of beating top tiers.
As for character design, I like it because it’s new, creative and every character has something to offer in gameplay.
Dude, go read mio’s original response. Asking limeken to stop crying about parrying shows that he DID NOT read the original post. Where is he crying about parrying? He’s saying 3s is a great game! The kind of callous treatment shown in posts like yours is even worse than the cream puff threads that have been showing up in general strategy. (How is this thread general strategy related?)
On a different note, I think the 3s version riffs of sf2 characters were very well done.
Except for Chun, I feel as if all the characters are great and make 3S the fun game it still is. If I had to change one thing though, it’s bring back Elena’s 2I voice.
Thank you runaround, after that stupidity I started to assume all of SRK was 12 years old, thanks for the re-assurance that there are in fact sane people out there.
And you’re totally right, I was jumping to conclusions and I didn’t expect to be taken seriously. So sorry if you got that impression.
The reason I made that assumption is because when people trash talk 3s as being completely different/worse than other SFs, they are almost always referring to how parrying ruins the metagame of Street Fighter that was established in SF 2. Perhaps… no, please explain yourself if you have some other outrageous reason for making those first two statements.
But both are equally fun and bring something different to the table. As far as the cast though, I much prefer the original SF2 cast - but that does not mean that 3S cast is bad. In fact I really like the cast - and it also holds my favorite character - Necro. I just prefer the original.
3s strike abandons many of the SF elements established and maintained through much of the series. (especially the main series)
Lack of zoning, specials and supers are beatable by normals (and the priority tables are very different from other SF’s) and jumps are ridiculously safe to name a few.
Look at SF4. Specials and zoning dominate the gameplay, because the series is returning to it’s roots.
Now being different from classic SF doesn’t make 3s a bad game, but it does make it very unSFlike and in some regards a bad SF game.
I disagree with the notion that 3rd Strike is a bad Street Fighter. It’s not. The only reason you would call it a bad Street Fighter is if you felt that it was made in some other way than it was “supposed” to be made.
Just because Super Turbo started it all, and because it has been / will continue to be a staple in the Street Fighter community, does not mean that we should judge the quality of every other Street Fighter based on its similarities to the Super Turbo fighting engine. There is no unwritten rule (except in your minds) that states that every Street Fighter must be like Super Turbo in order to be a good Street Fighter. I personally think that 3rd Strike is an evolved form of Super Turbo, and by that definition I would think that SF 4 is a bad Street Fighter since it doesn’t “continue the evolution” where 3rd Strike left off. But then I take a step back and realize that all Street Fighters are meant to be unique and independent from one another, and just because one follows a different style from the others doesn’t mean that it’s a bad batch in the series.
I can go into the details of why I think 3rd Strike lives up to the quality of what is Street Fighter, but I think you get the gist of what I’m trying to say already.
I disagree. 3s is a bad Street Fighter. It may be a good fighting game, but in the mold of a Street Fighter it isn’t right.
There may not be any official rules dictating what Street Fighter should be, but the history of the game has established an identity associated with Street Fighter.
Look at the Star Trek movies. It’s a science fiction franchise. Now say they made Unforgiven, the western, and Named it Star Trek. Would that be a good Star Trek? No. It’s still an awesome movie, but it doesn’t fit the identity of the series. 3s is similar. It may be good, but it abandons so many SF elements it no longer fits the identity of the series, thus making it a bad Street Fighter in some eyes.
Take a more fighting game oriented example. Say Sega makes VF6 with specials such as fireballs, air combos and assists ala Marvel, and fatalities ala MK. Now for arguments sake let’s assume the game turns out awesome. Would it be considered a good VF? I don’t think so. But it is still a good fighter.
well i think any street fighter that has more than 1 selectable character is bad streetfighter. streerfighter one started it all. and what is with fireballs not being unblockable and half life damage anymore? that shit is wack.
also 2 types of jumps we have nowadays? that is just hogwash.
a real streetfighter game has only TWO buttons and how hard to mash them is the strength of the punchkick. JUST LIKE LIFEY, if you wanna hit them HARD you should have to hit the button HARD right!!
