I played it in the distant past, found out I didn’t like the game, etc. There’s a fucking point people need to let go of their games, the game isn’t growing anymore in the U.S. and outside of Socal the game is hardly being played, as Street Fighter 4 has pretty much dominated every other game that’s being played. Just because you love a game to death, doesn’t mean that it will still have a possibility of being in Evo when pretty much everyone (that counts) has said it’s done. I play Melty Blood for fuck’s sake, just because I love the game, and want the game to be at Evo doesn’t mean it has a possibility of making it. It’s also pretty much the same for me as vanilla ST is going out the door for an inferior remake, imo, and I’ve pretty much accepted it that it’s the time for it to go since it’s ran its course and I took too long to pick it up as a tourney game. I’d say it’s time for Marvel too, but that’s a whole different topic.
I think what needs to happen to give new players an incentive to keep playing this game is for 3s to get the HD remix treatment like HD remix and Mvc2 did. That way it won’t discourage new people to pick up the game. If you look at HD remix it has done wonders for the community. Obviously, this isn’t something that can be done from Evo’s side, but Capcom should take notice since these remix games have been well-received by the community.
I mean I can use myself as an example. I knew about third strike all the way back around November of last year. This was when I first started practicing HD remix cuz I was awaiting SFIV.
Unfortunately I didn’t ever pick it up seriously until two months of SFIV online, which made me absolutely detest SFIV, so I decided to go back and play 3s once I found out about GGPO. (I now recognize the difference between offline SFIV and online SFIV don’t rage)
When I finally got to play it on FBalpha, which was around march with my ps2 pad, and I did a low forward super with Ken I was hoooooked :lol:
So, I did something, which would be pretty uncommon for most people who joined the scene around 09. However, 3s had everything a fighting game needed in order to appeal to me. Not to mention I like the fact that it had FPS twitch skills because of the parrying mechanic, and hit confirming.
So, I hate to say it, but to keep the game alive or attract new players…you have to create a shiny new game. It doesn’t have to replace 3s arcade (real 3s), but it certainly can at least allow for new players to have an incentive to play such an old ass game besides noticing what a masterpiece it is.
I love this game but I reckon the only thing that would keep it alive at the moment if a ton of players came out that represented the lower tiers. We need more Necro,Q,Hugo,Oro and Alex as I think these are the most crowd pleasing characters, moves and combo wise.
Also getting a bunch of high level Japanese to come would help a whole lot. Bringing Kuroda would seal the deal but I don’t see that happening considering he is apparently a very weird and quiet kinda guy.
This is the scene’s last chance. Fucking ban Genei Jin and Hoyokusen. That would totally revive the game and everyone knows it, I have no idea why people would let the game die rather than change the reason it sucks compared to SF4.

i play yang and man handle most of the yun and chuns ive played, its not that you want those things banned…its just you’re not willing to put the time and effort needed to get good in the game unlike sf4 where you need only a few months to get even remotely above average at it

Leave banning for reasons like “improving game quality and competitiveness.” in smash. Yah, beating a chun/yun is a difficult feat, but it’s doable. Also, I don’t see them ticking into something that can take away practically most of your life bar like akuma does.

Ok so you play the 5th best character in the game and can beat lots of people who play the best 2. Thats not what this is about. 3rd Strike has 19 characters and only a handful are used competitively. I dont want Geneijin/Hoyokusen banned so Yang players can compete in tourneys…they should be banned so Oro/Necro/Ibuki/Elena…etc players can compete in tourneys.
People have been linking me Kuroda vids for years as proof that low tiers can win in this game… its seriously just Kuroda. Even at SBO no team ever wins without Chun-Li on it. Winning tournaments is about CONSISTENCY, and no one can consistently win against good Chun/Yun players. I have tourney results on my side, you guys have random ass 1-game jap match vids.
If you are seriously asking people to become as good as Kuroda or pick Yun and Chun then it should be no surprise to you why the game’s dead. Chun vs Chun is not fun for anyone involved. Sorry but thats what the game is right now.

3rd Strike is still my favorite SF game but I like the community at large over 3rd Strike. Lately playing SFIV for me has been like pulling teeth but I still enjoy the game and the community enough to continue playing it.

I remember when I started playing fighting games, it was really trial by fire and now, scrubs are getting their balls powdered by top players instead of earning peoples respect the old fashioned way.
The old way of fighting games is gone, learning from humiliation and regret only made you stronger and would get you thinking about scenario’s every second of everyday is a thing of the past.
Banning those specific supers is pretty much the same thing as banning the characters themselves.
When was the last time you saw a Yun player not using SA3 or a Chun player not using SA2?

There are a shitload of Chun/Yun players out there and if they’re forced to use other supers besides GJ and Hoyoku-sen, I’m pretty sure that there would be even less 3S players than there are now.
I sure as hell wouldn’t take the game as seriously as I should, if your way of reviving 3S came into effect. Oh, I beat a SA1 Chun or SA1/2 Yun. Big whoop.
It just happens to be a trend that games mostly die after they’re dropped from Evo. Like I said earlier, Socal is pretty much the only place where 3s gets grind, anywhere else it’s an afterthought, and I’m pretty sure even after Evo drops 3s from the lineup, it’ll still be played in Socal. So if were going with this logic, why would 3s continue to be in Evo lineup when one small (physical size) section of the whole US plays it constantly.
Honestly, 3s comp in the U.S. doesn’t mean jack shit, except for people like Pyro or whatnot. I [along with a lot of good players] can’t really take some random people’s opinions seriously, since they haven’t or ever will reach a level where they can see the game the way it should be played.
People that say Chun/Yun win 99% of the time have never been to Japan. Yes, we’re not in Japan so blahblahblah, but every 3s player holds Japan to be the pinnacle of 3s competition [which it is]. People say ‘get better’ when someone complains about Yun/Chun because well, THAT’S WHAT THE JAPANESE DID. Casuals or tournament, when I was in Japan I saw Yuns and Chuns getting fucked up hardbody by lower tier characters [Ibuki, Yang, Necro, etc]. I fucked up Chuns and Yuns in Japan. I got fucked up by lower tier characters. It’s all about your own level.
You see Chuns and Yuns all up in the higher SBO rankings because those players are [mostly] the best players there. Obviously the character themselves matter, but a huge part of it is the player behind the character.
3s is done at Evo [as a main event], yeah. Have a side tourney, petition a main tourney, whatever. As long as 3s is being played I’ll be happy. Yeah the game is drastically smaller than it was a couple years ago. That’s great, go ahead and continue to remind 3s players of that fact. Guess what: we know.
