The point isn’t that scrubs exist everywhere. On PSN, you see this a lot more often because these tactics often work. They work more often than they should, though, because the lag and speed differences allow for tactics like these to be rewarded. Couple that with a player base where 99% of them don’t know what they’re doing and it’s easy to see why everyone complains about PSN (considering I have first-hand experience with the players on there).
i think people who are ok online vs off must have great reflexes and dexterity or something.
i don’t have remarkable reflexes and my execution is a joke (except charging), that difference in timing and absence of lag is a big deal for me.
i might be the exception in this case but people who transition easily are, imo, freaks.

Honestly, the difference in arcade based skill and online based skill is the difference in thugness between people who learned on the streets and people who wear fubu.
It took me 8 years before I fully recognize how drastic the timing difference is. Even offline OE is a lot faster and hit confirms are harder.
Those intricacies are much more important for stronger players who need all those timing specifics down.
Even 1-2 frame difference for me is difference between getting hit or an OS down. Or getting a late throw tech since I want to maximize my vision across my next move, spacing, etc all at once.
yeah and on gppo for me at least i need to basically do things in advance for them to work.
again i get thats not everyones experience but it’s not like people are making shit up.
there is only one standardized version of the game which is identical for everyone who plays: cps3.
If you spent a day on PSN, you would see the bad habits that most players on there tend to use. Why is this? Considering that the player base on there relies heavily on strategies not rooted in any solid knowledge or reads, when these strategies hit, the belief is reinforced that these are strategies that win. Hence, strategies get used again and as a result bad play is reinforced.

Ban urien, Yun, yang, and set to marathon. Switches to gill after he loses a set.
Maybe I’ve been MIA long enough that he won’t kick me immediately.
Also reading through the analysis of the online player base is entertaining. Why get so worked up over how shitty players might be. It’s psn, one of the most accessible platforms on the planet. Clearly something so accessible will have a much lower common denominator compared to fightcade or whatever your local major has.
So they do stupid shit, punish it and move on to the next person in line. I do agree it’s difficult to want to help them improve or offer them the obvious advice they’re missing as they get on the microphone and proceed to spew the most idiotic excuses as to why they’re losing. I once had a guy complain that I couldn’t fight in the “open world” so I proceeded to throw him back towards the middle every time I cornered him. I do answer questions I receive from new players but the reality is that some players just aren’t interested in improving.
For me, I have a list of people I enjoy playing with and through them I’ll get introduced to others and the list grows so I now have a bank of people I know have an idea of what to do in the game. Sure it’s pretty self alienating but with the limited time I have to play these days it’s nice to know that when I do have a chance to play, I can get a few decent games with a few decent people.
Some days after work I just want to mindlessly hit buttons to unwind and the general public are perfect for that. I know that if I don’t recognize the name, chances are that my genei-jin just became unblockable and I get to move about like it’s a single player game.
Online isn’t for everybody. It serves the purpose I need it to. Maybe I’m just old.
I like online, met a bunch of cool people amidst the usual trolls and dumb people. Just pointing out some differences for those who seem to think online isn’t different from offline.
If any of you would like to play, I’m on Xbox most late nights. Looking for more Chun Li experience at the moment, as I’m pretty free vs any solid Chun right now. o KD Alpha o is my GT and even though you may see me on Fightcade from time to time (mostly just to play casually with friends), that runs horrible for me so I’d prefer Xbox for trying to learn stuff.
I’ve been trying to install XP so that I could test if XP is significantly better than 7 for Fightcade, but it’s been rough. first it blue screened every time on setup, figured out that XP doesn’t have drivers for my hard drive type. put new drivers on the XP disc, got past that step, then realized that XP doesn’t think my USB keyboard exists either.
I have a suspicion that Windows 7 (even with Aero off) is not so good for Fightcade or emulation in general. but I won’t know for sure until I figure out how to make my keyboard work during XP install. some day.
