I donât think online is an environment you canât learning anything in, but itâs definitely much harder to replicate the offline experience if thereâs any hint of lag or delay. 3S is a game with strict timing and frame specific reversals and parries, so any delay and lag will throw that stuff off.
You shouldnât get shoryuâd or superâd after a blocked SA3 by Ken or SA2 by Elena, but it happens online more than it would ever happen offline. You can adjust, and people do, but adjusting doesnât make it play like offline 3S. Iâm a big proponent of playing online to get experience and pick up stuff too, but there is no substitute for the real deal.
Online is nice to have, but itâs fools gold to trick yourself into believing thereâs no difference. PSN is a prime example of a player base who have no idea how 3rd Strike is really played. Itâs the epitome of online play and those who play on it are staunch supporters of that type of play âbecause it works.â
Thatâs the attitude that prevents people from learning and growing and itâs unfortunate. I wish for everyone to be able to play 3S offline or on a cab. The game is so fun when there are no handicaps.
Online reinforces bad habits and builds false egos, which is why I bring up not caring about wins or losses. There are a select few who are legitimately good enough to really care about winning or losing. The focus should be on improvement. If youâre improving and learning then wins will be a byproduct of that mindset. If the winning aspect is all youâre focused on then progress will be very hard and youâll get frustrated more easily. Playing to learn is a much more worthy experience, imo.
Yea I agree with KD. Can use playing online as a practice tool depending on the connection.
I donât know what khang or denjizz are talking about. I like Jordan (metric). I hope he didnât take offense to my post, wasnât meant to be offensive. Also I donât participate in talking about loucipher lol.
Well, I used to play on Xbox a lot and the PS3 demographic sucks, no offense to those who play on it but man, compared to Xbox 360 with Jeff Goldblum, KD Alpha and this one necro with like pppppppqpppp or something like that, it doesnât compare. I love losing, especially on smart play but here on psn when bs tactics like spamming overhead kicks with Chun li and unsafe frame traps because they expect characters to buy into that shit and they level up for it? Man, it gets me furious.
As for the makoto, she karakusa me on every occasion. I parried a move of hers and responded with a heavy kick but she canceled that into a karakusa, I donât even think she knew I was going to parry and just did it. Sheâd use the perfect time to spam some hayates and when I press a button, it wouldnât come out. The makoto playerâs great but the psn got me aggravated.
Iâll say it again, I love losing if itâs on a high level, not on the psn level.
This is the online thread, so it does make a kind of sense to talk about online here, even if it is just the same old online bad, offline good argument. The general discussion thread still seems to be on track talking about the game, I say we just all move there and leave this thread behind.
call it heresy but I actually prefer the online edition build to the arcade build. disregarding online I think the increased speed just âfeelsâ a bit better; mainly with parrying for me. and really the small nerf to hitconfirms is good as those characters who rely most on it could use it. That and the speed can make some OS a little harder and Iâm really not a fan of any OS in general as it lets the game decide whatâs best. On top of all that it fixes some rare gameplay glitches.
there may be some issues with negative edge though.
Online will give you bad habits when you transition to arcade and throw off all your timing to the point its been famously called
"Offline lag" - Exodus Khang of Vietnamese Empire
you do realize that OSes are supposed to be split second decision and not just the lucky choice? Those extra frames go into determining whether your OS was 1) the correct one 2) timed properly. 2 especially in the case of sggk. This new push the buttons and let it do it all for you phenomenon became a thing after sf4.
I think itâs imagining your entire opponent will be dumb to abused overheads or reckless moves because it works. High level players donât fall for gimmicks or cheap tricks to win.
Timing differences = bad habit.
Different timing in different game will give you bad results. I can give a hundred examples but it all boils down to timing differences.
With Ken, I tried three low light kicks dash up grab, not some random shit. The akuma is more mk light tatsu and grab and spam until death. But this pretty accurate.
Let me add a bit more to that from my games last night:
Alex - Random stomps, stomp, STOMP, more STOMPS, some more STOMPS, STOMP STOMP.
Ryu - Empty jump fireball xx SA2
Ryu - starts off every round with RH tatsu.
These are coming from 3 guys who brag a lot too (o_o)
