I don’t think I ever played Pyteria. I did play that one Hugo player, Eddieroids or something like that? that guy plays funny lol.
there were some memorable names there though. not people I thought were good maybe, but people I thought were funny/interesting. fodderfocker and Skarz1989 stuck out in my memory. have they improved much since ~6 months ago?
I did lose to Cruise all 4 times I ran into him. so there’s that I guess.
Eddyroids plays like he’s the greatest ever but all you have to do to beat him is not play fast, don’t go for stupid reads against him (because that’s all he wants), and make him really predictable. For instance, if you anti air him the first time, he’ll jump and fish for parry. Or how he high parties after every jump in.
I played some guy JDL_San on ggpo today. He was good but after like 10 games and losing the swing of things he ducked out and only then complained about the lag. I just stopped jumping in and started neutral jumping.
I gave up on Yun a bunch of months ago, because I feel like he’s super disadvantaged in lag, and I suck with him a lot and I will never get better with him unless I find offline people to play with. but for no good reason, I decided to mess around with him a little today.
I lost two matches, one of them horribly, then narrowly won the third match and the guy dropped on me. Nope, not going back to Yun. Not online. That was basically my whole experience with him on XBL too. Lose over and over, barely win, other guy drops because “YUN SO BROKE”. Nobody cares about losing to Ken, but losing to a Yun who doesn’t even land any decent combos? Clearly they were cheated.
I think Yun is pretty good in lag! dive kicks are a lot better and it’s harder to red parry target combo.
dive kick
target combo -> shoulder -> activate
loop to step 1
that alone will beat 95% of online players lol
but if you’re trying to play legit (same as offline, same as you’d play against legit comp) I think any character is harder to play in lag. personally I can’t play Chun or Ken the way I want to online. whiff punishing is harder, stopping dash and jump ins is harder, etc. I think you can minimize the problem by finding a small list of players whose game you respect and only playing them.
there are a lot of clueless guys online. I wouldn’t pay them any mind. they looked at a tier list once and decided based on that. they don’t know anything about how the game works.
For whatever reason, I have a really hard time getting a 123 or shoulder activate online. Somehow literally everyone becomes a parry master when I pick Yun, it’s infuriating. And I get baited into doing EX upkicks constantly, which is weird because that kind of thing doesn’t really happen with other characters either. Maybe I just have terrible luck. I probably COULD win more matches by doing nothing but dive kicking. Bleh, no matter, I try to use too many characters as it is.
I’d like to get a better handle on Chun as well, but I imagine people react the same way to her. The only characters I really have no interest in whatsoever are Sean and Twelve…and maybe Ibuki. She seems like a big project with not enough payoff.
I’m not a Yun expert at all so take my opinion with a heavy dose of salt, but I think you don’t wanna use EX upkicks much. not that great a reversal or anti air and it’s better to save your meter for Genei Jin. usually if I’m on defense I’ll block and late crouch tech or just look to guard jump out to safety, or if they overextend themselves while attacking Yun can low short -> dash punch. not sure if that’s what good Yuns do defensively, but probably better than EX upkicks lol. there’s better Yuns here than me for sure, maybe they have more insight than I do.
if they’re parrying dive kicks I think the idea is to whiff divekicks in front of their face (or spaced a little further out). there was a set posted between Nitto and Matsuken recently where you can see Nitto do that a bunch.
I think this is happening because Ken has a lot of great anti divekick options and can do a lot of them on reaction. so not really safe to attack his body with divekick. might be worth trying to use divekicks more like that instead of attacking their body directly and giving them the opportunity to parry or DP on reaction.
I get people who parry my dive kicks occasionally, but usually that’s the least of my worries, It’s doing anything other than divekicking that’s tricky. I can’t even get 123, because they parry right away, and if I activate it on block I don’t know what to do. I know I should have the advantage in that situation, but a disproportionate amount of the time the opponent just powers through.
It’s not worth the trouble. I’ll pick up Yun again if I ever have an offline scene, which I probably won’t but maybe if I ever make it to Japan I’ll find some low level outcasts who will accept me as one of their own. Does that AKB48 girl still play, I bet I can take her.
Genei Jin if they have blocked is mostly inching in with the cr. short and standing strong until you are certain you can break their guard or get zenpou. After that it’s all juggles anyway.
Sometimes people parry my attacks. That’s when I do something that they won’t parry or if they do, I do something that can hurt them anyway or let me out.
