3rd Strike Online Thread

Stungun is semi-viable vs. Oro and his slow ass fireball releases. If Alex has it stocked Oro has to keep his fingers out of his nose.

No one who uses stungun online knows this, but hey.

Yeah, but my point is that it’s human nature to get annoyed when people are being arrogant, and you just kind of expect people to know at this point (unless they’re like, rank 1 and play like it) that those supers are considered awful. A lot of the lesser supers, like Yun’s other ones, are basically fine, but Stungun and Blue Nocturne are just stupid.

This thread just reminded me that I still lose to Alex stomp spam sometimes because I don’t know how to simulate it properly in training mode. You have no time to react when it happens online. :frowning:

I really think a lot of the “arrogance” and “trolling” that people are talking about is projection. I’m sure some of it is what they say it is, but I’m willing to bet that it’s more people using a setting where nothing’s on the line to enjoy the game and try new things.

Thanks for the help. I’m gonna have to test it out in training mode soon. I know an unblocked shoulder xx stun gun can be countered with EX SRK but it seems like a blocked shoulder stun gun can’t be avoided.

Ok, there are some legit stun gun set-ups but let’s not turn this into the twenty billionth “Is stun gun viable?” discussion.

I don’t know about Jin’s counter super (BBCP scrub right here) but in general I’d say counter supers are more viable in games that don’t have parry. Especially in a game where you don’t have to make the choice between having access to a counter super and having a super you can combo with like you do in 3rd.

This reminds me of the times people have got annoyed at me for beating them with Alex (Even when they know he’s my main) because he is considered awful. Deciding what’s good and what isn’t based on what’s ‘considered’ awful instead of deciding what’s awful from your own first hand experience is the reason that all of us would get bodied if we played almost any random Japanese Hugo player, and the reason why most of the world still thinks 3S is a Chun/Yun/Ken only game.

I also never cared about my opponent’s demeanour. Who cares if they’re arrogant? Either playing against them is going to give me value or it isn’t. The first time I met Kechu he actually laughed in my face and walked off when I introduced myself, but I still played him in 3S coz I wanted the experience against that sick Alex I’d only seen in youtube vids.

Kechu was the Urien minded Alex player.

Jab. Seriously, bro. Just s. jab, but don’t mash it. It’s that brief moment right before the headbutt actually grabs, you can jab him out of it.

You could EX SRK, but at the same time, why waste extra inputs? Jabbing him out of it means he just wasted his super and got put into a reset situation where Ryu has the advantage (Ryu will probably have meter at this point, Alex has none, and Ryu can freely pressure whereas Alex really has no escape options outside of a good read).

Will keep that in mind. I got hit by another block stun stun gun setup yesterday. I tried jabbing with Q but it didn’t work. Next time those Alex players are doneeee.

I don’t know that the jab works out of the blocked elbow set up. Unless you’re in the corner or he intentionally overshot the set up, you’re kind of forced to use the EX dp. Or was that Flash Chop? Anyway, if Alex is gonna grab with the finger tips, jab is no good, if he’s going to grab around the armpit area, jab is ideal. Q’s jab has to be the slap one, I believe, because the chest chop jab is too low, I think.

Everything will be cleared once I test this in training mode. Tried this yesterday but couldn’t cancel into super after shoulder tackle. Why is that timing so hard?

Is there actually a way to test this in training mode without having to juggle two controllers at once / getting someone to help you? So far as I can tell, you can’t set player 1 to block if you record.

I usually either jab, or simply dash under and end up behind alex. it’s always funny to see people’s reactions when you completely deflate their stun gun.

You can’t set player 1 to block while recording, but you can block during the replay.

So far, I’ve been able to jab out of every block setup I’ve come against, mid screen and corner.

Alex guarding against actually has to use s.strong instead, btw. Better option since his jab dramatically changes pending opponent range.

I know, what I’m saying is you can’t have player 1 blocking when you’re recording Alex to do dash elbow into SA3. If you just record him doing the elbow, having it hit, and then doing SA3, that’s useless because that isn’t the setup. If you block his elbow, he just won’t follow it up with anything. I’ve only been able to practice by using two controllers at once, and that is really cumbersome. It seems like the most braindead easy to get out of setup, but I want to make sure I have the timing right…

the timing for most cancels is practically the same whether it hits or is blocked. the record feature doesn’t know the difference. mute the speakers, close your eyes and do the damn combo. then block it when you’re controlling player 1. your complaint is valid for more complicated setups, but this one will be fine.

some bad online alexes will try to get tricky and do the jab one hoping to catch an attempted dash underneath. i dont get how these people’s minds work. like what if i just dont dash that time. then what?

With the recorded inputs, if an elbow cancels into stun gun on hit, it will also cancel on block. If that wasn’t the case, Alex would have an option selectable hit confirm, which 3s doesn’t have (outside of DED and the parry system). At least, I don’t think it has any option selectable hit confirms

Once again showing why he’s the only player that consistently does well on console.

Artayes is back and he ducks me

damn i need to make a comeback… .l.
