Hello, Me and a few friends have setup a forum dedicated to playing 3rd strike online (we have had webspace and a domain lying around for a while, so we thought what the hell, may as well give it a shot) we play via 2DF, we just recently switched from mame. So far we have about 20 Players. 12 of which have signed up for a tournament (hoping to get at least 24 for the tournament) we will be trying to set up next week (date still to be decided, but on the weekend for sure) and then we will implement a ladder system, which people will climb through tournaments.
we also have ventrilo which we are on for hours every day arranging matchs and generally just hanging out , the information for our ventrilo can be found on the forum index, since we only started advertising recently, our community at the moment is pretty small but we’re just trying to get the ball rolling in a sense.
Sorry if your board doesn’t allow this, but i thought it would be alright, considering we’re only appealing to the 3rd strike portion of your community.
Well, we already had about 18 players while we were playing on MAME, who were already up for the idea of our own forum, also we had web space and a domain going to waste.
most of our members have tried GGPO and prefer 2df, so i guess it’s really up to them.
GGPO has better latency hands down. But I do prefer 2DF since I feel GGPO is rather unstable right now, as expected by a beta. In the future GGPO will probably be great.
the only thing i see wrong with 2DF at the moment is - people can challenge you while you’re already in a game, which will close your current game and bring you to the challenge screen but i think it’ll be fixed quick. At the moment we have 25 3S players on the forum, so we will have at least 24+ for the tournament, feel free to sign up on the forums and make a post in the tournament thread saying you will be participating, then I’ll add you to the list ^^
No, that doesn’t happen actually. When you’re playing a game you get marked with a faded name; and the challenge button is faded.
The only time you’re taken out of a game is if you’re playing alone, in which your game closes because 2DF is a multiplayer client.
(Well, it didn’t do that last night anyway, if it’s started since then; oh wells)
But uh, you use the word community, do you really mean clan? (Just off the basis of saying you have X number of players and that you have your own forum and what not; that sounds more like a clan/guild than “community”)
Well, i was getting interrupted like hell earlier with that bug. Ummm no, i mean community, i’m always saying players because originally we already had a forum set up but not for 3rd strike, it was just there for us to play on the arcade, so then we had about 11 members registered just for the arcade, so i say X players to avoid any confusion when people see the forum statistics
I’m sure when you’re in multiple game rooms and you get challenged with a different game while playing one game, you get kicked out. So just leave all the other game rooms when you’re playing and you’re good.
Has GGPO got an update in the last little while? I have severe problems playing 3S on GGPO but it runs perfectly fine on 2DF. I’ve never been able to figure out why. It can’t be a processor or memory thing or they’d both play like shit rather than just one.
That is exactly the reason actually. The algorithm GGPO uses to hide input lag is CPU processing heavy. This is why some people even with dual/quad core computers can use ggpofba.exe to play perfectly offline, but the moment they try and do so online, it’s unplayable.
I really doubt it’s only a cpu processing issue. My previous computer (Athlon64 3000+ and 1.5g RAM) ran 3S on GGPO (online of course) as fine as my current (dual core E8400 + 2Go RAM). Better cpu really helps with mame but nothing really sensible with GGPO or any xFbaX version…
Hey Guys, our dedicated 3rd strike community is growing steadily! we just finished our first tournament, be sure to sign up for next weeks! we now have 50+ members.
Don’t bother with this lame community… I was part of it, and wasted my time recruiting more members than the admins, mustered 10+ people when they only had 6 participants for their tourny and got kicked/banned for defending my mate who has bad english and coulden’t join their crappy java run time IRC channel for the tournament
The admins will let you down and not turn up for tournaments with excuses like “i was puking up” or “i fell asleep” and shit on the ones that count… Don’t waste your time.
Also, it’s no exageration when I say the admins are the biggest Noobs on 2df…
