Mario - again I really don’t know. I don’t recall trying to get in anyone’s head in the 3S matches. If I was cheering for Gary it’s because I play with him all the time, he’s Ft. Wayne crew and he was sporting a cool white ATFO hat. Maybe Deadpool can chime in on this but all talking was just between me and him. I think I was announcing matches like it was a hockey game because Gary was our goaltender. :wgrin: I don’t recall holding myself in high esteem in 3S. I think I only told about 4 different people that I don’t bother playing the game anymore and that I would play in this tournament with characters still offer a tiny bit of fun like Yang/Elena/Alex/Akuma. You guys that keep trying to back your statements by saying how you are all playing for fun seem to be the ones not having any fun when you come on here and give me crap after the event is over. Tell me what the problem is at the tournament. I’m a nice guy, I’m not going to fight you over it. We can correct the problem right away at that moment.
I seem to be the one playing for all the fun around here. I travel to Indy to support the scene and play in ST of course with hopes of winning. Then I go and enter the free Fist tournament which I have never played before (and y’all left me out of the brackets so I still haven’t played it, thanks). I entered CvS2 knowing I wouldn’t win anything but I was doing it for the heck it of. That tourney just didn’t work out but that’s not your fault, not really anyone’s fault. I entered 3S knowing I won’t win anything and not even playing my best 2 characters anyway but whatever. I entered MvC2 knowing I wouldn’t win anything in that tournament either. Honestly that was probably the funnest tourney for me besides ST. Ghaleon, LearnSlow, hell even Joe I’m pretty sure know what I’m all about. I had a good time playing those guys and mostly losing.
Why is it that all these times I have played you guys in casuals in tournaments in the past (and yes I’ll say it, I’ve won) that we were always nice and just said gg’s or shook hands. Now that I don’t care about 3S anymore and yes I’m getting worse and you guys are all getting better, now that you guys are beating me suddenly it’s you guys (not me) that keep bringing it up like shit talk on the forums. Seems hypocritic to me. I thought Flexo was completely joking in that first post and I said he was just giving me the business. But I see he apparently wasn’t joking very much. And Mario I had been told by both my buddy Dave and by Indy that you were completely over whatever happened with us when I visited with Gary that last time but now after your last post again I don’t think you were completely over it. We were so nice to each other at this tournament. I was on my best behavior. What happened?
This is all I can say. Mario, Flexo, anyone else that I don’t know about that has something against me… I honestly don’t know why this happened twice now and if you guys don’t like me then fine, I can agree to stop coming to the Indianapolis tournament and the Champaign tournament. This isn’t even worth it to just have some of you get mad at me on the forums after the event is over. If I run into you guys at anything like SB3 I will just have to do my best to avoid any conversation or anything that will apparently make me seem like a mean-spiritied person.

I dont understand where any of this beef really came from. So Brent talks a little smack online, lots of players do. Hes just tossing shit and apparantly I guess it rubbed off the wrong way. If you think hes bad you havent seen bad yet. (I got physically threatened on here from someone who shall be unnamed after poking fun at their groups name before SB2).
Mario I know that when people are talking during matches is annoying but you gotta learn to play with that at tournys cause it will happen. At SB2 I played Jwong in Guilty (his first guilty tourny) and had Steve Harrison in my ear for the entire match. It wasnt fun but I discretely told him later that it wasnt appreciated and he understood. Its just an aspect of fighting games that has always been there and never loved haha.
Every tourny I have been too everyone has been a class act. No drama, no beef, just games and ggs.
Mario/Mike: you know I have your guys’ back but I got Brents back as well. We in the midwest gotta stick together and get better. Rivalry is one thing but talking mean trash is another. Brent has always been a cool fun guy to chat and play with. The trash he does talk is funny and light hearted more than anything and it doesnt bother me. I just take it with a grain of salt. Online talk can get interpreted the wrong way way to easily. If there really is beef I hope yall can work it out in person.

Wow-zers!!! lol Aight, I didn’t think it was gonna go this far. Brent, I’ll go ahead and just get this out on the table, so at least you know what’s going on – I think that’s only fair. From the first time that I played you at Season’s Beatings (?) all the way up to the tourney this past weekend, I’ve had to play you first round at EVERY, SINGLE tourney that we’ve both attended. Furthermore, you’ve beaten me every time that’s happened. Now, I don’t mind losing; if you take the right things from it, it can only help you. However, I play really, REALLY hard and put in a lot of practice during my off-time with a character that is tremendously difficult to use, while you play, well…Chun-Li. You can understand my frustration, then when I lose not only to you every time, but also to, well…Chun-Li lol. Don’t get me wrong, that’s not what really started my beef with you, though. Sure, it stings a little, but again it just inspires me to practice harder and harder so that I can beat you the next time. It’s mainly that stuff that you say here and there at the tourneys and on the forums that gets under my skin. To you, they’re innocuous comments that are just meant to be chummy, and normally that’s how I would take it. However, because of the fact that you’ve beaten me every time up to this point, I feel like you’ve been taking personal stabs at me and my playing ability. One of the things that got me really fired up was a while back when you commented on our “Urien get-together”. You started talking about just watching videos of you playing and that we should just not bother playing him against you. Again, something that would normally be taken with a grain of salt, but, like I said, after losing to you so many times I really thought you believed that or something. To make things EVEN worse, these comments were made at a time when I was trying to offer assistance to those that I thought needed it. It just felt like you were kicking a hurt animal. Granted, that was a while ago, and it’s not like I live in the past, but then it’s just the way that you sometimes talk at tourneys, and I don’t think you even realize you’re doing it. Sometimes you just sort of come across as, I dunno…condescending, saying things like, “So, are you ladies gonna play in this tourney?” and asking James (who has no beef at all, so I’m not dragging him into this lol) if he’s scared and things like that. Finally, in regard to what I posted the other day, I was just pokin’ you in the ribs a bit. But, when you responded and said the thing about giving me the stamp of approval for my “efforts” it felt like you were really saying, “Awwwww, how cute, Mike. Well, here’s a little, gold star for trying.” Now, if that’s not what you meant, then fine, but that’s what I extrapolated from the exchange. The fact is, Brent, I have no problem with you at all as a person. You really are a nice guy, and it’s always good seeing you. However, you honestly are the only Midwest guy I know of that talks gamer trash to his friends and cohorts. Like we’ve all been saying, we’re all friends even if it’s long distance, and I think we can be competitive without trash talk. Hell, James and I are HUGE rivals, but he’s also one of my closest friends. I would never talk down to or about him…EVER.

I will say straight up that from all the folks I played this weekend that you showed the most improvement. And I’m the first to admit I have decreased in that game. Honestly I feel like I understand now. I like the way you detailed it and I think I get it. And of course you are right on about me talking trash to friends & cohorts. Everyone is fair game. I will try my best to refrain from my usual talk of ladies/monkies/bozos and stuff like that.

…ok well this might not put me with good terms with some people, but here goes.
Brent has been one my best friends. I have known him for quite a long time at this point. I can also tell you that he has largely been unchanged for the entire time I’ve known him.
He is a shit talker, he can get under your skin at times. In fact, a lot of the Fort Wayne players of old are like that. (Don’t get me started with Abe when he gets drunk lol) I used to get annoyed by that shit too at times.
But you know what, after a while you just get used to it, and then it happens…

Nobody means it. In fact, I think it’s tame compared to what I’ve seen in the video game community. (I quit DDR years ago over this very same issue albeit much more flared up). Now I’ve been watching this “flame war” go on for quite awhile keeping my mouth shut about the subject cuz I’m not trying to get dragged into drama that doesn’t concern me. But come on man…now you guys are draggin my dude through the trenches off of what I have to say are pretty tame comments. All I’ve got to say is that there’s a lot of passive aggression action going on and it needs to stop.
