I’ve been trying to do the trials for characters, just to learn some combos however the same problem has been turning up for several characters.
I was trying to do Elena’s Combo 2 trial, cancelling a crouching strong into a medium kick shoryuken. Every time i try and do the shoryuken the super comes out instead. Ive tried this with other characters and if the super has the same button as the shoryuken (punch or kick) the super comes out every time i try and cancel into a shoryuken. I’ve watched videos of people doing the trials, and as far as i can tell i’m doing the same thing, but i still can’t get it to work. Does anyone have an idea what i’m doing wrong?
You need to clean up your inputs a bit.
I imagine your problem is that when you’re trying to do the cancel, you go from down (cr. strong) to forward for the first input for the SRK, and do a QCF by accident. Then as you complete the SRK motion you overshoot and hit forward again, doing another QCF which gives you a super.
This is actually a pretty common occurrence and it happens with experienced players too, so don’t worry too much about it. But what can we do to fix this?
First of all, you can buffer the first input of the Scratch Wheel by holding forward, then hitting down+MP, then finally df+MK (you can even overshoot and hit f+MK and it will still work). There’s no way for you to get a super with this method as you can’t accidentally input 2 QCFs.
In general, to avoid this sort of problem you should focus on hitting down-forward and your button when doing SRKs. If you’re playing on stick, slam the lever right into the corner of your square gate (especially if you’re ending your combo and don’t need to worry about moving your stick for the next second or so). This will prevent any additional inputs that might mess you up.
Hope that helps.
Most of the combos in 3SOE trials are useless. Not worth learning. Watching Japanese footage and copying what they do is probably a better investment of your time.
