Just to be clear, I don’t hate SF4. I like and enjoy it. The aspects the OP mentions, though, I dislike. I think that is what most people are also saying
SF4 deserves about a 7.0-7.5/10, which to me is solid. Though I think the engine is A-S-S and gives priority to some of the dumbest crap in the game, it also encourages bad habits. Try mashing in 3S, for example: it doesn’t work.
I like to hit punch buttons and watch my guy spin. Therefore, SF4 is the best.
3s offers anyone to be both offensive an defensive (literally) at the same time. When you parry, you actually do both. (think of it as a counter) The game makes almost any character playable, and also make them seem unstoppable, depending on how good the player actually is. We have all seen Kuroda videos right? Either way I think 3s is just a superior game because the game truly shines on skill and not character.
Wow, extremely well put guys, I couldn’t agree more. I relate to this hardcore. Is it cool if I sig these quotes?
^ lol, why do you keep editing your posts? Now I have to edit mine because it makes no sense. Oh well…
I keep trying to parry things in IV… I still don’t like the Focus Attack. I never use it. I also hate that animation when near an opponents Focus Attack and I’m clearly dashing back, but nothing happens. I’m stuck there in blocking animation while this guy is charging his FA. Proximity blocking is the term right? Why can’t one just have the option to walk back AWAY from FA’s if you’re near it?
I like both games though, but 3S it’s much more fun.
You’re trying too hard. Just stop.
Stop editing your posts.
3S or any other game is not an extension of yourself. There are just games which you enjoy and games you don’t. Liking or relating to a character’s design is one thing, but if you truly believe that you are Neo from the Matrix (LIKE YOU POSTED BEFORE EDITING IT OUT) then you may have serious problems.
I was joking, and I edited because I didn’t want to directly call you out, because you are a troll.
I said, this is an exact quote what I said before the edit:
Just because you yourself don’t feel that way doesn’t give you the right to shit on other peoples opinions. Not only do I agree, I’ll take it a step further. When I play 3rd Strike I’m like Neo from the matrix and Luke Skywalker using the force on mother fuckers at the same time. You got a problem with that?
So clearly yes I am insinuating that I have a mental disorder and believe myself to be Neo from the matrix, good job pointing that out to people.
People are saying that one game sucks because it doesn’t take over their brains and I’m the troll? Awesome.
AND FFS STOP EDITING YOUR POSTS.
Anyway, GGS. This thread is worthless.
What I can’t figure out is why even though 3S is dominated by the tip top tier, like current AE, I still have way more fun with it.
I will say, though, that when I lose in 3S it feels like more of a legitimate loss than in SF:IV. With the parry system you always have a chance to come back if you keep your wits about you.

Actually, calling you a troll would be a compliment, because trolls are sometimes self aware, purposely getting a rise out of people for entertainment purposes.
You on the other hand just come across as more of a soulless, douchebag type whose posts add nothing worthwile to the discussion. Goodbye, bad games, you won’t be missed!
Because all the characters are equipped well, just bad compared to others, unlike SF4 where’s everything is so tame and “fair” >:/
Also, this topic is proving why these topics are discouraged and get locked.
What about all the fucktards who are trying to play 3s like its fucking sf4. The match starts and this fuck immediately holds down back. I’m like “congrats you dumbshit, you’re now my punching bag.” Beat on somebody a bit, then hold off and watch the mashed srk come out. My fave is also these clowns who think air tatsus will give them air superiority. How about the idiots who knock you down, then think they’re gonna srk you as you wake up. Naturally they rage when you parry that bullshit. Half of these kids are playing as if waiting for the game to award them the victory. “hey i’m using ryu/ken, that means I win right?” The fuck outta here.
This is a shit flame bait topic. I’m glad I posted.
Third Strike and Super Turbo are the two best fighting games ever made. Third Strike for it’s advanced and highly technical fighting game engine. Super Turbo for it’s speed and classic feel.
It may be too extreme to say SFIV sucks. I use to think that but it’s a solid game. It’s still Street Fighter. I mean there are a lot of stupid stuff in it that annoy me. Particularly the turtling and the fact that you can spam 3-5 jabs and cancel a special and that counts as a combo, but it’s a game that established a rebirth for fighting games. I see it as a gateway so that it can expose more people to the other classics. Because of Street Fighter IV we may be able to play fighting games forever.
Why are you posting, even after you admitted that you experience muscle memory? Just because people are more honest about what the consequences are of muscle memory doesn’t make them crazy. Why are you still over-reacting to the same idea with different wording? A rose by any other name…
And I’m actually flattered to be quoted
I think the largest disparity between 3s and SF4 (aside from depth, and I’m sure we could argue countless hours about this, but I guarantee 3s will win every time) is the seeming lack of individuality among players and play styles. What keeps me constantly entertained by 3s is the variety you’ll encounter from player to player. Take J.R. Rodriguez for example, he has an extremely aggressive Akuma, and he is well known for his demon set-ups. That’s his own approach, and he’s clearly made it work. Granted Akuma is an aggressive, mix-up based character, but he can certainly be played as a more methodical/footsie character, and some players do just as well using that approach.
I feel like SF4’s system isn’t “open” enough. The majority of the cast feels concrete in their play-style, and the game centers mainly around match-up knowledge. Outside of Poongko and some of the better C.Viper players (probably the 2 heaviest mix up characters in the game), I don’t see a whole lot of individual style applied. The game boils down to very specific options in certain situations, and offers little to no wiggle room otherwise. Just like Deviljin said, the wake up game is all about hard knockdown, safe jump OS set ups. It adds one element, but takes away so many others, and it’s very robotic. Regardless, if you can find something to appreciate and enjoy about SF4, far be it from me to stop you from playing it, but it’s not my personal cup of tea.
The best analogy I’ve heard for comparing the two goes something like: 3rd Strike is like fighting game jazz, it lets the players express themselves and no two renditions of the same song (or match) will ever sound (or look) the same. SF4 is more like classical music, it must be performed note for note, exactly how it is written on the page, and the best players are able to perform flawlessly, every single time.
