Don’t you agree that it would be better than Fightcade though? Sure, OE is far from a perfect port, but it’s also better than the ridiculous speed that FBA runs Third Strike. Hell, even if Fightcade got updated to use ShmupMAME or GroovyMAME, they’d have to find a way to enforce the speed decrease that you can set on the options menu, since even those emulators run the game fast.
I also don’t understand why you say “when you consider most people aren’t using CRTs on their computer it would be even worse”. Of course CRTs reduce input lag, so any 3S player who would want the best performance from their game would use one. But you’re talking about “most people”, so I get the feeling that you think that it somehow affects both players…? Eh. It’s not like it’s ever going to happen anyway.
There was a bug pretty early where a host would be lost in the wind, and never matchup with anybody. That was the ufcgym fix if there ever was one, intentional or not. Something to do with that rare occurrence onscreen message of “Failed to host game” and sent back to the main menu that still happens.
That was considered “fixed” somewhere along the line since it seemed like the community was small and nobody was out there to play, but it was just a major bug reported by them directly.
Matching up with “Same Skilled” opponents was added with the extra matchmaking options like ping under a threshold # you set, but perhaps unlike any other game that had that feature, after a set amount of time you’re sent into matching with anybody and it ignores what you asked for and setup. Why they would keep that under wraps, how long that period is, was unhelpful too. It does the same thing for ping of course. So basically another menu down there that isn’t implemented well and you will probably never see twice since it doesn’t really work.
biggiesmlllz fix was removing all the banked saved replays in a clean wipe, but everybody else kinda suffered for his sins.
what I mean is it’s much easier to run 3SOE for console on CRT. but I think few people use CRTs on their computer. so more people would be playing on a laggy monitor comparatively.
the good things about OE are that it’s close enough to arcade speed, has no additional input lag compared to arcade, and has a good training mode. none of those things are improved by porting to PC, and in a lot of situations it would just make them worse. and if you’re willing to accept the negatives that come with PC 3s, then in that I’d rather play one of the emulated versions since at least that looks and sounds like arcade.
to me putting OE on PC seems like “let’s take two different ways to play the game, take the worst parts of both, and mash them together.” just doesn’t sound great to me.
I agree with this. Just thinking about Input Display and Hitboxes being in the fucking game for once would be awesome. I think if it were ported (and I don’t think IG would do it because they’re working on KI and most likely the eventual PC port of KI will be handled by another company) there’s a good chance that the ranked modes, the online, and the speed of the game can be fixed. It’s a possibility anyway.
Is there a reason why there’s monitor input lag specifically for 3SOE and it’s best played on a CRT? I’m just saying, this is an issue that could be fixed just like how playing the game without filters somehow adds 1-2 extra frames of input delay.
yeah all versions of 3s will lag with an LCD. CRT is ideal for the game. even the Evo monitor (ASUS whatever it is) lags like 1f and it felt like shit at Evo side tourney.
the reason I say lag situation is worse on PC is because of the video/audio/input buffers on Windows or any modern OS. byuu (the creator of the most accurate SNES emulator) has discussed why it’s impossible for emulators to achieve same latency as original hardware but his forums have crashed since then so I don’t know if the explanations are still around.
I’m not saying that PC 3SOE will be a tournament standard. It’s not going to happen for a long time. But, I do think there’s the possibility of having it on PC with improved online (either by further improved netcode, or just there a far lower number of dudes on wireless) and open to being modded would be worth porting it out.
XBLA/PSN are not going to have their servers open forever. I’d expect the servers to get shut down in a year or two. Whereas on PC it would connect through Steam’s servers (If not Steam’s, a Capcom-owned server) and it would get more people playing each other.
From what I understand, all fighting games run peer-to-peer connection and matches do not connect via servers. This is the reason why games such as MvC2 can still hold lobbies despite Capcom withdrawing any support. So as far as anyone with 3SOE is concerned, you can still play matches online as long as other people are willing to play as well and PSN/XBL are still running
Got to play some CPS3 3S at MAGfest this weekend. I guess nobody great was there, and if they were I missed them. Last year I think I lost every match I played, but this year nobody seemed unbeatable. It’s probably a boon that all the buttons were working properly this time, though the stick on P1 side was a little odd. I went on a totally undeserved 16 win streak at one point, of which I probably won half of my matches by panic wakeup corkscrew blow. I feel like I’m not usually THAT bad about it, but I was still adjusting to the timing of things, and thusly had more reason than usual to panic. There were a few players who were really good at baiting that, but they weren’t around the whole time.
Couldn’t do ANY SA2 combos with Makoto, so I was useless with her. Going to need to sit down and figure the timing of each part of that out if I ever had the chance to play CPS3 with any regularity. Most of the other random Makoto’s I fought seemed to be having the same issue. A lot of karakusa > stand there like an idiot.
Oh yeah, I’m pretty sure I played you, but I can’t recall any specifics. I was the white guy with the purple hooded sweatshirt and (some of the time) a backpack. Played the cream Dudley, and messed around with Makoto, Necro, and Oro a little. I feel like I played your Q with my Necro at one point and didn’t lose TOO badly, but there were a few people there using that Q color so I dunno.
@isotopez
How did you get the numbers in your Google doc?
I compared shoulder carry combo (on Ken) using fba and oe
FBA
65
11 cr mp to kill
OE
74
10 cr mp to kill
I can’t do 123>genei>mp>hp>shoulder>dash punch>Palm>dash punch>Palm>hp > mp shoulder > dakai > dash punch on keyboard yet so I can’t compare that one still.
just curious cause my numbers seem different than yours. The damage points was taken using that japanese lua script. Either way same as you Arcade did less
I did 123 > activate > mp > shoulder x7 > dakai > dash punch. Though, I just tried doing 123 > activate > mp > hp into shoulders and got 74 on oe, so I assume that’s the difference.
I wasn’t sure what the ender was for that other combo, so I did 123 > genei > mp > hp > shoulder > dash punch > Palm > dash punch > hop kick > palm > dragon kicks > shoulder > dakai > dash punch, which did:
OE:
79 damage
14 mp to get ex
FBA:
56 damage
14 mp to get ex
I just tried the combo you listed (although I added another shoulder after the palm > hp)
