Thanks for the encouragement guys, it means a lot. Hopefully one day I can go over to America and give you guys a bit more experience with the Chun matchup >:)
How would you rank Amir’s Chun?
I just heard about this now: This is 3rd Strike is organising the second 3rd Strike Fight Club event, to be held at Next Level Arcade in New York. It’ll be held on the 28th of February, a week after Gutter Trash 4, and Nica KO has said he’s trying to sort out the stream. If the stream does happen, it’ll be pretty cool to be able to compare European and US (mainly East Coast) play within such a short span of time. There’s a venue fee of $10 and a 3v3 event that is $15 for entry.
There’s also an interesting thing called the New Blood Battle Royal:
"The rules are simple. 2 players start. 1 game. Winner stays. Last man standing wins the pot. Playing order will be drawn at random. $3 gets you in. Due to time constraints, we’re capping this at 12 players… One last thing: Due to his familiarity with all things 3S, Nica KO will make the final determination as to whether or not you qualify to play in the Battle Royal (making sure no high level players enter)."
Currently you there’s only 2 sign-ups on the Facebook page, so if you’re kind of low-level (or know someone who is), try going for it. This is the part where you tag people to troll them.
Here’s the Facebook event page if you want to sign up (along with a couple more details): https://www.facebook.com/events/607011772761154/
And finally, here’s a fantastic trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7xWlAtXMGg
Oh shit.
Good season for 3S seems.
(Is there footage from Fight Club 1?)
Chump or not
Its gonna be the largest 3s tournament in the EC since 25th anniversary. Suggest you guys try to make it too.
Val and Dyne have the most congo dudleys on fightcade, just sayin. They are my best friends.
So finally got to play 3s in Japan today for the first time in my life.
At first a couple of games at the Hey arcade in Akihabara, the setup wasn’t good though (leva was trolling me then found out that the lever was really bad)
In the past months I played seldomly and only on lcd setups (didn’t have better options) so the impact with cps3 timing after lots of time coupled with still some jet lag and such was pretty rpugh. Took several games to start getting used to it. But was well worth it.
then went to Mikado… and found Roshihikari. Played his Yang like 16 times and lost all of them. I still have a loong way to go, but it was fun nonetheless… and I felt I was learning, adjusting and getting a tiny bit better as the set went on. I actually won lots of rounds… but you have to win two so it means nothing. It was truly a magnificent experience.
I’ll come back in the next days for sure.
Shout outs and GGs to Nate and Pherai too!!
3rd Strike is the best game, period.
HEY is an awesome arcade, just not for 3S. Or really any fighting game that isn’t from the last few years. Their VS has some weird issue where EX and Super moves just won’t come out. I was told it had something to do with the machine not getting enough power? I dunno. Point is…they have like 95% of all shmups ever made, and a decent-but-not-fantastic-for-Tokyo everything else. The music game section is unbelievably loud though.
Jealous
of all you guys geting to Japan.
Fugo, any tournaments you can enter while you’re there? (since you missed Coop Cup, like you said)
I’ll try to enter something for sure!!
I saw that Roshihikari tweeted this:
ミカドに着いたらイタリア人ユリアン使いとずっと対戦してた!
なんだこのレアイベントw
I can read only katakana so I know he’s talking about me but the google translation is not clear! What did he say?
When he got to mikado there was an Italian urien player who he played over and over. What is this rare event? (What a rare event)
Is pretty much what he said.

The stream will definitely happen, we’re still ironing out the kinks with the audio, etc but with a few more tests we’ll be set to go
We shouldn’t really be comparing anything btw, with all the hype with Coop Cup we wanted to start the year off well for 3s so we’re trying to expand this Fight Club idea around the EC. We’ll be doing our best to promote other streams like BoilerRoom Generals on the WC, UFO matches in Texas and especially Gutter Trash overseas when the time comes and we believe it’ll be a big help for everyone. For now we’re trying to introduce newer players with the “beginner” event, all while trying to showcase hype matches for EC players (or at least grudge matches). But anyways that’s the plan we have for this event. Getting a supergun and 3s cartridge/CD is in the cards too (so we can bring arcade 3s to majors) but that’s sometime later this year, hopefully we can cause some waves in the U.S in the ocean of shitty games lol
We’re using “This is 3rd Strike” on facebook to promote streams, matches, etc on facebook so if anyone has any other links to 3s streams preferably arcade or big tournaments, you can send us a msg on there and we’ll help support it.
What is the point in using Chun’s cr.MP? It seems like it serves the same purpose as cr.MK but worse, anybody care to enlighten me?
Further reaching cr mk. Downside, can’t be cancelled.
It’s for punching cats.
Places I think it’s useful:
Chun mirror where it beats low forward reliably
vs shotos when they are hovering just outside low forward range
vs Urien jump in roundhouse (it’ll whiff over her head)
I think the first one is the big one though.
It’s crazy how a random night at Mikado can be so challenging lol, my old self would have felt crushed in spirit, I’m glad I currently just think on what could I have done better when I lose… so even if I lose tokens at least I get a tiny bit of experience back. I wish I could stay here way longer, I think I could get a lot better if I could stay here like two months… but I’ll get and enjoy any minute of this journey - which I’m also dedicating to sightseeing, so hard to split the little time I have here between 3s and other things I was looking forward to.
And I’m glad to meet in person people who write here after years, as well as famous Japanese players.
Drunk Pherai is Best Pherai! And finally I got to meet Ryan too. Cool guys!! It’s nice to know you in person!
I might add that this is my first time outside Europe… though I’m loving everything so far, many things feel so alien and new to me that I’m feeling a bit disoriented/overwhelmed lol, to the point that I’m feeling shy which I’m usually not

I think this too, it goes under a lot of things.
Whoa, the 3s freeplay night at Game-Newton was my best 3s night ever. Just soo good. And I finally started playing good, still have a long way to go but I was playing a LOT better than the previous days.
The turning point was perhaps the ~1h session I had with Yohei at the beginning. He played multiple characters in a way that made me realize my mistakes and improve game by game. I won a nice amount of games, mostly vs secondary characters but still that felt good considering he won today’s tournament. Cool guy, and English speaking which is a plus for me
I realized that I was getting results more or less in some matchups, but in others I found myself really clueless.
Playing vs Tominaga is super scary, but fun too. At least I never fell for his uncomboed SA2 attempts lol.
The really thraumatic opppnent to me was Kuni though, and it wasn’t about matchup knowledge. The way he just disrupted my flow never ever happened to me vs anyone else. Maybe he’s my natural counter-player, I dunno. It felt like he was reading my mind.
What’s weird is that then I saw him losing repeatedly to Raoh, while in the couple of games I had vs Raoh I actually felt I could compete, in the second one I could have won actually… it was round three and I was juggling him but the last shoulder which would have granted me victory hit like 3 frames after the time out thus didn’t register the damage. Lol.
